  1. Ah another one. I thought that you had forgotten me. Strange way of flirting though....
  2. Ahh I've missed you, but rather disappointing trolling, I had expected better. Sorry I've slipped below your bar. I'll try harder. Although good to see that you took the bait.
  3. Also mocking others! (in a humorous way)
  4. Keep up, I've posted that sentiment already but also discussed my experience with noisy parties, noise annoyance and local authority action, ie trying to keep a balance. I was witty, interesting and looking at both sides to the argument. Even slipped a typo in but my two trolls seem to have gone on holiday.
  5. Went to the ballet last night for this first time. Even at the ballet about a third of the audience sat down and immediately looked at their phone, and some spent all their time on this before the performance started, and during the interval. Thankfully nothing went off during the performance and nobody took pictures or videos By chance this popped up in my e-mail today https://www.eventbrite.com/rally/london/mobile-phones-at-gigs/?utm_source=newsletter_london&utm_medium=em&utm_campaign=cnl_l_0301191&utm_source=Various+Marketing&utm_campaign=ceadbcf0e3-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2019_01_03_11_02&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_4076db5ea9-ceadbcf0e3-61674901 My regular readers will know how much I get peed off by those of you who post links with no context. Anyway this article gives for and against restricting mobile use at gigs. Fors include audience attachment to the gig and the chance to chat afterwards on social media and to share the experience. Me? It gets on my proverbials and even more annoyed when people are live whatsapping their experience. But I am stuck in my own time warp. Over to you.

In deed getting off thread but to introduce some balance the concept of the ULEZ was introduced by Boris, with the intention of tightening it/extending it in future. Poor Sadiq must have struggled - damn that was a good idea of Boris, what can I do to diss it? Ah, I'll say it is not ambitious enough and bring it forward. Why a Tory Mayor came up with such an interventionist anti-car policy, that alienated some of his key supporters particularly those in the outer boroughs, in an interesting question. We could also look to some of our 'friends' in Europe who have much more progressive environmental policies but also worryingly seeing the populist backlash for a President who dares to put up fuel duty. Of course it is not just fuel duty that they are protesting about, but a good sign of how we may dilute action to tackle climate change once we have returned to narrow minded little England at the end of March. Although it was our own courts not Brussels that ordered us to clean up our air.
  7. Bass not base (whoops). Just knock on the door of the house party and say John invited you. Haven't done that for some time and I don't think it was successful. I also remember seeing some students in a pub and clocking their invite. I was a lot younger then and would be arrested if I tried this today. Young and not so young people seem to have this pocket computer device which says where their mates and anyone they have ever met are.
  8. When we lived in Sydenham there were two particular parties of note. Firstly the next door neighbours flat handed us a note about a party. I read the short note inside out, upside down, back to front but couldn't manage to see the invite to us. We came home from the pub and couldn't hear any noise so were relieved that we hadn't wasted time going to what must have been a dreadful bash. Another time downstairs asked us to a flat party. We got there with no guests and fairly quiet music. We were a bit bemused but told that nobody arrived until after the sound system came. After which the whole street was rocking, and buildings vibrating to the base. All comes across as a bit net curtain twitching to me. And as for the six clock motorbike. Have YOU never had a party that was a bit loud, went on a bit late and got a few complaints. Now if it went on all the time get the council involved, noise pollution etc. Not sure how Southwark handles thing but I had a notice served on me for a bally temperamental burglar alarm (story is a bit more complex as the tenants used to take the battery out so it wouldn't automatically go off after 20 minutes) and continue until the second battery in the bell box would go dead. And don't get me started on car alarms bloke over the road (now long since moved out). Sorry folks I have now joined in.
  9. Some PMs on the subject when I posted after getting my bike stolen and putting the number up from Gumtree on this Forum. Abridged extracts below, given no personal details away bar that they had had bikes stolen by the same person. Hi there, I had a bike stolen and sold on Gumtree by the same people that you reported. I would like to catch these people, have reported it to the Met ........ Hi Your message came up through my detective work. I too have had my bike stolen - just a couple of days ago. I immediately started looking on gumtree and found 2 prospective thieves. One I called - see his advert below. I called him - he swore at me, told me the bike had been sold and put the phone down. I then put his number into a google search and as well as finding loads of other adverts for bike sales, I found this thread. ..... All a few years ago, and probably not of interest to most. But FFS why Gumtree, the police, or some higher being couldn't do anything about it. OK calm now.
  10. It felt pretty low priority to the bizzies even though it was clearly theft. I feel that e-bay has much better control of their sellers whereas Gumtree does not appear to need proper ID.

