Dulwich and Peckham Pool - Southwark shambles
Alec1 replied to Murneen's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I don't disagree with Nigello, but the same problem will continue. Too many people will turn up, and those who get their first, will get in, others will be turned away. So you could go there every day you want to swim and unless you get there earlier than everyone else, you may not get to swim at all on all those days. -
Dulwich and Peckham Pool - Southwark shambles

I'm not disagreeing with your feelings as until I got to grips with the system, I was struggling to get a space, but surely those who aren't 'diehards' will lose out as well? It would be so frustrating/disappointing to schedule a time in the day for a swim, walk to the pool, only to find the pool was oversubscribed, so no swim. From what I gather, the lane swims are for 'diehards' who want to swim constantly in a lane, be it fast, med, slow. Where the other sessions, public swim, family swim, senior swim etc are for those who just want to swim generally. There is something for everyone. -
Dulwich and Peckham Pool - Southwark shambles

Removing it would then mean, some people who turn up to swim may have to go home as there is no room in the pool. The sessions aren't really long enough for people to wait until one person comes out. -
Dulwich and Peckham Pool - Southwark shambles

The Dulwich pool is back in working order now. I went yesterday evening. The booking app has been difficult, and I did have issues, but the manager sorted it out fairly quick for me. You will need another card, (new Southwark one) which might be the issue. Go in and speak to them if you can, sort it on site. From my assumptions, Everyone Active left the pools in a mess, disrepair. Southwark are picking up the pieces. Whilst I personally don't like booking either, there realistically isn't room in the pool, say during lane swims, if more than 10 people turn up per lane. It's just not big enough, and a turn up and swim would likely end in chaos and not a great experience. -
Dog alert - the council is spraying the pavement with poison
Alec1 replied to rMattos's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Weedkiller with glycophosphate can also damage car paintwork. Any spray residue on paintwork, after they have sprayed on kerb side, needs to be wiped off. I had to do this a year or so ago when I saw them spraying. -
The frontline Plus stops the eggs hatching in your home, not sure if that was the one you tried, as there is a basic frontline. I only found it the best for my cat. Others didn't work.

no experience, but found this on council website.... apologies if you have already seen. https://www.southwark.gov.uk/home-owners-services/buying-selling-subletting-and-remortgaging/buying-unused-areas-or-space-in-your-building

This isn't debate. Nor should trans people be debated. Why would I want to share any views I have on here? It's very clear, that any views which don't align with yours and Alexander2022, are not of value.
-
Perhaps that's because we can't be bothered? Like the saying....don't feed the trolls. However, basic respect for another human being should ALWAYS be challenged.
-
You have just talked about a trans woman you know - I am guessing SHE identifies as female. Therefore, you should be referring to her appropriately, not misgendering her. Why should she use male toilets or male changing rooms? She isn't male. Which toilets and changing rooms would you be expecting trans men to use? Think about it carefully.
-
So you're basing your ideas about trans people on blue haired spicy straights and an old transsexual who was a gay man and regretted transition? Sad. You need to get out more and meet some trans people. Put some effort into doing so instead of moaning about a minority group you know nothing about behind your screen.
-
Wondering how many of you commenting have actually met or even know a trans person or, at the very least, have had a conversation with a trans person to find out what it's like living in the UK right now as a trans person.

It's been fixed for a while now.

When I searched a month ago, there weren't.

There's one Clapham Common way https://thecactusclub.co.uk/

Pool temperature is now sorted as are showers after 2 weeks plus. The changing room however, continues to be very cold. Not as cold though, as section you have to walk through to get to it.
-
The pool itself is not cold, around 26/27, but the changing rooms are like ice. Shivery cold. Showers are luke warm. Not a nice experience coming out of the pool.

Update on insourcing of Southwark’s leisure services
Alec1 replied to legalalien's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I had to cancel a session recently at short notice due to illness. I was easily able to transfer the payment and the session to another week by phone. I imagine you could do this more than once if necessary. The person I spoke to was helpful. Also, I had previously been told that you can just turn up without having booked, but they can't guarantee you will get in Surely they have to have some limit on numbers or there would be no space for people to actually swim? I go to lane swimming, don't know what the other kinds of sessions are like, but there would just be jams if they had many more people there! Maybe try and find out which sessions attract the least people and/or the most cancellations/no shows? Many people just don't turn up when the days are short and cold, I think. Why not discuss your situation with the swimming manager there? His name is Peter and he has an office somewhere behind the reception area. I imagine you could just ask for him at reception, or maybe phone to book an appointment? Or write a letter and hand it in at reception and they will put it on his desk, which is what I did (about something else). I don't know if he has an email address. Don't forget to include your contact details and/or your Everyone Active membership number! Thanks for the reply Sue. I would be doing a slow lane swim, and it would very likely have to be a middayish one. I am a bit limited with times, again for health reasons. I just think swimming, and any exercise, should be stress free, without pressure or any feeling of guilt! It's bad enough feeling guilty for not doing any :-D I suspect it will be in the new year for me now. -
Update on insourcing of Southwark’s leisure services
Alec1 replied to legalalien's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The booking system has basically stopped me even attempting to go swimming. I don't seem to be able to book anything. The whole system is very ableist. For health reasons, I can't predict if I will be able to go swimming at the pre-booked time, (if I could actually get a space) and would potentially have to cancel at very short notice, which I believe has some form of penalty. -
There's also an external fee one at a newsagent, opposite the Tessa Jowell centre.

Foreign racial slur used as bakery name on Lordship lane
Alec1 replied to Fassianos's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I would never have known this, and I am glad I do now. Really shocked that someone would knowingly use a slur for the name of their business! I think it is really important to bring this to everyone who will listen/read. I also wondered if it might be worth contacting local councillors/mp's as obviously it isn't a great look for East Dulwich. -
bit late to the party, but I just wanted to agree, he really is a lovely guy and in my experience very honest and helpful.

I would initially suggest you speak to the practice manager. If you are happy with all other aspects of the surgery, i.e. the GP's.
