  1. HI I have a wall that is suitable for street art. Close to Franklins and Farm shop. Been thinking to try to get a mural for a while PM me Thanks
  2. I am looking for a nanny/childcarer who could collect and drop off my daughter every Friday afternoon from Dulwich to Herne Hill. It is a short trip, yes, but she needs to be at her dance lesson within 10 minutes of finishing school and I am looking for someone who could commit to doing this trip for her every Friday for the next 6 weeks, as I am working. Willing to pay ?5 per week.....
  3. With help for my corporation tax returns [v.small business] and with advice on another new business Any recommendations would be welcome Many thanks
  4. Hi I am looking for a local metal worker who could weld/fix some the back sections of some vintage metal cafe chairs for me Am local in East Dulwich Not a big job but looking to get it done fairly quickly Please PM me with rough costs and availability Many thanks
  5. Would the people's supermarket be a mix of the Co-operative and the Franklin's farm shop? Much more preferable than M&S and Waitrose.
  6. Dear Si Mangia I eat very often at your restaurant also, as I live in Honor Oak I don't quite understand about the tone of your mail - I support a lot of local businesses and do not know quite what you are suggesting that I have criticised at your place.
  7. Calm down I haven't responded as yet because I'm busy yes - do give it a try. Surely the answer to that question is that I had a lovely sunday lunch there with my family I also support MrBen with his view on opening new businesses in a recession - it surely can't be easy so would be helpful to offer constructive criticism rather than scathing remarks????
  8. Heh heh I went for lunch at Rocca today for pasta! Had a lovely plate of pasta pesto with the addition of green beans and potato, an authentic pasta alla genovese - I have to say it was delicious. The pasta there is made from OO grade flour, which is why I can eat it [as I have specific dietary requirement], and this does often taste slightly different to what is more commonly used. I like Si Mangia too - a good local eat - I know Lorenzo's and that they are sister restaurants, but I heard that their dough is frozen as is their seafood Love thai corner too - especially the BYO!!
  9. I'd forgotten all about your ridiculous slanting on this place Fazer 71 Have you found anywhere in the local vicinity that is up to your very high standards yet?
  10. Maxxi I'm not sreaming - and understand your point about kids intelligence. But, there is the issue of motorists jumping lights and chancing ill timed turns. Our kids would not read a motorists intentions as they do not drive, whereas an adult may pick up if a vehicle is going to chance at the lights. For me, this is the issue. We need our lollipop people!
  11. Charter school also use the crossing. Your tone in previous posts is very unnecessary and offensive. A lot of parents that choose private education nowadays are not wealthy, just normal working individuals. In answer to your question, no I do not think that JAGS [or Alleyns] should pay. We live in a community. I do not ask that I should receive tax relief because I opt out of the state schooling system....
  12. My daughter attends one of the aforementioned private schools, and fyi I do live locally and pay taxes. As it happens I am unable to walk her into school as I am going to work early to pay the fees. Grow up. The one thing that gives me peace of mind is knowing that there is an authority manning the crazy junction at east dulwich grove. The crossing is particularly subject to erratic driving in rush hour as it is very precarious for drivers, children and cyclists alike. If it is left unmanned it is only a matter of time before there is an accident. Some of you need to get off your soapboxes....
  13. http://www.themeatwagon.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2011/05/sixteen-hawkers_final-wk-1.jpg thebeard - the above link is for the festival. Apologies, Vietnamese was on Thursday night. Re. Rocca - Strongly disagree, ingredients from Brindisa are not poor quality [i asked about their tuna on the salad]. Anyway, each to their own... Happy Saturday
  14. I notice that you edited your post to include your blight against Rocca, are you in cahoots with Fazer71? Hehe Why don't you try the Rye pub on Peckham Rye - they are having a food festival this weekend. I've tried the vietnamese offering at Broadway Market - that was 'yummy'
  15. I think Fazer must work for Pizza Express - like their food - bland and frozen Rocca is owned by the same people as Franco Manca Why dont you look up Guiseppe Mascoli and see the link between the instead of harping on about this endlessly There was a queue there tonight when I passed by after work. Its Monday night!
  16. Fazer 71. You are obviously on a mission to discount this local restaurant for some reason. What they offer is unpretentious good food that is well priced. The wine list is particularly good value. I urge members to try it for themselves.
  17. I don't get you guys? Rocca isn't a chain - there's only one other. At least one of the owners is Italian, because I met him and he also owns Franco Manca in Brixton Market - which is FAB
  18. Don't be fooled by Pizza Express. I used to work there and the food is far from fresh. The pasta arrives frozen and so does the dough for the pizza. They don't even make their own tiramisu any more. Ask pasta is also owned by Pizza Express, so it would be the same thing if it came to the Village. Rocca is good value and freshly prepared at least....
  19. Wow That's not a very good recommendation. I've been there a few times and had no problems with the food,it has seemed rather fresh and a mile away from any chain restaurant food. You must really know your stuff to feel so passionate to give it such a POOR report. As far I know Rocca is not a chain [as in Pizza Express or Cafe Rouge]there's only one other Rocca restaurant in South Kensington [according to its website], and it is twinned with Franco Manca in Brixton - which is superb. How disappointing that you feel that it is not that great - I have always thought that it was pretty good value considering its positioning and the service is very personal and friendly. I ate there with my family yesterday and we thought that it was really good, the pasta was really fresh and the kids were invited to view the pizza cooking in the oven - a very personal touch that you just wouldn't get in a chain Happy Easter Zebbedee - I hope you have a happier meal this bank holiday :-)
  20. Just come back from dinner at Rocca. Only had mains of one pizza and one pasta Both very good and the wines are a steal for the quality you get Served by a fabulous young Italian waiter who was brilliant. Walked past Pizza Express on the way home and they were very quiet. Rocca was full with a queue
  21. Deepest sympathies to the family of Charlotte Leatherbarrow - we are all thinking of you
  22. I tried Rocca in the Village on Sunday last week - the place was buzzing Given the dire offerings in the village this really is something a little bit special. Arrived early and a man called Giuseppe took me and my daughter to look at the wood fired oven which was fantastic We had the homemade bread and arancini to start. The bread was absolutely amazing, the best I have tasted in a long time. For mains we had one pizza and one pasta which you could tell was home made. The pizza was really authentic and full of simple flavours reminding me of the ones I have when I go to Franco Manca in Brixton You cant compare this place to Pizza Express. Its in a different league and the prices are much much better so you dont need a voucher all the time
  23. I am a local resident with three children, and I frequent the park on a regular basis. Dear Me Me Me, I have signed the petition and I think that it is important to keep outside space for the local children, dog walkers, football players, joggers and all whom visit for some time outside and away from busy modern life. I think that your comment regarding cremation is in very bad taste and disrespectful. London is an ever growing city and faces problems such as these - we need intelligent thinking from the local community and council - not unhelpful comments
  24. Hi Does anyone know a chap called Ed, a reliable tree surgeon based in Denmark Hill [i think] as I have lost his number and he did a great job for us last summer, and I need to call him in for some more work. Thanks!
