Interesting article https://www.transporttimes.co.uk/news.php/TfL-is-planning-significant-cuts-in-bus-services-and-now-acknowledges-cycling-as-a-cause-of-London-ridership-decline-333/?utm_source=Transport+Times&utm_campaign=b55a7b8dc8-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2018_01_17_COPY_01&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_c0cafa3f39-b55a7b8dc8-250793593 Puts the blame on slow speeds, and move to cycling and Uber.

Had a couple of Gortexs in the past but not that impressed for the money. My Altura night vision has long since been waterproof and now ripped so not worth reproofing. Cut is nice. But looks like a commuting jacket when I occasionally venture out at weekends. And can be too warm too. What do you recommend?

You could also try the left field route of Tower Bridge Angel A1, joining at junction 2, avoiding this when Arsenal are at home and risking chaos at Old Street. Glad i no longer have to regularly do the M1. Most extreme was when I was in Yorkshire once and rightly advised to come back via Cambridge, M11 and Blackwall tunnel. I've heard of some who go South and via a half loop on the M25. Finally for some reason I also have done M1 to A40 on the North Circ but can't remember why I did this route. I imagine Google on the day will give the ideal route.

On a weekend Lambeth Bridge, Horseferry Road, Buck Pal (shut on a Sunday), then after Marble Arch right at Oxford Street and left, eventually onto Lisson Grove, Abbey Road and up through West Hampstead, joining the Finchley Road. Did that route for years, but on the return the Finchley Road seemed to be better and would head right after Swiss Cottage, to get back onto Lisson Grove. On the odd occasion driving during congestion charge simply followed the main drag and Edgeware Road (bit too many lights)as per Rendel. Even with CC in the week Lambeth Bridge a nightmare and for some reason has got much worse.

Great article thanks. You could do it another day and get totally different results. Beer range can sometimes be great, and other times the dregs. But change from a fiver for three pints and many don't realise that you are only supposed to use the 50p tokens for one round, not every drink. It kicked off at the Capitol years ago when they used to show football, and I've had a few dodgy experiences at the Fox including some lousy service. But other times perfectly fine. And the Capitol has custom from a massively wide demographic unlike many of the trendy new bars. I avoided the Spoons like the plague many years ago, but maybe the low prices just wore me down. And agree that the owner is a complete rrrss and sadly even publicises his antics through his chain. Go to the Capitol on open house and have a tour. Well worth it, such a lovely building and would make a lovely cinema.....

Without getting into discussion about the success of the Beer Dispensary is this a good sign that the Grove Tavern could be made to work? Please to direct me to any other relevant thread. The Harvester was not my cup of tea, but seemed to be popular enough and I had the odd drink in the garden.

Rye Lane closed Jan 2019 to Apr 2020

One of my favourite subjects. With all the current road works, the large amount of parking on double yellows (no enforcement) amd deliveries during normal day time will we notice? a favourite gripe of mine. -
Extension to ultra-low emission zone to north/south circulars
malumbu replied to edanna's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Michael Gove wants to outdo Johnny Foreigner by having even better environmental standards. Probably not very favourable to his Brexiteer colleagues who want British business to have the right to cut costs on environmental protection, workforce costs and protections etc. Our own Supreme Court has ordered us to sort out air quality. Brussels is very slow on imposing fines, so we will probably have rejoined by the time they get their act together. -

Motorists have their part to play. I do, you can too. Unnecessary journeys. Overweight and over powered cars. Low occupancy (a car designed for four or five will usually only have one or two in it). Sitting on the side of the road idling. Racing up to the humps, banging the brakes on, foot to the ground until the next. And that is just the police! Private motorists even worse. We are failing to meet our carbon targets. We are failing to meet air quality standards. The market it failing too ? manufacturers maximise profits and sell vehicles accordingly as part of a lifestyle ? SUV anyone? Too easy to blame governments when we have a role. That said motorists are allowed to drive how we want, when we want, what we want and where we want and our elected representatives should act. Yet after the 2000 fuel protests (unholy alliance of farmers and hauliers), the main political parties see this as a vote loser. Forget Brexit, a political consensus on the environment is far more valuable. The ULEZ at least is a start. Joined-up congestion management, and a holistic view to mobility, at a local authority level would be great too. Over to you James -

Wow, my brother in law and his mates from Tamworth are now posting on this site. I've accused him of hate crimes, but give him his due he doesn't like browns, blacks and Eastern Europeans (and snowflakes) so he is an equal opportunity racist. Can't wait for him and his clan to get Irish Passports being second and third generation. Tamworth is full of Brummies who had to leave due to Sharia Law - they are quite happy to tell me that. Fortunately most Brummies of any colour and background are nice tolerant people as you get in most cities. And thanks for giving me the opportunity to have a go at him.

