  1. Good condition. Grab a bargain. ?40.
  2. Was some repair work supposed to be happenening to the rye or did I get wrong end of stick? I?ve just buggered my knee after tripping on a tractor rut left there. Should have been more careful obviously but it reminded me of this thread.. I guess the whole area looks aweful still due to the heatwave?

I want to get a fire going in our fireplace. Anyone know where I start? How do I know if it?s capped/blocked etc and I guess I should get it swept.. are there restrictions on smoke type? Cheers
  4. Thanx both I?d forgotten I?d posted this !
  5. Hello About 20by30cm. I can fit it just don?t know where to get it near ed? Thanks
  6. Hi I need a certified electrician to install a single socked for me.
  7. Any ideas how much this should cost me? I've never hired an electrician before. SHould I ask to see certificates or something? Cheers
  8. Hi, New years Hobby swap - Cycling for kitesurfing Does anyone know of a club round here that cycles sat or sun and is suitable for slower riders? I don't yet have a proper road bike just my trusty hybrid. Have done a couple of ~20 mile rides recently but on my own it's pretty boring. Thanks !
  9. There was a mobile camera car pointing at the junction from the peckham rye side of forest hill road for weeks although haven't seen it recently. Not sure why it was positioned there though as nearly all the light jumping I've seen is from ED road?? I wonder if the camera car was there just to record the problem, as it obviously wouldn't get number plates for issuing fines... seems a bit stupid
  10. I think previous offences should be taken into consideration when deciding someone's guilt sometimes. Is the rule of keeping the jury in the dark about previous convictions applied to all cases always? Can't a probability matrix be created, and thresholds set whereby you are prosecuted or not by numbers? Different thresholds for different crimes? There is still miscarriage of justice even with this rule of no previous to be mentioned in place so the idea that an innocent person may be convicted is not new - just formalise it.
  11. Vicky terrace and don't want to wheel bike through our newly done up hall. The bike is only worth 300 squid so don't want to go for an expensive metal storage thingy. Do you think a bike cover and dlock it to the railings (set into concrete) would be ok? Or is it better out of site in a wooden shed like thing? Thoughts/personal experience appreciated. Ta
  12. There is a mini roundabout at the junction of upland road and Underhill Road. For whatever reason it causes drivers to get confused and give right of way to the left rather than the right (when approaching). This isn't just a one off it seems to happen every other time for me. I live just there and so use it all the time so am used to it, but a serious crash is surely gonna happen. There is old faded road paint, and bad signage which probably add to the confusion. If anyone else has the same experience can you write to the council? I guess that's what I am going to do now Duplicate topic http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,622283 - The Administrator
  13. Just to give u a chuckle : (1) got real mean on that water feed pipe stop tap. Hairdryer for 10 mins, bought a basin wrench and oil and now buggered my wrist. (2) noticed a small hole in the wall where all the piping was heading (3) Got new bats for the torch, guessed it? Yeah wrong pipe. This one that i've been trying to bore into the wall feeds the tank from the mains. I turned of both tank pipes ages ago - 1 in 1 out, except they must have both been out, 1 to boiler 1 to appliances. Tits. (4) SO I guess there simply isn't a stop tap for the kitchen sink except the mains outside the house. All I want to do is remove the kitchen sink units. The sodding kitchen tap nuts are limed up and can't undo. I wonder if I can just cut the pipe and cap it somehow...
  14. Ha yes I kept my mobile in my pocket with thames water number pre dialled just in case! Yup there is green powdery stuff all over the shop guessing that is the lime then. If I could just turn off the water I'd simple cut through the piping (after buying a new hacksaw). Thanks for all the help
  15. Cheers. I'm actually stripping out the kitchen so these pipes are gonna be history soon anyway (as sink is going elsewhere). I managed to turn the pipe tap 3ish turns clockwise until it came to a stop but no help. Do you think I need to keep turning it, or somet is broken inside (can this happen?). Yes I imagine this tap hasn't been turned in about 35 years (when the conversion was done to make 2 flats).
  16. ta ! short on patience and successes :( I wonder if the cold is feed from a tank, and what I need to do is empty the tank....
  17. Cheers for the ongoing help ! The mains outside was just a tap so that was fine. I lost my rag with the hot kitchen sink tap and cut through the pipe it with a hacksaw (which broke :( I got a basin wrench but that was no help for the bolts under the sink. The hot turned eventually with a spanner and a bizarre angle, but it kept turning and turning along with the tap, but didn't come off. It was like the thread on the pipe was not a helix but just a never ending circle! That's when I hit the roof. The basin wrench unstuck the pipe leading to the kitchen cold tap. However, it turned afew times clockwise, came to a stop, but didn't stop the water flow (I think it reduced it a bit but that could be my imagination). So big fat bllocks for my DIY day this is why I hate it - you have to get to a certain level of knowledge and tool aquirement to do anything it seems! Shall I call it a day do you think guys!?
  18. oops! Ok hammer is away now. The shuddering continues. Double oops. Is it possible I could break it with a basin wrench also? I'm hoping if it all goes Pete tong I just need to go outside and into the small metal lid saying water and I'll be able to turn it all off from there.... How about oil or something would that help? Or only when I've actually managed to turn it I guess for future turnings
  19. Thanks. I've got one closed off - by the front door, and that has shut off upstairs. The other one still won't shift after hairdryering. I tapped it a couple times with the hammer and water starting leaking where the pipe came out of the lower half of the tap peice. Tightenning the nut stopped that. Can I hit it hard with the hammer, making sure I support the pipping (it's kinda free and wobbly as there is a dogleg, and now shudders if I don't support it with a peice of wood)? Or am I in danger of breaking the tap?
  20. Mmm... can't turn one of them off I need spinach. Actually the house was 2 flats, we've just bought the bottom one (already own the top) and re-converting. So, we have 2 sets of waterworks (1 tank and boiler downstairs the other set in the loft).
  21. Ah yes there is a pipe leading up from the basement to under the stairs with a tap on it.. I'll have a go at that. There is also another pipe going upwards, just next to the front door. I'll have a go at that too! It just looked too thin to be a water pipe but I'm a newbie to all this. I thought it might have been gas. Thanks and wish me luck ;)
  22. wow 13 views in only 3 minutes! And no-one knows! Or are at this very second under the kitchen sink ;) Alternatively would you know how I can remove the tap and reinstall it after removing the sink unit without turning off the water? Ta again
