  1. Absolutely things have to change, and fair play to people for taking to the streets, enough has turned in to far too much already. I just see the two as separate threads of the same argument. I'm probably not expressing myself very well; of course they are inextricably linked, but as I think Savita Halappanavar deserves to have her case heard separately. I really really hope something comes about because of this, and your right, lets not wait and see at all, for the law to be changed. Good luck, Ireland, it shouldn't be so difficult, but don't think its going to be easy.
  2. Reeko - I don't disagree at all, I don't think many do. (Its disgusting what happens, especially in the cases of unborn babies who are incompatible with life. I'm wary of 'picking' a worst case, but in my opinion that is harrowing that someone doesn't have any choice in that situation). I've already said that the law needs changing. We shouldn't ever be having the debate over whether a doctor couldn't do his/her job property because of ineptitude, or wouldn't do their job properly for fear of breaking some archaic law/moral belief. But I do believe that intertwining the two does this woman a disservice, her case needs to be heard on its own virtue. THEN the law needs to be changed, I think I've said that in a previous post. The law itself is what's backward, and the influence of the church on the state is completely destructive, agreed agreed agreed.
  3. But straferjack, not if the death was due to negligence. Do you get that yet? What I'm trying to say is that we don't know. We weren't in the hospital ward as events were unfolding. Let the inquiry tell us the answere and then we can judge all we like. I'm no defender of the Catholic Church and its [sometimes] (depends on your point of view) destructive influence over generations, but I am a defender of innocent til proven guilty.
  4. Agreed, ontheedge. And also agreed straferjack that there will be people who will hide behind the church, but I do think things are changing, who would have expected enda to stand up to the pope!!?? I also think its important to make this difference, the deceased died because of the law, not religious beliefs. Yes this absolutely means the law needs changing. Whether this turns out to be plain old negligence (which dudleys posts allude to, and which can happen anywhere) that still stands true, and it's horrifically sad that someone has died.
  5. "The debate going on in Ireland since shows the country wants to move on but that established forces (the same ones against contraception and divorce) are dismissing these views. As they always have done." So its the institutions which are backward, not the people. Its a very important difference to make.
  6. Hello again, Welcome and congratulations to everyone! Speaking of Active Brith Charly, would anyone be interested in a weekday class? For various reasons, even though I've 'been through' the process before, I'd really like to go to a workshop Charly is putting together. I work full time and have a toddler, and am loath to lose another day of the week from her even if the cause is as good as this! Let me know so I can see if its worth putting a big enough class together to make it worth Charlys time. I have spoken to her via pm and she is willing to do a weekday class subject to numbers. Have a good day everyone!
  7. When the following plays out: parent: Where's the books/your head/the tree etc etc? 16 mo : points obiedently at various things. parent: Wheres Mummy? child : points at me with a silly grin on her face parent : Where's Daddy? child : looks blank/wistfully out the window/at the ipad. Never FAILS to leave me in stitches! But then on Saturday I brought her out for the afternoon and forgot her shoes. HER SHOES FOR CRYING OUT LOUD! So back to feeling completely inept, then....
  8. I would have thought a 'sound reason' is any reason made by a 'sound person' in their own 'sound mind'. Free world with grown adults capable of making their own minds up about what they do with their own bodies. I think Sillywoman summed it up nicely.
  9. Wow - all 2nd timers so far, #2 due (March) well before #1's second birthday (end June) though......
  10. Do your PFE's standing up. Its really hard as your working against gravity, and therefore doing a lot of strengthening. It means you can't just do them while drooling over GBBO, but it does also mean your concentrating on doing them well.
  11. Bonfire 2010 - was in exactly the same position of trying to glean info from the EDF to help a friend in Dublin who was having enormous BF-ing issues, but actually they went back into the hospital (I dont know which one, Holles St I'd imagine) and the team there spent 2 hours with them looking at latch and technique etc. I can't remember what the underlying problem was, or if they ever found it, but they decided to bottle feed. But what I am trying to say in a round about way is that there should be help and support available. Happy to find who they saw/where they went if that helps? Have also signed the petition btw.
