  1. It's the toy equivalent of jam doughnut versus organic, sugarfree muffin. Parents lovingly prepare the latter while the ungrateful sprogs lunge lustily for the former.
  2. So far as I know there's only one pool at Wavelengths. In fact, there *is* only one, unless they've build a second one and given the cuts, I very much doubt it.
  3. The last few times I took my kids there, the water chutes were closed. No staff to supervise, I was told. Cuts, cuts, cuts.
  4. I have been offered 3 places at a school I didn't put on my list and somewhere utterly inappropriate for my kids, one of whom also has Asperger's and OCD. The uncertainty over the next months will take a heavy toll.Hurray for parental choice...
  5. The problem with lotions is that lice are so endemic in local schools that children get re-infested and you have to repeat the process...which contributes to the breeding of *SUPERLICE*. Personally, I'd recommend combing every three/four days with this: http://www.lloydspharmacy.com/wcsstore7.00.00.297/ExtendedSitesCatalogAssetStore/images/products/large/2946366.jpg
  6. A huge thumbs-up for John! First visit a few days ago and he came on time, was very clear about what needed doing. Came on time, did a great job at reasonable rates and left everything working properly!
  7. @ Pugwash: he was professionally diagnosed, yes - six months ago. The school have been a bit hit-and-miss in their approach...So much depends on the individual teacher. His Asperger's is not esp relevant as he comes across as just a bit shy on the whole. I have an extensive report from the Michael Rutter Centre but am keen to find out which schools have prior experience so as to avoid having to do all the donkey work of explaining how OCD manifests and how they need to support him at school.
  8. I have a child with OCD and mild Asperger's Syndrome who's currently in Year 6. I'm looking at secondary schools with a specific interest in how effectively they meet the needs of children with 'special needs' and wondered whether anyone has any personal experience/information to offer... My child isn't statemented and is unlikely to be, given that his results are good and he's not disruptive in any way. (The fact that he's not achieving *his own* potential appears to be largely regarded as unimportant.) Quite a few schools reference how they support chldren with dyslexia and ASDs but I'm not sure how many have solid experience of OCD...
  9. Definitely possible. One of mine was lactose-intolerant and this went unnoticed while I was breastfeeding but when I introduced formula he had gastro-intestinal symptoms the way you describe.
  10. I think there's more than one at Goose Green. One meets at St John's church/community centre on Tues 6.30-8pm. It's an Elfin group (ages 6-9) but there's also a Pioneers (10-13) group there. If you look on their website you'll find a local contact. There's often a waiting list - be warned.
  11. I have ten-year-old triplets. Feel free to PM me with any specific questions you have! Best wishes.
