I meant it as in burke but without the 'r' sound (hard to spell if you think about it)- Same goes for cook, look etc. I have no problem with 'luke' or any other genuinely accent/region derived pron. but when people pronounce it as though they were 5 years old and fail to rhyme book with rook (I know, that doesn't really help)it grates.
