Don't think the people I'm talking about would fit that category, they're not hardcore. And the timescale you describe pretty much fits when I spoke to them. I've always wanted to like it, but just never have really. The David Tennant / Billie Piper / Darlik / Cybermen thing was cool though.

Reading that old thread is interesting. I said the Pixies and Nirvana. Giggirl (Gawd bless 'er) gave me some tickets to check The Pixies out at Brixton, and I had a great time and really enjoyed the gig, and then I downloaded loads of their stuff, and now it gets skipped if it ever comes on my ipod. Similar to "The Boss", the wife and I saw him live last summer (or was it the one before) and it was good fun, but when a song comes on it tends to get skipped. But agree with *bob* on that last thread I guess. Who are any of us to say something is "overrated"? Ig millions of people have bought an album and you dislike it, who are you to tell those millions that they are wrong. I admit that for me it's far too much about personality. Chris Martin = twat = Coldplay are shit. Artic Monkeys = twats = They're shit. Radiohead were just shit though.

Back in ED and the Aircraft Noise is worst than EVER !
Otta replied to fazer71's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Oddly enough I was thinking of this thread just the other day as I sat in a meeting room 500m from the runway at city airport. I remember thinking how no one had to raise their voice as a plane came in to land. -
It was also 5 years ago.

Salsaboy mentioned that U2 are in his top 3 on another thread, so thought I'd start a thread. Obviously all very subjective so let's not argue, just wondering who people consider overrated. I'll open with the bleeding obvious. Coldplay. PS. I'm not what you'd call a U2 fan, only own one album which a mate inexplicably got me for Christmas years ago. Think they've produced some utter shit. But, I think they've produced a few really great songs.

I don't watch Dr Who, but three separate fans have said to me they think the new series is shit. What are others thinking? Note: They seem to be saying it's more to do with the story than any failing of the new Doc.

I don't drive either, so know exactly where you're coming from. I actually tend to jump on a 176 for 5 minutes and go to Sydenham as there are more trains. But coming back I'll go to Penge West (who wants to get a bus at the end of their journey) > Budget is probably around 250-300, with maybe a > bit of wiggle room on the top end. 2-3 beds. Probably just that I work there (Newham), and as such I tend to see the grottier side of the place. But it's just not a borough that appeals to me as somewhere to live at all. If I was forced to go that way, I think Forest Gate / Wansted area is the pick of the bunch. Again though, SE London feels like home to me. Fpor me it feels completely different to any other part, including SW *spits*. So I admit my opinion will be biased.

I know December has been done, but one from my student days. Yeah, I was a miserable git as a student. Funnily enough their debut album (the one before the album with this track on) was called August and everything after.

Yeah we're having to get the bus now. If I was doing it alone I'd walk it, but it's too far for a 5 year old. And that's reminded me, I can think of two (and there may be more) kids in my daughter's year that have been moved by the council and now live a total mission away. They would rather a school place near their new place, but there isn't one available so they are forced to do the journey. In my opinion it would be harsh for them to then have to take a younger sibling somewhere local to their new place, and then travel to take the older sibling to school. For me, unless one child is placed in a special provision due to SEN, siblings should be at the same primary school. Secondary not an issue IMO, most 11 year olds should be able to travel toschool on the bus independently.

Just for the record it takes me 25 - 30 minutes to get frpm Sydenham (after dropping daughter to school) to Canning Town. Could get to forest gate within an hour.

You are totally right that there isn't really a fix all answer. We were a little bit like family B. Living in rented house for 4 years (having not even considered schools when we moved in whilst expecting baby number 1). Daughter got place at the school around the corner (not the "top" school in the area, but we didn't like that anyway). Then we found we had an opportunity to buy sonewhere and it felt like now or never. Couldn't afford to buy in the immediate area (unfortunately, as that's where I'd like to have stayed) so bought what we could afford a couple of miles away. Now when baby number 2 starts reception next year she'll likely get a sibling place. I would honestlyr understand someone living closer to school being upset if their kid misses out on a place next year and my girl has a place, but my conscience is pretty clear, we kept older girl there because moving her would have been difficult for her. If however we'd moved to the first place for a few months just to get the school place then pissed off to where we'd rather live once the place was secured, we'd be blatantly playing the system, and you'd have to have no consideration for anything other than yourselves to do that. I should also say that we didn't realise our youngest would still get a sibling place when we moved and were expecting to have to somehow deal with two separate schools. It was a relief to learn otherwise I won't lie. But as you say, what rules could possibly keep everyone happy and stop piss takers? I don't think there is a perfect solution. Unfortunately you always have to rely somewhat on honestly and decency from people, but there will always be some selfish scum "doing the best for their kids" at the expense of everyone else. Edit to fic predictive text typos.

I lived in Sydenham for 8 years, and really like it there, but it is getting more and more expensive. Moved to Penge in Feb this year, and am genuinely loving it. It's a bit rough around the edges at the moment, but it really feels as though it's an area that's changing. I'd say get in whilst you can still afford it because I do believe the next 5-10 years will see a lot of change. I'm from East Dulwich, so remember it when it was NOTHING like it is now. Penge feels like ED did at the turn of the century. I work for Newham, and know the whole borough well. Forest Gate does have some beautiful housing, but I wouldn't touch it with a barge poll. Or anywhere else in the borough to be honest. But that might be because I'm an SE London boy born and bred, and I just prefer it to any other part of London because it's what I know best. Parts of Catford are nice, but that feels a bit further away. What I like about Penge is that it still feels (to me) like the same "part" of London as Sydenham / CP / Forest Hill and Dulwich. (don't forget that CP basically was Penge until they shoved that big green house on Penge Common ;-) )

Some people ask for suggestions of recipes, I'm asking for suggestions of nice drinks. You're the one who's making something of it.

I don't think I'm a hero, just seemed like a good challenge for me and if I can raise money for charity along the way then what's the problem? Is running a marathon / shaving your head for charity any more heroic than an alcoholic trying not to drink for a month? I dunno, I don't really think so. The person that wrote that article comes across as a bit of a cunt quite frankly. The "sober hero" thing is MacMillan's doing, I doubt anyone signed up actually thinks they're a hero and certainly not more than the nurses and doctors that treat cancet patients FFS! And if someone does this and raises a few quid for a great charity, then so what if they feel good about themself? As for me, I drink loads of water, juice, tea and squash. Once the kids are asleep however it's strictly booze time, and I'm just looking for something different to try at those times.

Some people jump out of a plane "for charity". Bull shit, they want to jump out of a plane and doing it for a charity allows them to. I'm hoping that people (friends) will appreciate how hard this will be for me and make a donation on recognition of that. But that's me.
