Was this because of your cautious approach to Vingt-et-un? Because dogs chased you and insisted you come and meet their owner? Because your classmates were all South African and were implying you lived in a dump? What!?

ETA: Another good autumn snifter is a small glass of Apfelkorn - an apple liquer (though only 25% proof) that used to be on offer at De Hems in Soho (not been in a while), warming and very apple-y.
Moos, DC's right - turkey breast is dry no matter what you do to it but St Delia's bread sauce together with the gravy and cranberry will smother it into a festive submission. I should add that I hate you for being the first person to talk about this year's Christmas and make it all seem so near and so awfully fucking inevitable and unavoidable.

The problem with groups like the EDL is that they 'appear' to have an identifiable enemy - Islamists - who are as resented and despised by most Muslims as they are by non Muslims; but they themselves - the EDL - are largely non-Muslim. When the ANL marched against the NF in the 1970s it was because the aims of the NF (and later the BNP) were demonstrably racist. The EDL may be hiding similar racist/anti-Muslim feeling behind their concern over Islamists taking over in Newham and this will persist until/unless the Muslim membership of the EDL increases and/or the Muslim community form their own anti-Islamist organisations (both of which are, imo, unlikely). An afterthought - The idea of people being forced to behave a certain way in areas of Newham because of a vocal minority saying that they represent the quiet majority is not dissimilar to being in an Irish pub in Kilburn years ago when 'the boys' came around with the collecting tin. Failing to donate and/or stand for the rebel anthem could have serious consequences back then.

I faced something similar nearly 20 years ago and I trusted in St. Delia of the Christmas Dinner. Her menu for dinner and the recipes themselves are easy and her timetable wasn't hard to follow/keep to. It may not be Raymond Blanc but it will be relatively stress-free if you follow her lead. Failing that I would recommend the skiing and hot-spring spa treatments at Termas de Chillan (400km south of Santiago, Chile) as Venezuela is a little chav(ez)y.
