  1. Possibly a bit out of your way, but the Gipsy Hill Tavern, right by Gipsy Hill station shows GAA games.
  2. Now now James, Your colleague Laurie said this last week... > Dogkennel ? the Lib Dems are an active part of the > campaign, along with all the political parties > locally. It?s great (and very refreshing) to see > all of us working together on this, with no one is > trying to score points.
  3. It might be easy in terms of space at London Bridge, but I'd love to know how much it would cost to construct extra platforms at London Bridge - bound to be many many times more than the ?24 million shortfall that would have funded the Victoria - Bellingham service.
  4. Sorry to labour the point about the map, but the tube map people are on about doesn?t show all other rail links to other places in Zone 2 south London. That map also shows that there are apparently no direct rail services from Clapham Junction to central London, ?as if overground rail services didn?t exist?! There's other maps available. I am supportive of what you?re doing of course, but in the short term getting the best out of the proposed railway changes and in the long term improving the area's physical connectivity are more crucial than worrying about drawing lines everywhere on one map, and which might only detract from the message.
  5. Thanks James, It would be good to see if such changes can be made at London Bridge - hope the Shard development doesn't jeopardise anything, and that's there enough money available in whatever transport budgets there are. Apologies if my posts to you and Laurie seemed curt, I do fully support your and everyone else's work to promote this and other transport issues like the cancelled Cross River Tram which would help to improve access and regeneration in inner south London.
  6. Thanks Laurie. Nice to see your map. The map you?ve used as a base shows what the future map would look like with the ELL extension to Clapham Junction when TfL would be in control of it, so we would be on the map from 2012?! I do hope people living all over London are sensible enough to realise that there are other travel maps available apart from the tube map! People living here seem to have worked out how to use National Rail quite nicely.
  7. I?ve commented on all these SLL proposals before on previous threads. There?s a good recent write up on the excellent London Reconnections website linked here. This reiterates that the measured analysis of Network Rail et al assesses that the current South London Line cannot continue in its same format. So someone travelling from Denmark Hill to London Bridge might not have a direct service, but have to change across platforms at Peckham Rye (and you?d get better frequencies Denmark Hill to Peckham Rye than exist now). However that RUS did propose the intended Victoria ? Bellingham service which would have provided the evening service and Wandsworth Road / Clapham HS ? Victoria links which I gather was cut to help fund the ELL Phase 2. As well as the passenger services, there?s a lot of freight trains which need to be squeezed through here too, so you can?t just throw on more trains. James Barber, I?d like to know what a Lib Dem administration (or any other politician for that matter) would do to alter the proposals in the mega million Thameslink scheme which causes the lack of capacity at London Bridge which is one of several reasons for removing the SLL. Or how to deal with the complexities of the railway around Battersea Park.
  8. Details of the application with some funky looking images - see the "Enhanced 3D images" in particular. There's a new entrance to the side of the existing building on Champion Park (moreorless where bus stop is) with slope to a new overbridge providing additional steps and lifts to all platforms. The existing stairs and bridge and ticket hall look to remain as they are so much improved capacity and access all round. Can't wait! Denmark Hill Station planning application details If link doesn't work the application number to search for via Southwark planning register is 09 AP 0669.
  9. I got given a card on Thursday at the station, and entered with my survey number online. Feel I ought to follow up a couple of points made here? To give out the cards without any publicity does at least mean the cards go to people who are on the train that day so they may be able to cross check with some other boarding figures about how many people got on or off trains about the actual usage that day - the main questions on the card were about where you were travelling from and to. If you?d handed out the cards on more than one day then you might get people entering a couple of times which wouldn?t be wise. Quite how many percent of those people on trains that day who will respond is another matter, one for the surveyors to work out. June isn?t the best of times to do a survey, as it?s at the start of the holiday season, but I guess Travelwatch have had to move fast to get the surveys commissioned and to have waited a little longer and you?d have been getting into July with many more people going away etc I suppose they?ll have to separate out the people who apply now in any analysis.
  10. Latest ED station update - the gates to both platforms were closed when I just walked past, so I very much doubt they'd be reopened, and that's on the off chance any local trains were to start running.
  11. From my eye in the sky over ED station I've not seen any trains pass through yet. The live departures board linked above is worth keeping tabs on, though as trains listed on there seeming to run are then cancelled at short notice it wouldn't surprise me if trains and crew are ready to start running from depots or stations but as the snow is continuing to fall lightly that rail conditions can't be guaranteed along the route, let alone access to platforms and staircases etc.
  12. Still nothing happening out of the window at East Dulwich station, light snow falling on the lines. There was a hand written note on the ticket machine with words to the effect "no trains for the foreseeable future, listen to media for announcements". Hope that suffices as a note to concerned bosses?