Before his untimely death and his starring role with comedy duo Badiel and Skinner, Jeff Astle was one of the leading scorers in the old Division 1 (golden boot in 1970). He asked a referee once what would happen if he called him a 'b'. "why I'd send you off Mr Astle". What would happen if I thought you were a 'b'? "Well Mr Astle you can think whatever you like". "I think you a 'b', referee". Got to laugh or else you will cry. Others can 'try' Corbyn.
  12. Rendel - I assume that you knew straight away that these are crims. One of my earliest threads was about a stolen bike that appeared on Gumtree that same evening, having used bolt croppers on a decent chain. The ad was taken straight from the website - no personal info on use, or reason for sale. Names are changed (but the phone number remains the same) and it is never 'their' bike, but a mates. Sadly even though it was clearly my bike, the police didn't follow up. A Met police Cycle Task Force was set up by TfL to help tackle cycle theft, but not seen any activity recently. I put the phone number of 'thief' on the thread and got two PMs from people outside our area who had the same problem. Now you have got me started.
  13. Should she stay or should she go Should we stay or should we go
  14. Found wireless doorbells a pain in the neck, always needing to change batteries or in newer versions recharging them. Given up and resorted to a hard knock on the door. Battery life was a frequent criticim in on-line reviews
  15. Hopefully this will provoke some debate. Looks like footy fan and all round 'nice guy' Tommy has a close association with DHFC. Not the 'right on' Dulwich Hamlet with close associations with more left wing causes, and links with like minded teams across the channel, but the conservative American organisation (I stop short of think tank). Interestingly not only the Grauniad picked up on this (who should have also noted the potential confusion on their own backyard) but the Mail. Anyway TR and his pro Brexit lot marching today, an irrelevance and distraction or sign of things to come? And Momentum marching with those against leaving the EU. Confused or what.

Oh relating to the problems in delivering a rushed deal could be compared big alliances/federations breaking up quickly in 89 - 91 with mixed results. The China stuff was just a pop at TM for all the strong and stable stuff. There has been a risk in right wing nationalism in many of the former Soviet States/Iron Curtain and it feels that we are risking going the same way here. Also worried that a populist and confrontational agenda in France is having results. Although I would argue that a left wing anarcho bit of direct action (poll tax riots) was of course justifiable. Might be all total bollox and happy to be shot down, either in a five minute debate or the whole half hour. Not sure if there are parallels with the arab spring and other interventions with no end game.
  18. Pete Shelley, very sad, saw him both solo (Ten Summers' Festival) and with the Buzzcocks.

Wow look at this this must change everything. For those who like some original thought. The great iron curtain collapsed in months as did the Soviet Union a couple of years later. They didn't take long to sort out new treaties, trade deals etc and look where that left us in terms of world peace and a move away from right wing nationalism (think Slovakia, Belorus, the former East Germany) and wealth distribution. Although if we want strong and stable (and economically successful) think China. Happy to hear some counter arguments, although I am sure that there is relevant article on Twitter.
  20. Somebody has been sitting on a reasonably sized house for a number of years, with a half assed attempt to renovate. It's not to a high standard so doesn't look like a good investment. It's not in an areas where national and international criminals buy property to launder money. It has probably depreciated. They need to spend money heating it or it will become damp. I expect that there is a premium on the Council Tax. Lewisham (this side of the tracks) doesn't have an empty house problem and main focus is making sure social housing is not empty and taking action when private properties are becoming derelict. But the owner has a right to leave it empty and there is no longer a right to squat. Just strange.

Ideal sketch material TM: This deal honours the result of the referendum Me: The referendum shows that the public were split, and it was not clear exactly what what was being voted on TM: No it didn?t Me: yet it did TM: no it didn?t, the British Public clearly voted to leave the European union Me: The referendum showed that the public were split between those that wanted to stay and those that want?t to leave TM: no it didn?t Me: yes it did TM: no it didn?t Me: This is not a debate, a debate involves a series of statements intended to establish a proposition TM: no it doesn?t Me: You are just taking up a contradictory position TM: No I am not Me: a debate is an intellectual process. Contradiction is just the automatic gainsaying of any statement the other person makes. TM: no it isn?t (warning anyone under 40 will be lost on this post)
  22. Actually there was a serious point to my post that someone has been sitting on an empty house for years whilst there are those out there without a roof over their head. When I moved to the SE there was the remnants of an earlier squatting scene. The BBC 'street' programmme on Camberwell Grove looked back on that too, at a time when Camberwell was on a slippery slope - perhaps the squatters even helped on preventing demolition of the Georgian terraces. I was sadly never 'cool' enough to squat. This bloke was far cooler. https://www.huffingtonpost.co.uk/jason-holmes/the-world-according-to-jah-wobble_b_5654351.html
  23. Something to take you away from Brexit, although perhaps with the economic decline this may well be related. A place near us has been empty for years. Signs of renovation but never finished. Never any signs of occupation. Fiscal measures such as increased Council Tax for empty properties don't seem to have any effect. Hardly sitting on a goldmine with prices set to plummet and not the best option to launder money. Ideal squat if anyone needs some rent-free accommodation, plenty of space for artistic pursuits, anarchic activities and generally talking us back to the time of Thatcher. Ad will be placed shortly on this web site. Boooooh https://www.gov.uk/squatting-law

    Bullying case

It doesn't help that you focus on a single incident and also use pejorative and self-righteous terms like lowlife scum, where you lose the moral high ground. Happy slapping (what horid term) has been around since the rise of social media and isn't limited to right winge bigoted racists. There is also the big picture of why does society encourage sharing real physical and mental harm as a form of entertainment and that includes the videos of us doing tricks and falling flat on our face (ho ho ho Harry Hill). That said, before you get on your high horses, the general point about the rise of populism, racism, bigotry etc really worries me. Just be careful in your use of language as holier-than-though posts may not necessarily help the cause.
