  1. I know some of my fellow east dulwich-ites commute via Denmark hill station - what do you make of the new entrance? It's not improved much in my opinion - you can now walk down to the platforms using two dofferent routes but the foyer and outside the entrance is a mess. There is no clear in or out so people just pile in, there is only one oyster machine and the queuing space for that is not big enough and people in the queue obscure the departure boards. There's no cash machine anymore either. Then there's the space outside the station - the pavement is narrow and gets blocked up with people - especially smokers- who get in the way. It's chaos!
  2. I grew up in the country and there used to always be bee keepers who sold homemade honey or WI's who sold it. But where can I get some authentic homemade honey in east dulwich area? Any recommendations?
  3. Not the result of a 3 point turn but a cyclist was knocked off his bike on the champion park bend at about 1.20-1.30pm. It didn't look good and he wasn't moving. Hope he is ok. Such a dangerous corner and motorists can be so reckless.
  4. I think it was a cyclist Edit 3.38pm - sorry my comment related to a separate incident on the bend on champion park. A cyclist was knocked off his bike.
  5. I haven't seen a 'no u-turn' sign on that road but I might be wrong, either way people still do it. The drivers who drive quite quickly around the corner are the reckless ones. I just think the people who attempt 3 point turns are crazy for doing so because of the drivers who bomb around the corner - can't trust other drivers! Yes, there have been about 3 or 4 accidents on this road in the past year, including that man who go knocked over and where flowers are still left in his memory.
  6. Saw Liz White (Annie Cartright from Life on Mars) in sainsburys.
  7. Reported it already to the council, the police and my landlord (who owns both flat, but is useless). Alas it continues - its like they're stupid or ignorant, or something. As I say, there are other complicated factors at play and it is difficult to get to the bottom of what is going on but all I know is there are frequent disturbances and the police call round every now and again. Also - sorry Lynnne for hijacking the post somewhat. Should i start one afresh if this is a bit of a tangent?
  8. Hi pugwash Thanks for your reply - I understand why you do this manoeuvre but it is very risky. Some drivers might not be as wary as you about the traffic bombing around the corner. It's really heart in mouth stuff. One accident along this stretch of road saw a car go onto the pavement and uproot a (fairly young) tree. But, on another day it could be a person? Myself, I haven't seen people do the 3 point turn and turn off down Grove Lane - they tend to go back towards Dog Kennel Hill. But there is a problem of access to that area near Love Walk/De Crespigny - not sure what the solution is.
  9. Sugar is a business man and likes the look of the margins but I think Dr Totton has not even completed her two year junior doctor training.
  10. Hi there I'm planning s visit to Israel for October. Just wondering what everyone's tips are for seeing the sights. I've got a week out there and don't mind travelling around each day to see all the main spots. Is it best to hire a car? Get a public bus? Where is best to stay? I am going with two other people and we would like to do it on a bit of a budget if possible... Some of the tour packages look extortionate. Is it best to arrange own transport and accommodation and they pay for day tours of major places? Open to ideas and suggestions. We'll be starting off in Tel Aviv. Many thanks in advance
  11. Currently experiencing similar problem but there are also complicated family matters at play too. One of the children upstairs has been arrested a few times for antisocial behaviour but returns or forces his way in and plays loud music or causes a ruckus. Big shame because we like our flat but might move out because of noisy neighbours - a major inconvenience for us. I don't agree that just because we live in London or in closer proximity to other people that loudness should be tolerated. It's about respect. I don't host loud parties or raise my voice - so why should I or anyone else who plays by the rules have to put up with it?!
  12. I commute from Denmark Hill Station and without fail I see at least two (different) drivers a week attempt three point turns on Champion Park road (the road which runs in front of the Salvation Army and the new entrance to the station. A lot of these turns are done nearer the very sharp bend where cars bomb around. It's such a dangerous manoeuvre to attempt and have seen one accident happen as a a result - I'm sure there will be more. Why do so many people do this? I don't understand why so many would need to do it - the traffic wait isn't that long and very few are turning round to get down Grove Lane.
  13. Cheers guys - I'm mainly hearing positives! I might go ahead an arrange a viewing. It's equidistant between Denmark hill and Peckham rye stations and you seem to get very spacious rooms.
  14. I'm considering moving and without fail there always seems to be properties available to rent in Linwood Close, in between Denmark Hill and Peckham Rye stations. Why is there a constant stream of availability? The properties are flats and don't look too bad and are really spacious. Is the location the main issue? I looked on police.uk and there isn't higher than normal crime rates. Anyone have a theory? Anyone live/lived there?
  15. I think we're looking for one night to be a very nice restaurant and the next night a nice, but cheaper option. I just looked up Guilford Arms - went there last year too, and was really good. Thanks for all the suggestions guys, some really impressive places to visit! Another question, what about whisky tasting? Any recommendations? I went somewhere quite good near the royal mile and it was a bar which served be 5 different whiskys for ?14 - was really good. I think we're interested in trying the whisky, not so much a tour about how it is made...
  16. Cheers all for the suggestions! I went to the Cafe Royal last year and loved it. Is there am adjoining pub too? Any restaurants you'd recommend? Need a good Scottish-Italian restaurant...
  17. Hi there I am arranging a highly respectable stag do in edinburgh during the Fringe festival. There's 14 of us and probably worth booking a restaurant and a large table in a pub. Does anyone anyone have any recommendations? Many thanks in advance!
  18. Just reporting back - was dreading doing this myself but in the end did it really well! I followed the video for dummies on YouTube and worked out!
  19. I recommend you see Curious Incident of the dog in the nighttime. A brilliant lead performance and good supporting cast. The staging is very inventive. Tickets weren't too expensive either
  20. It's an acoustic. I just make a hash of it every time - it never turns out like the YouTube versions I've seen. Any links to videos you recommend? Many thanks!
  21. Hi there I have an acoustic guitar that needs re-stringing, problem is that I'm not that good at it. I was wondering if anyone locally could teach me a technique of how to do it? Many thanks in advance
  22. I'm currently with virgin media and am tempted to switch over to BT Broadband now they are offering their sports channels for free. Anyone made the switch? Is it a good deal? I can't work out whether the 'BT Sport app and online player' means you can watch live games or not. More expensive packages say they include the channels BT Sport 1,2&3 and ESPN. What's the difference to the online player? http://www.productsandservices.bt.com/products/tv/packages I would like to start getting the football and some other sports on TV (currently only have freeview), what does everyone else do? What's the best value deal out there?
  23. This has taken an absolute age to be completed. There's a poster up now saying that it will be completeed by June 2013 - I won't hold my breath though. I welcome the improved accessibility and routes in and out of the station. However, the new bridge looks very ugly. I personally dislike the glass panels and the colour of the construction. Denmark hill used to look like a nice classic station but has now been ruined. I suppose we can't have utility and beauty. Also, they really need to install more than one Oyster machine. It frequently breaks and as a result ends up costing me more in buying a single ticket from the kiosk. Also, I hope the coffee guys get to stay!
  24. Thanks tomskip for the planting and purchasing advice - much appreciated! I would like more mint tea and cocktails in the summer. Any mint infused recipes you recommend?
