    Secret Santa Help

I did think socks, but then thought Nah. A running belt seemed the most likely and useful clothing option that she MIGHT not have, but I am thinking the pampering after a long race angle might be a goer.

See if you can > find something specifically for sore muscles (not > sure that exists). That's a good idea. Or I was thinking of either a book or something funny, but I wanted ideas from runners (being a lazy fat bastard myself), so thanks.
  3. Thought I'd start a thread to get some ideas, and which other people can use if they're stuck. Right, so I have drawn out a female colleague, 28 years old, SERIOUS runner (like does qualifying times for marathons). I don't know much else about her interests other than that she likes to go out for a drink with her pals. So was thinking of a running related gift. The allowed bBudget is around a tenner. Any ideas???
  4. Yeah, a while ago I was watching that Sonic Highways Foo Fighters series, and they were in Austin, Texas. Guitarist Gary Clark Jr (wicked player by the way) was saying venues that had been there for years were constantly being raided by noise police with decibel metres, or being closed down as a result of luxury apartments being built around them, and the new residents not liking the noise. That is where gentrification goes too far, when it removes any fun from a place.
  5. I guess if a couple of blokes walked in to a station in high vis jackets and started fiddling with a machine, the majority of people would just walk by, assuming the were engineers of some sort.

Might not have known exact figures, but it should hgave been obvious that people being told they can't have a service will question why a load of money has literally been burnt. It's almost as if some councils (and I'm not just talking Southwark) think "make big bangs, people go "oooo" and forget that the library is being closed".
  8. Ah, but Cameron has refused and it will be a one day debate. Result almost feels inevitable now the free vote has been given. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-34973637

  10. It's always good to have the environment on the agenda, but when Obama says he doesn't want an agreement that is made law, because he's stand no chance of getting it through in the U.S. you do question the point.
  11. I think a free vote was the right choice. But I also think it's good that Corbyn has asked for a full 2 day debate on the matter, and I will be interested to see how he performs. Could be a key moment.
  12. Hi James, Are you able to tell us what Southwark spent on the fireworks display at Southwark Park this year? I'd also be interested to know whether not having a display was ever considered?
  13. I don't disagree with you, but when authorities are struggling to provide even the statutory services, things have to give. And for every person saying one thing is vital, there will be another person saying another thing is vital. Afree fireworks display in Southwark Park certainly wasn't vital, And probably cost enough to fund a couple of adventure playgrounds.

So volunteer to staff it. I think you're being quite harsh to the councillor here. Cuts being faced by LA's right now are HUGE. An adventure playground will never (and should never) be a priority when genuinely vital servuices are struggling. And I grew up playing in that adventure playground (when it was far more dangerous and fun)and have no wish to see it gone, but you need to be realistic. Bad times.
  15. So basically London is like the borg from star trek, just assimilating different areas so that they have a collective organic consciousness.

My point really was just that you didn't have to go far out of central London to be out of London.

Hahaha,ah yes Swansea. I'd forgotten about that.
  18. Surrey's cricket ground is The Oval. Basically south of the river used to be Surrey.
  19. Indeed, I actually live in the borough now (just). Rubbish council. I've always preferred Croydon for shopping (and that's saying something). Bromley always felt fur coat and no knickers, whereas Croydon is crotchless panties and proud of it.

    Davis Cup

Nothing to cheer about really is there?
  21. Doesn't change the fact that Bromley always has and always will be shit though. Although agree Bromley South is useful.
  22. That is good value (assuming it's half decent grub).