  13. All Southern Metro services are suspended. I live by East Dulwich station, can see the snow covering the lines!
  14. At risk of filling up this thread with lots of words, I thought I'd copy and paste the relevant text out of the document for anyone jumping to conclusions, so that you can read its reasoning on the consultation responses and alternatives, and the package of measures it suggests. Although the ELL Phase 2 is by no means guaranteed this is quite strong support as far as Network Rail goes, and they'd be hard pushed to alter (not remove entirely) the SLL service without providing reasonable alternatives. I'm going to look forward to a 10 min or so train journey from Denmark Hill to Clapham Junction. http://www.networkrail.co.uk/browse%20documents/rus%20documents/route%20utilisation%20strategies/south%20london/south%20london%20rus.pdf 5.3.10 Option Groups 8 and 10 considered the future of the South London Line service from Victoria to London Bridge via Denmark Hill. This subject generated 597 of the total of 627 written responses to the draft RUS from members of the public, their elected representatives, and local companies/ organisations. Over half of the submissions (308) came from members of staff at either Kings College or Maudsley hospitals. As happened with the draft Cross London RUS, many of these were evidently responding to one of several interesting but inaccurate interpretations of the RUS document, rather than to the document itself. The draft RUS did not, for example, as some people supposed, recommend any reduction in the number of trains running through Denmark Hill, still less the closure of the station itself. Full details of what the RUS now recommends are included in Chapter 7. 5.3.11 Concern was expressed about the loss of direct services from Denmark Hill to London Bridge if the SLL service were to be diverted away from London Bridge towards Nunhead and the Catford Loop. Seemingly overlooked by many local people, however, was the strong support given by the draft RUS (support which was welcomed almost unanimously by other stakeholders) to early implementation of the East London Line Phase 2 extension to Clapham Junction as a means of mitigating that diversion. This would effectively double the frequency of journey opportunities from Denmark Hill to London Bridge, at the expense of one same-platform interchange.1 In addition, the suggestions in the draft RUS would make access to the hospital sites quicker and easier (and potentially cheaper if avoiding Zone 1), particularly from west and east London; this would benefit staff, patients and visitors alike, which was a repeatedly stated aspiration of the hospital staff. 5.3.12 Among the industry stakeholders, there was widespread recognition that the SLL service cannot continue in its present form. Even without the threats posed by the likely severing of Battersea Park Junction and the loss of terminating platforms at London Bridge, the service represents a poor use of network capacity which satisfies only a comparatively low level of demand ? for which alternatives are either already available or proposed. 7.5.2 The RUS recommends that the existing Victoria ? Battersea Park ? Denmark Hill ? London Bridge service should be maintained in its present format as long as it is practical to do so. As highlighted in section 6.3.2 timetable development work suggests that a Victoria ? Denmark Hill ? London Bridge service will be able to continue in the 2010 timetable. 7.5.3 In the slightly longer term the RUS advises that retaining the SLL service in its current format will not be viable. The key drivers for changes being needed were identified in the draft RUS and are described below: ... 7.5.7 By December 2011, and subject to the development of a satisfactory business case, the RUS therefore suggests the following peak service to serve South London Line stations: - 2tph Victoria Eastern to Bellingham, fast to Wandsworth Road then calling at all stations via Denmark Hill. - 3tph Victoria Eastern to Dartford via Bexleyheath, calling at both Denmark Hill and Peckham Rye. - 4 tph East London Line to Clapham Junction, though this is subject to funding for this scheme being approved. - 4 tph Thameslink via Blackfriars to the Catford Loop, calling at both Denmark Hill and Peckham Rye. - 6 tph London Bridge to Tulse Hill and beyond, with all services calling at East Dulwich, North Dulwich, Peckham Rye, Queens Road, Peckham and South Bermondsey 7.5.9 It is recognised that the above service pattern would also result in some features which are considered by some to be disbenefits. In particular it will result in: - The loss of all direct trains (2tph) from South Bermondsey and Queens Road Peckham to Victoria (though a 5tph peak service would be available with a change of train at Denmark Hill or Peckham Rye). - The loss of all direct trains (2tph) from Clapham High Street, Wandsworth Road and Denmark Hill to London Bridge (though approximately a 6tph peak service would be available by changing at Peckham Rye ? 4tph without the need to change platform). Overall, however, the RUS considers that the loss of direct train services for these passengers is compensated by the benefit of increased frequencies.
  15. Councillor Barber on the ball only just "stumbled upon a set of plans" now - the report was published in February or March this year. And IIRC the report said that it strongly supported Phase 2 of the East London Line extension (providing a service to Clapham Junction) although funding for that is still being sought.
