Weird balloon woman (who won't respond to you) - Southbank
Otta replied to Otta's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I was thinking "surely they wouldn't do that with a big bunch of kids balloons", and I wondered whether maybe she didn't speak English, so I figured I'd try to communicate with the international language of cold hard cash. I think it's great that you're in to all this stuff TE44, but several people have told you why they'd have an issue with this particular aspect of it. -

Blatantly a set up for some holier than thou nonsense. I wasn't talking about you though. And TO ME it aseemed obvious it was a young person, I'd have guessed 16 - 18 years old. -

Also, how do you jump from a 13 year old using a computer at night, to a 13 year old then getting their coats on and calling to their parents "I'm just popping out to meet some stranger that might have my phone", and the parents just going "alright then love, pick me up 20 fags and a can of special brew on your way back will you?". -

My daughter was more concerned about the fact the lady wouldn't talk to us than the fact she didn't get the balloon. That's what she remembered the next day. -

Good post. It seemed obvious to me that she was a young person (wouldn't have guessed as young as 13, but maybe later teens), and that the word Gypsy wasn't meant in any nasty / racist way. Some people on here just like to jump on stuff like that in order to show how right on they are. Hope her phone turns up, or that she keeps a closer eye on the one Santa brings her ;-) -

Agree Buggie, And like I said in my first post, I thought the girl looked Eastern Europan, and I'm guessing she was in it for a few quid (could be wrong of course). She WAS very very good at it (the bitch), but yeah, the artist could give it a go themselves. Also, I know this is a terribly sexist thing to say, but I think I'd have reacted differently if it had been a bloke (more questioning and use of choice words may have been involved). -
Well the prices at Beer Rebellion seem to suggest that you can sell it cheaper than an average pint. But of course I don't know what the FP pay in rent/rates.

I saw another article recently about how all the character is being wiped out of London by the wealthy buying everything, and thought it was an odd place to find it. But there are lots of articles of that ilk in the paper (well on their website at least) now it seems.

?5.80 for a beer is absolutely ridiculous! There is absolutely no justification for that other than greed.

I intend to write to them, and perhaps linking to this would be a good idea. And I won't be slagging off the idea, as I actually quite like this sort of thing and would normally see the interesting / funny side if it didn't involve kids. It's just the using of something that's going to attract children which bugs me. -
But I am going tonsillectomy the article on Facebook all the same.

"Social media?s great for getting Dapper Laughs kicked off ITV2, but not so good for influencing long term policy." Yep.

I found this photo online, which I Think is the same woman. Thing is, I'd have no issue with this, the balloons are plain, and I'd have assumed it was something "arty" (plus it's in a much quieter area). But to stand just outside the main entrance where there are things going on, with a load of the themed balloons that you see at funfairs and festivals (for sale) is in my opinion teasing small children. -

But surely those people would have avoided approaching her in the first place? It's up to a parent to set boundaries for their kids. If a parent has agreed to buy the balloon, then they approach the seller, so the kid understandably thinks they're going to get a balloon. -
I thought there was no need to actually do that.

What did you mean by "ed bubble"? Explain your comment and if I've got you all wrong I'll apologise unreservedly. But based on your posting history I don't think I've misunderstood your meaning. -

Haha, I wondered yesterday how long it would take for someone to jump on the use of "gypsy". -

I haven't gotten on board this year so no idea what's going on. But as I said earlier, I saw a couple of sing offs and they were shocking. Last night I tuned in to see the new Band Aid, and when I came back in to tyhe room some bloke was absolutely slaughtering Somebody to Love. It really does seem like talent is lacking this year from what I have seen. In years that I've watched it there have always been one or two genuinely talented people (they don't go on to win).

I know, they did. My winky smiley was meant to denote the fact I was being silly.

"Dish"? DISH???? It's a f**king toastie man!!! ;-)