  12. Thanks Yak - sounds v familiar. She hates to think anything is happening without her (her Granny doesn't know WHERE she gets it from...). Sometimes I think the nursery staff look more stressed than me! I like the early bed suggestion, as I also think that her daddy gets a bit overexcited when he gets her home and they get a bit exuberant together, to put it mildly. A stop to this is going to go down like a lead balloon as he doesn't even agree that its over tiredness. Anyway he is away next week so I can trial away to my hearts content (and tell him what I like quite frankly!). Thanks again & hope all the Yak-ers are well!
  13. Hi, Just wondered how this worked out for those who were suffering, and if you came to any conclusions as to the cause? 14 mo has been screaming each night since Thursday at bedtime (exactly as the OP describes), has a few random early wakings (between 4 and 6) and last night between 3.30 and 5.30. She was previously a really good 7-7 sleeper, going down with minimal fuss. Personally I think it's chronic overtiredness. She only naps for an hour or so a day and is super active when awake. This is really since she started full time nursery 6 weeks ago. I'm ruling out separation anxiety as she is now very happy there with no signs of stress at drop off or collection. She is noticably tired and I've asked them to try harder to encourage either 2 naps or 1 longer one (most feasible option at this stage I think) but if this is going to continue we are going to have to have crises talks! Just wondered what other people's experience were and thoughts with the benefit of hindsight before I go in so I can have a discussion with them and something to back up my suspicions. Sorry for long post, TIA.
  14. Really great to see new and familiar faces last night. For anyone who coulda/shoulda/woulda there's always next time!
  15. Try leaving a bit of the skin on a wedge of mango/pear/melon/slippier foods as a grip. The more you leave her to it the faster she will learn! I also did the pre loaded spoon left in front of M, where the problem was getting back the spoon. 6 months later she sometimes turns the spoon around to hand it back to me handle first! Rice is still very tricky (unless risotto), but I saw the other day that she was using her spare hand to keep the "bowl" end of the spoon steady so it didn't lose it's load before getting to her mouth. So it's still a work in progress....
  16. Just a reminder to line up your night off tomorrow in order to come and meet up in the Mag! Everybody welcome, come along, say hi, have one too many or none at all. Looking forward to it, 7 ish onward.
  17. Ah BB were they yours?! They are adorable! Sorry I can't remember their names but your older girl was great with Matilda. You don't owe me anything, I stepped out of the pub and into a cab completely unexpectedly - I was the winner as far as I was concerned! Its all booked for the Mag, I think I said from 7, but that it was likely we would start dribbling in from 7.30 (given bedtimes etc). It's the area immediately at the front by the door. Everybody is welcome, come say hello over an oj or a glass of wine too many....
  18. How does Thursday 5th at the mag sound? I'll book the area at the front - everyone wear your best welcoming smiles!!!!
  19. A lovely timely resurrect seeing as there are drinks coming up... Hope to see as many there as can make it. I have to admit I haven't read all the thread but can absolutely relate to what I've read....
  20. Yay! Yes all welcome! I seem to remember Thursday's are better for everyone, but please put your thoughts forward, the more the merrier. Hi Jayne, yes all well thanks, you? Hoping the next wooden circle isn't a Noah's ark affair.....
  21. Feeling a little behind on my task of organising the next family room drinks... and now ready to hit the bottle over this dammed weather! Anyone up for getting together to hex that idiot whosoever uttered the word "Drought"? I was thinking before school holidays, so early July?? Any takers...?
  22. So as to make the info I got publicly available: Mild prolapse- swimming, walking and post natal yoga fine, potentially able to take up running in 3 months after a check up. In the meantime LOTS of PFE, also, do them standing so you are working against gravity. It strengthens the pelvic floor more than doing the exercises lying down.
  23. I've booked for a week from 31 may through vintage travel. Was able to request baby equipment (free if requested at time of booking). I think they all have pools and gardens, (we have one with both and a covered veranda) and I'm sure you can get a location close to a beach. As long as you book out of school holidays it looks ok price wise, tho you are likely to need a hire car. We are going to a place close to the costa de la luiz so also had plenty of airports to choose from. Obv haven't been yet, so I hope it's all ok, but the co have been helpful to deal with so far.... www.vintagetravel.co.uk
  24. There's one in Battersea - The Latchmere. Its not that big but ok if you need to add some variation for the week!
