  1. My wife and I use the P13 in the morning to take our daughter to school and barring the odd breakdown it is pretty reliable. In the evening however it is a different story with the bus timing being very irregular. I find this frustrating but I think it is hard to regulate the service due to the traffic flow along the South Circular. I use the TfL website to check the arrival time for the bus - doesn't help get it there any more quickly but at least you have an idea of how long you are going to have to wait. A couple more buses at peak times would be helpful.

Without knowing what rent they pay or seeing their financials then it isn't possible to say this for certain. I would imagine that having being established for some time that their rent is substantially lower than the Picturehouse's.

The living wage isn't a legal, safety or worker protection issue though - it is a voluntary scheme that employers sign up to.

The term "driving down staff costs" makes it seem as if they are attempting to reduce the current pay rate rather than maintain it the level the staff were employed at. It isn't at the LLW level but I would assume the employees knew what the salary was when they signed their employment contract. A slight side issue but I do find it strange that people sign up to work for companies such as Deliveroo, Uber etc knowing they are doing so as contract staff and then complain that they don't have the same benefits as a fully salaried employee.

In reality the Conservatives went into the election saying that if they had a majority there would be a referendum on EU membership and when this happened (against the opinion polls) they followed through with the referendum. Again the pollsters got the figures wrong which probably lead to a complacency amongst the politicians on all sides of the house. Not sure how you can say a democratically elected government acting of the result of a referendum that they said they would hold if elected is "profoundly undemocratic"

  8. Barclays do a children's saving account - I opened my daughter an account in the East Dulwich branch - I think it is a minimum of ?1 - not sure about the ATM card though.
  9. I think Yahoo are having issues as I use Yahoo e-mail and it has been up and down today.
  10. London Overground also cancelled the 11:29 Dalston Junction train at very short notice today so not sure if they were having problems.
  11. For services that only run within the capital (or within the area that TfL cover) I agree that would make sense. I would imagine they would have to compensate the TOC if they were moved before the end of the franchise. That said the London Overground operates with driver only operated trains - it would be a strange situation where these services switch to this method of operation yet this is what Southern are looking to implement.
  12. rahrahrah Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > responsibility for > Southern, Southeastern and South West Trains > placed under the remit of TFL. I don't think this will (or should) happen without the franchises being redrawn. These franchises (Southwest especially) also run services outside London with some routes not coming anywhere near.(http://www.nationalrail.co.uk/static/documents/content/routemaps/nationalrailoperatorsmap.pdf) Not sure it would fix relations between the management and unions anyway as TfL hasn't exactly been unaffected by strikes.
  13. We got Fay Ripley's "Fay's Family Food" when my daughter was about 9 months old and we still cook from it five years later. The recipes have are low touch and healthy and also have tips about how to modify them for young children. I'd certainly recommend it - we got it from Rye Books.
  14. I don't agree that the markings of the speed limit are vague - they are sign-posted and painted on the road plus there are banners in the borough saying that the limit in Southwark is 20mph. I also don't see how it being a TfL bus route makes a difference - are buses not expected to obey speed limits?

All of these > drivers will be written to about their driving > behaviour. Why weren't the details of the speeders passed on to the police? I doubt a person who thinks it is okay to do over twice the speed limit is going to take much notice of a letter.

I think Waitrose have missed the boat - I was not particularly an M&S fan but I think they have got the offering correct for East Dulwich. I think more interesting would be if Aldi took over The Co-op premises.
  17. The idea of having a second vote is far too reminiscent of what happened with the EU Constitution after France and the Netherlands rejected it in referendums. If the franchise is changed to allow people who weren't eligible to vote the first time to vote the second then it does just look like an attempt to stack the deck. Perhaps if the EU had taken note of the concerns of the European people back when the EU Constitution was rejected and revised how the EU worked then the UK wouldn't be at this juncture.
  18. William Rose has them - tucked inside on the right hand side.
  19. Traffic was very heavy again this morning going right back to Red Post Hill. It looks like Thames Water (or one of their contractors) are doing some work at the intersection and their are temporary lights.
  20. I found an Oyster card and driver's licence in an Oyster card holder near Friern Road this morning belonging to Jamie Thomas Middleton. Please PM me if it is yours or you know him otherwise I'll drop it at the police station. Thanks, rjsmall
  21. By co-incidence I was in the Museum of London on Saturday and they have an exhibit and interactive display with the maps http://www.museumoflondon.org.uk/london-wall/whats-on/galleries/peoples-city-1850s-1940s/ Very interesting to look at what was in the area 125 years ago.

Many thanks for raising this. > Hi James - I agree that the service is problem free in the mornings - I use it to do the school run and it works very well. However the evening service is a different matter. I get the bus at the stop by the South Circular / Croxted Road junction and although the bus only starts a mile or so up the road at Streatham they are very badly regulated - I quite often wait twenty minutes only to have two P13s appear within a minute or each other. I use the mobile countdown website and it is frustrating to load the page and see the due time as 17 and 18 minutes.
  23. Yes - seems to be back to normal which is good.
  24. The P13 is on diversion due to resurfacing on Whateley Road. (https://tfl.gov.uk/bus/status/?Input=P13&lineIds=p13&direction=inbound) Does anyone know how long this is scheduled to last? Thanks, rjsmall
  25. During the school term I use the P13 to take my daughter from the Friern Road stop to the West Dulwich station stop. Usually we get the bus about 8:05am (as Jah Lush suggests use the Live Bus Arrivals from London Transport online) and arrive anywhere between 8:25am and 8:35am. On Friday there is usually less traffic and the journey is quicker. It can get crowded at the Grove Tavern stop but a lot of people get off at Dulwich College and West Dulwich station. I have found it to be very reliable - once or twice in the mornings it was late. For the return journey in the evening I have found it less reliable - sometimes you get no bus for 20 minutes and then two turn up a minute apart.
