  1. Sweetgirl, The onus should be on lorry drivers to have additional mirrors fitted on their lorries if they can't see the traffic they are riding amongst, not for everyone else to take courses to see how little they can see.
  2. Sorry to be pedantic but I find it kind of irksome that people refer to all theft as 'robbery'. Robbery is defined as violence or the threat of violence in order to commit theft. This case was attempted theft, not attempted robbery although it could be argued to have been attempted burglary if his arm was on the premises through the letterbox.
  3. I've got the same problem and the guy my neighbour used previously on a different fence was really good. His name is Francis and his number is: 07946 025444. He came out yesterday to do a quote and is starting work on Thursday. He's buying all the materials and giving us the receipts for payment. Reasonable labour costs too.
  4. These two are from my brother, snog an OAP and do a moonie with a fag between your cheeks and ask a passer-by for a light :-)
  5. There always seem to be different versions of the same types of pyramid schemes popping up, especillay in an economic downturn. Fool and money springs to mind.
  6. If you read a bit more carefully dear, you will see that I actually agreed with your analysis re urban males and my offering of wealth divide envy is not mutually exclusive. Like I said, you could find someone to argue with even in solitary confinement!
  7. Maybe it's operated on some kind of referral fee basis, so they'd get paid for signing people up.
  8. I didn't say there had been an increase so the stats are irrelevant to my point. I knew boys in my youth who did that kind of vandalism to the property of people they considered to be privileged and I know of young guys whose attitudes are the same today as the you g guys I knew back then. I was offering an insight into possible reasons in response to the earlier poster, but you would argue with yourself if there was no-one left on earth, Hugo.
  9. So how many people who get their tyres slashed, paintwork keyed or their wing mirrors snapped off, do you think report these crimes to the police? Overall crime stats have nothing to do with this.
  10. I disagree Hugo. Much of what drives the whole of western society is ownership of stuff to elivate relative status. Some people who can't afford to buy this stuff, sell drugs and steal the stuff. Others also look at people who easily afford the stuff, especially the really expensive, visible stuff such as cars and feel envy and anger which can be acted out by damaging the other person's stuff. I agree that the lack of direction and investment is a major driver of the underlying reason they are ordinarily excluded from being able to purchase the stuff in the first place.

  12. Well I'm impressed!
  13. How on earth did you manage to guess it from Hugo's mad diddly dees?
  14. Hugo, on the outsourcing issue, there was a report a couple of weeks ago, I forget the details, tgat said there were no discernible cost or other benefits to outsourcing when compared to state run services. Also LondonMix et al, your analyses presupposes that Capitalism is the only way to organise society and that even within capitalism, the systems of the exalted free market are actually in effect. Many others, including me, do not share that view. And before you trot out Russian Stalinism etc, that is not the only alternative view. Replacing one hierarchical structure with another and asserting it is benevolent is just as redundant.
  15. Wealth divide envy?
  16. And in walks Mad Max. Lol, I'm stocking up on rice, tuna and crossbows as we speak!
  17. Not at all Hugo. The co2 vehicle industry is subsidised by new road building rather than rail, cycling etc. the nuclear option espoused by Tories as the green alternative would take huge subsidies to get off the ground. Every outsourced service, education/transport/prisons etc takes tax payers money away from the services we need in the form of profits for shareholders. Ditto health soon. And in relation to your statement earlier re the purpose of redistribution and society, society should be for arranged for the benefit of all the people in it, not just big business owners and corporations. The means of feeding/housing/watering ourselves has been removed from most of our control and we have been turned from autonomous residents of earth into dependant, micro-managed, slaves to vested interests who control what rules are put in place and who our money and labour benefit.
  18. Yep, drop trident and the imperialist wars to start with.
  19. Lol, couldn't think of any other jobs that might end up surplus to requirements after massive economic collapse!
  20. My alternative view: The economy continues to free fall. All the media/arty/PR jobs dry up. Formerly comfortable middle-class residents move to cheaper areas. Housing become harder to sell and are split into multi-occupancy flats. The area declines in value as a result and becomes tougher. The remaining middle class residents who can afford to, move to more salubrious areas and the area becomes what it used to be. A rough round the edges, working class area.
  21. I agree the govt were complicit, which is why we have no option but to make a fuss. I also agree that the govt are using this as a smoke screen, but they have jumped in an already significant bandwagon of campaigns dating back years. I disagree that tax should be about incentivising business however, as in my opinion it should be used to re-distribute wealth and provide services.
  22. A bit like colonisation then Huge?
  23. So that's ok then. Phew. There was me thinking we should try to make a difference, but the Inland Revenue and the Government have already thought of everything and have it under control. Silly me!
  24. They would still need to do something about the dodgy selling stuff to different parts of themselves though.
  25. Well if there is a legally imposed level of corporation tax of 20% (too low in my opinion, but that's another argument) why can't the UK government arrange that the total they pay for their UK activities is 20% no matter where they are registered? So if they are registered in a jurisdiction that only charges 1% tax, they owe the remaining 19% to the UK Government. Or just do what France (and the US) do and tax them on all earnings here and abroad, no matter where else they pay tax.
