  1. I would also have to agree that East Dulwich is 'transport challenged' espeically if you work in the West End, it takes and age on the bus & catching the train to London Bridge means catching the Jubilee line which is frankly overcrowded and unreliable.

Keeping on the subject of Green and Blue, I think it's an asset to the area and I think it's a real shame that it's facing these dreadful difficulties.

I have lived in East Dulwich for over 12 years now and would say the 'gentrification' of the area has both it's pluses and minuses.

  2. Really?! I liked it when we went, great place to have a coffee (which was good & better than the average ED offering) & the cakes were yummy. What makes you think it can't decide what kind of establishment it is? IMO, it knows what it is, primarily a tea room.

I also found the staff friendly without being overly false .... Maybe we went to two different places!!!!

It definitely beats the Blue Mountain, which is always over-run with people, push-chairs/kids & you can't move or hear yourself think whilst trying to have a cup of coffee in peace! In fact, one problem is the tables are just too close together. I notice that other branches are popping out elsewhere now, so it's turning into a chain (lol!!!!)

  3. Yawn, another gift shop, to go with Willow, ED, Mrs Robinson, Celestial etc etc .... Can't people who are opening shops in this area be a little more original?

I'm bored of these kind of shops that seem to want to appeal to the same kind of people - i.e. middle class people with too much money!

One thing that East Dulwich could do with is a cinema, but I guess that's out!

  4. Urgh, just been in The Rye for the evening. In the smokers area at the back was a large group of suited and booted boys and stiletto-heeled girls who just I just knew were estate agents & I feel sure were Foxtonites as there were two green minis outside (but unbranded) ...

I feel sad that our area has been infiltrated by this scum ....

Urgh - it was a very sad day when 'that lot' arrived in our area ....

  5. I think the complaints are working .... ! Dare I speak too soon ... ? A post van arrived at lunchtime today and three posties got out with trolleys and were delivering post up and down the streets around Colyton Road. There was already a postie delivering on our street!

I also got a whole mountain of post last week which contained all the missing items I had been waiting over a month for!

Fingers crossed that this improvement in service continues!

Glad to hear that Tessa Jowell has been interested in our plight too!

  6. I do believe that the postal problem does not just cover East Dulwich, my boyfriend lives in Streatham and a parcel he was waiting for just didn't arrive for over a month and then just appeared!

I am finding even the 'signed for' mail comes at random.

I've noticed these past few days we are getting a lot of post through our door, after a post drought for a while (yes I live on Colyton Road) but we are still getting the post for the people next door and they are getting our post too.

Can these postmen not read - or they just not interested?

I like other people on this forum am now having my mail sent to me at work, or am using another method (i.e courier) rather than rely on Parcel Farce!

  7. Bishop - I live on Colyton Road & have been having problems with my post for a while, missing magazine subscriptions, cds going missing, credit cards taking ages to arrive. Today, we got so much post it was unbelievable, but sadly a lot of it belonged to the house next door! When you rang Royal Mail Customer Services what happened, did you complaint get addressed? I've given up with the sorting office in East Dulwich, its always so riduculously busy that they are not interested.
  8. Ha ha! Yes, we are always getting 5 or 6's post - strange when we live at 7. Clearly, the post people of SE22 can't read!

Nero - I wasn't the lady with the children, I actually kept quiet, as I knew if I said something I'd get nowhere. I did pick up a card of Royal Mail Customer Services to ring, but not sure I can be bothered to call, to not get anyway!

  9. I'm glad that it's not just me having problems with the post! The service is DIRE! I subscribe to a magazine and since the strike it's either not turned up or I receive each week's copy weeks and weeks later! I've been in contact with the subscription office but they say it's Royal Mail, I've actually now changed my delivery address to me here at work as the mail in Central London seems better.

I wanted to complain on Saturday when I went to the Sorting Office to pick up something that had been sent by special delivery but the queue was ridiculous and it was clear that the office was understaffed and the guy wouldn't have been very receptive too me.

I've also had post go missing, I am still waiting on a CD that was sent normal post at the beginning of November ... last I see of that I guess ... :(

Does anyone know where we complain?

  10. Foxtons has to be the worst thing that has happened to East Dulwich in a VERY long time.

I keep meaning to ring up to tell them to stop putting about a million brochures through our door and how many letters has everyone got about them arriving in Dulwich?

Clearly, they have no interest in the environment with the amount of paper they waste with their advertising and their mini's polluting the local atmosphere!

Grrr.... Rant over! I just can't abide Foxtons I've heard so many stories from friends about their unscrupulous behaviour, I would never ever use them.

  11. Does anyone know what has happened with the Thai Pavillion? I went there in the summer and had a great meal and we decided to get a take-out last night, but when we phoned the number had a recorded message saying 'no incoming calls' and when we looked it up on the internet the website seemed to have disappeared!

If it's gone it will be a shame, although it was never that busy, I found the food and the service so much better than the Thai Corner Cafe, which is always too rammed and the food not that great!
