Whilst the new rains might be smart and more comfortable (assuming you are not travelling at peak time and therefore crowded into the shorter train), does anyone have any idea when/if we are going to get at least 4 trains an hour? I am sure it is too much to hope for the return of 6 trains an hour that we had before the London Bridge upgrade?

It is just being refurbished. They started this at the end of July and were hoping to finish around now. Hopefully it will not be long, since they offer a good, friendly and competitively priced service. The cobbler/shoe repair man will not be coming back though. Apparently lockdown had hit him very hard with people not needing office or smart shoes.

Thanks. The problem is that the food is frozen/fresh food and so not suitable to put in a bin - particularly in the weather.

No water on Dovercourt Road and it seems that the Thames Water site is having problems - the map of incidents won't load. Hopefully the water will be working tomorrow

I know that it is early but... I am trying to see if anyone has found somewhere that makes a good Christmas cake. I find that most shop-bought ones are very dry. Doesn't seem to matter whether they are from a supermarket or from independent bakeries. Perhaps one of the local markets...? Any thoughts appreciated!

Last year we tried to get Virgin Media cable installed. Just before installation they told us that there would be a delay of around 6 weeks, possibly more, because a site survey had identified a ?construction problem? (for which read about 12 inches of crushed cable outside our property), despite an earlier survey confirming that everything was in order. We therefore went to BT. The same thing has now happened again. Attracted by their alleged 200Mbps speed and cheaper cost I tried again. I explained the previous issue and they promised that it had all been fixed. I insisted on a survey and a so-called engineer came out to investigate. I explained the issue to him. I didn?t see him again during the visit but Virgin later told me that there was no problem. About 3 weeks ago, I called to double check. I was again assured that the problem had been solved and that there had been not one but two surveys. So far so good. Installation day is tomorrow and I get called late this afternoon to say that, guess what, a ?construction issue? had been identified and therefore the installation cannot take place until the issue is resolved at some unknown date. I have therefore cancelled the order and have tried to reinstate the BT service. I won?t know until tomorrow whether that has been successful. How can a company be so incompetent? It sends out an engineer to investigate a very specific and simple problem and he fails to find it. It gives me less than 24 hours notice to say that it cannot complete an order which was placed two months ago. I will NEVER try Virgin again. I recommend that no-one else does either.

I think that this is the most stupid comment that I have seen on this thread. Firstly the front garden was paved over years before we bought the property and secondly are you really suggesting that it is fine for people to let their dogs go out excrete in other peoples' front gardens?? That way they would also be committing trespass as?well as fouling. I think that you need to get a brain as well as a life. Growlybear: People are free to use their photographs of people taken in public places as they wish - including for commercial gain. He was on a pavement on a public road. Therefore there is no invasion of privacy. The photograph is not subject to the Data Protection Act, since there's no identifying information accompanying the image. You could claim that posting a photograph was potentially libellous in England and Wales if it damages someone's reputation "in the estimation of right thinking members of society". However there is a valid defence of the truth against such a charge. I have the complete video of the offence being committed and therefore posting the images is not libellous. And yes, in?the great scheme of things it is not?a major offence, to let a dog excrete on a pavement.?However next time you are wiping?your shoe and cleaning your carpet, let alone hear of a child going blind from toxocariasis caused by?dog excrement, all because of the unthinking behaviour of someone, I wonder whether you will be so unconcerned... No. But it is certainly a side benefit if it makes dog owners acted responsibly. And in case anyone wonders, I am a dog owner myself and always carry a poop bag or two with me. The council very generously makes them available for free from libraries and the like and provides ample poop bins. There is NO EXCUSE. Yes, I do have a lot of things better to do. I also have a lot of better things to do than cleaning up dog excrement that is right at the end of my pathway. As to calling the police, you are probably aware that this is a council matter and liable to fine of up to ?1,000. If the council started to issue such fines then people might be more responsible. On Friday morning I discovered a large dog poop on the pavement directly outside my house on Dovercourt Road. Fortunately I recently installed a CCTV system and have photos of the dog "in action" and its owner - conveniently staring at his mobile. Do you know them? People like this should be named and shamed - and fined by the council.

Agreed... We had a meal there last Saturday evening. Best one we have had in East Dulwich for ages. Good food, friendly staff and reasonable price. Just what was needed.

Another recommendation for Andrew Brock. Last week I took a classic (1930s) car to him, as a result of the recommendations here. Despite no car handbook he solved the problem, and very reasonably. A true mechanic. A real pleasure to deal with.

Another recommendation for John Power and his team. I learnt of him through the EDF last Sunday, and contacted him first thing on Monday. He came within 2 hours to carry out immediate solution and then came back later in the week to complete the job. He works very quickly, and is very straight forward in his explanation of what is wrong. He doesn't try to pad out the job and he charged a reasonable fee. I wish all tradesmen were like him - but hope that he doesn't get too popular so that he will have time to install our new heating system when we get round to it!