They work 9-5 trolling to undermine democracy in the Ukraine and any desire to join the EU. As well as logging on and off in office hours, they also take off public holidays. That is not anecdotal that is from official sources. Sounds like a good job, perhaps a number of our trolls here could apply to the GRU. Slightly more sophisticated than this: https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/blogs-trending-41915295 Ironic that the UK is leaving the EU but believes it a good thing for the Ukraine.

Sorry out of exile again. Great comment on Youtube to the BJ tackle - "it was difficult but I managed to m*s*u*b*t" to this". Found it highly amusing, totally irreverent but perhaps I am just puerile and belong to another age... And no I didn't and no it wasn't my comment. Right back into exile. Sticks and stones and all that business.

Apologies for posting, I've placed an embargo on myself. They had run out of beer (ale) and traditional cider on Friday night, and blamed it on staff absence. Bit shocking as most of the people who saved the place are old faarts like me. Others may know better about the situation. I'll ask directly. OK off again now.

Once upon a time in a universe far far away there was a referendum to join the dark side. The dark leaders of the intergalactic media called the light side's attempt to draw people away from the dark side as Project Fear. So the people of this far away world said yes, we want to join the dark side. The several suns still shone in the mornings and the intergalactic Lords ridiculed the the white side for their pessimistic predictions. And then the white side started getting worried as the storm troopers were keeping Princess Msy as a hostage in particular a nasty slobby creature called Johnson the Hutt. And Johsnon the Hutt went 'ho ho' you were wrong before, and had a jolly good laugh. But then the dark side started to tell the people what could really happen. And they all lived happily ever after in Far Far Away Land. Well it all became rather difficult but they were free from the awful outsiders. What happened to all the interesting discussion? What has happened to this site?? Cella if you aint got anything constructive to say then Hutt out.

Thought it was quite a nice objective post thank you very much. In deed did go to the Dispensary hence my observation. It was once and haven't done a study on what range of beers they sell on a routine basis. The point about pale ales/IPAs is that it seems to be many places that focus on these. There is much more variety than that, and at times it's nice to have some subtle flavours too. Trends/fashions do influence demands. Surely you must have clocked this. FFS fruit flavoured cider, that really can't be nice. Or a light (tasteless) Mexican 'style' beer with a lime in it. Hmmm. Better to be prepared to debate and to challenge rather than be supine and roll over.

Some more thoughts. Hadn't clocked where the Dispensary was (ie next to Mr Lawrences). An interesting comparison - the most traditional pub in the immediate area, the Brockley Jack with the wonderful theatre, sells the most dreadful beer (GK). BD has a reasonable range of proper ales yet the clientele generally goes for the more exspensive keg - hence all my comments on 'trendy and fashionable drinks'. The Jam Circus is as eclectic as all Antic places, and usually does three or four independent ales as a reasonable price. I do object to the over dependence on over hopped American style IPAs. The Yanks generally stole European style beers, and ironically it was a Brit brewer, Peter Austin who helped start the whole micro-brewery revolution https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peter_Austin_(brewer). Much of the stuff we have from the 'States is produced in beer factories rather than artisan breweries. And the beer giants want their share of the craft ale market, eg Meantime brewery (akin to Ben and Gerry's ending up owned by Unilever). An interesting alternative is the Canopy at Herne Hill. ?3 a pint and an interesting selection of continental type beers (ie lagers) with less of a focus on the pales. Apols for rambling.

direct trains north of Blackfriars from Denmark Hill
malumbu replied to [email protected]'s topic in The Lounge
Thameslink trains from London Bridge again. Great. London Bridge redevelopment. Great for shopping. Great I understand for forward onto other terminals/Thameslink etc. Was happy with the simple footbridge between platforms in the old days rather than having to go down down down and then up up up. Still congestion coming into the station after New Cross. Trains times from my neck have doubled since the war into London Bridge. Happy with the bigger picture in some respects in terms of increased utilisation, the wonders of the Overground and the seismic shift in SE London now being the most trendy area of London (shoreditch is so yesterday) But the one thing that does p me off is the poorer service to Gatwick due to reduced services to East Croydon. -
anyone know good car hire without added extras in Olbia, Sardinia airport
malumbu replied to Minitoots's topic in The Lounge
Use Economy Car Rentals fairly regularly They list many others including the big hire companies as well as Goldcar (AVOID AVOID). Deals in Sardia look pretty good. https://www.economycarrentals.com/ -
You've missed the k and the b Here's a link that explains it https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=Knob

Please don't answer just with a link. Please give some views. By all means have a link. I Just find it so rude/ignorant/lazy without any explanation or interpretation and dumbing down of society. Even my good friend DR is doing this. Many thanks. PS I was starting with a bit of banter. It's what people used to do in pubs before Twitter.

Anything has to be better than that. Perhaps they may sell some stuff that isn't extra pale pale pale American hopped pale ale. Over to you.

Cool, not sure why I didn't scroll down to the lower fares. Perhaps I assumed that this information wouldn't be readily available or promoted. Anyone do routes likes this?
