lol, do you mean the 'Alice In Worlderland' house? I would NOT describe it as 'tastefully' refurbished at all!

I loved Two Trees when it was in the 'yellow and blue' shop, it just went down-hill when it moved to where the Italian is now, shame as it was really popular before it moved.

I see Anatolya is closed AGAIN for refurbishments, I'm sure there is a link between new eating places opening and Anatolya closing to re-invent itself, the funny thing is I have rarely seen anyone in there so am wondering how the place makes any money! :-S

Will be great to have a new coffee shop will mean I don't have to sit outside in the cold to avoid all the awful noisy children in the park cafe!!! >:D<

This has to be post of the day, imo! >:D< I get so tired of opening doors for 'the yummy mummies' of ED, for them not to even acknowledge you, let alone thank you.

Has anyone noticed when you are walking along the road with your friends/boyfriend and the 'yummy mummy' and her brood are approaching from the other direction, they never move either, it's like they think they own the place!

I moved to ED 10 years ago and it never used to be this bad, a friend of mine repeatedly described it as 'the breeding programme' and we gave up going out for Saturday lunch/coffee as we were not made to feel welcome by the many 'yummy mummies' in the Blue Mountain. Funnily, enough I was out with a friend and her new born daughter a few weeks ago & even she commented to me it was 'all too much' ... I'm all for 'child friendly' places, but when you are made not to feel welcome in your neighbourhood, you know it's time to move on ...!! :))

Maybe it's going to be where the Tulip Cafe was?

Does anyone know what the shop will become once it closes today?

I was woken up as my window was rattling and the door slammed (it was ajar), I thought it was the wind but clearly it was an earthquake ... Eeeek!

I hope Cafe Nero stays, personally I prefer it to Starbucks or any of the other chains for that matter, at least you get a loyalty card and the quality of the coffee is good. The staff are friendly in there and as previous posts say, do we really want a derelict shop that at some point becomes another estate agent or poncey shop that sells baby clothes or nick-nacks. Okay, so they've not followed the rules, but I'm sure they aren't the first and probably won't be the last. I say fine them and let them get on with doing what they are good at ... serving coffee!

I heard that too, but they are not true ladybirds, these things are horrid and they bite! I've got about the same amount in my lounge and the zooming around my head drives me nuts!

I've just tried the window cleaner trick but now three more have appeared!

Thanks for the warning! I always squash them in kitchen paper and flush them down the loo! It's the black ones with the red dots that freak me out! Urgh!

Aaah, great I will try that! I need to rid myself of the pests, it's worse at night as they collect on my lamp and buzz around.

I am at my wits end with these damn things! Every time I have my heating on and the light on, they appear through the gap in my sash window, I had about a dozen on Saturday crawling around on the glass. As fast as I kill them they appear again.

Does anyone know if they go away once the weather gets warmer? Are they seasonal?

I have had an infestation in my flat, as fast as I kill them they appear again, they are varied colours and I have a suspicion they are the nasty american 'ladybugs'.

I would love to know how you rid yourself of them!!!

Of course we do! It's great that it's been so successful here in East Dulwich, that they can open another one for others to enjoy who can't or won't come down to East Dulwich!

That wall was a part of East Dulwich IMO, been there for as long as I can remember at least 12 years, a real shame that it's gone.

The Rye gets my vote ... and yes I know it's not technically in East Dulwich ... it's in Peckham...

But it's great all the same, great food, friendly staff and great vibe ..

Well, yes the point you raise Rosie H about people in ED ot being insular, but do we REALLY need another gift shop with overpriced 'bits and bobs' in it?

I definitely think a good bookshop, music shop & cinema are what the place lacks.

Isn't it part of the fun to try somewhere new that 'doesn't quite fit into a normal category'???!!!

I would also have to agree that East Dulwich is 'transport challenged' espeically if you work in the West End, it takes and age on the bus & catching the train to London Bridge means catching the Jubilee line which is frankly overcrowded and unreliable.

Keeping on the subject of Green and Blue, I think it's an asset to the area and I think it's a real shame that it's facing these dreadful difficulties.

I have lived in East Dulwich for over 12 years now and would say the 'gentrification' of the area has both it's pluses and minuses.

Really?! I liked it when we went, great place to have a coffee (which was good & better than the average ED offering) & the cakes were yummy. What makes you think it can't decide what kind of establishment it is? IMO, it knows what it is, primarily a tea room.

I also found the staff friendly without being overly false .... Maybe we went to two different places!!!!

It definitely beats the Blue Mountain, which is always over-run with people, push-chairs/kids & you can't move or hear yourself think whilst trying to have a cup of coffee in peace! In fact, one problem is the tables are just too close together. I notice that other branches are popping out elsewhere now, so it's turning into a chain (lol!!!!)

I didn't specifically mean in the space next door to White Stuff, I meant generally ....
