Peckham Pulse does Jelly Baby sessions in their hydrotherapy pool which is nice and warm like a bath! I think it's still Tuesday and Thursdays at 3 but check their website. I've used the Huggies little swimmers swim nappies, and a Zoggs reusable swim nappy - both have leaked so now I keep little oi in her actual nappy until the last minute and then swifly plonk her in the swim nappy and into the pool.

classical concerts for babies / children
oimissus replied to lucyA1308's topic in The Family Room Discussion
yes, I would love to take my 2-year-old along to this kind of thing! -
I neither sent them, nor have ever received any. A lovely idea, but I think in those early days most parents have enough to think about?!! Unless you can deputise GPs to do it? In our case, my husband texted my mum and his parents, and the domino effect was begun!

it's a Doidy cup and you can get them in John Lewis and I think bigger branches of Boots, and probably on Amazon.

what is everyone using to give milk to a 1 yr old
oimissus replied to jennyh's topic in The Family Room Discussion
hahaha, oddly my mum is far more chilled about food than drink, it's always cake-a-go-go at hers, but only water to go with it! -

amydown, I don't know if it would be a problem with your cup but I know from my mum (who is a retired children's dentist) that you shouldn't let you child go to sleep with a bottle of milk as milk can pool in their mouth and cause damage to their teeth from the sugar in the milk. -

bog standard sippy cup, took a while to get her used to it, but she never took a bottle (unfortunately!) so didn't have that issue. I think a lot of little ones still have their milk in a bottle for quite a while, but as long as they're learning to use a cup for water I don't think it's a problem. I don't want to use an open cup for milk yet as it would reek if she spilt it, and she does have a tendency to wave the cup about and try to feed her toys. -
the Ikea one doesn't fold flat (unless it's changed since I bought mine about 18 months ago).

on a practical note, if your daughter is hating her car seat and about to grow out of it, might it be worth getting the next size up now? Or, as someone else suggested, look into getting the train - much easier to keep a child entertained! I know that these things can seem such a hassle when you have a little one, but it is just one day and I'm sure it'll be very appreciated. I've found that family things are much more important now I have a child (though I always liked them before) - my daughter's christening was a perfect family day. And grandparents won't be around forever. You said they're nice but irritating - focus on the nice bit - these may be the grandparents who'll take the children off your hands for a welcome break in years to come!

New mum and dad/newborn present advice please!
oimissus replied to karen3's topic in The Family Room Discussion
we were given one of these comforters http://www.johnlewis.com/231341223/Product.aspx and once we stopped swaddling and put our daughter into a sleeping bag, this became, and still is at aged 2, her No. 1 bedtime toy, she lies and strokes its ears. I would never have thought to buy one, but it turned out to be a top gift, and I've just bought one for my cousin. -
1 o'clock Club - Peckham Rye NEEDS SAVING
oimissus replied to aceface's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Aceface "disappointed by the lack of enthusiasm, support and concern the threat of this closure is having." I never use 1 o'clock clubs, simply because my 2 year old is asleep when they take place (this has been the case since she turned 1). She sleeps between 1/1.30 - 3/3.30, so even if we weren't quite a walk from any 1 o'clock club (we're a good half hour fast walk at least from this one, and our closer one has closed already), we would never use it - and talking to NCT friends with similar aged children, they are the same - the clubs are open when the children are asleep. 3.30, maybe 3 if it's close, is the earliest I can get to anything in the afternoon. I feel that they are mainly geared up to those with a very little one and / or an older child who has dropped their lunchtime nap - which is of course fair enough - but for those with just 1 pre-school child, there is pretty much bugger all to do in the afternoons (presumably because places don't think it's worth doing things later because of the school run). If they could be persuaded to lengthen their opening hours that might help in the fight to save it? -

Double glazing (Rehau) effect on ED property price
oimissus replied to Israphale's topic in The Lounge
?10000 actually doesn't sound too bad to me for a whole house, we have recently been quoted ?8000 just for our front 3 windows (we have the additional problem of having the original shutters downstairs which we want to keep), from 2 different places. We can't afford this at all so we're thinking of just getting new single glazed, which frankly can't be worse that the ones we have which are in a terrible state! -

Beagle - that looks a great recipe. You wouldn't know how that quantity of dried chickpeas translates to canned? - I absolutely cannot be arsed with soaking chickpeas overnight blah blah -
would it be worth everyone emailing the chairman of the TLERA, so they realise the depth of people's unhappiness at this decision? I have no connection either to the area or this nursery but it all seems pretty awful to me and I'd be happy to add my name to any list of objectors. As others have said, comments on the SE23 forum have been pretty vicious. As I understand it a lot of these residents are of long standing and are perhaps of the older generation, but they are not living in a retirement village (perhaps they should?!), whatever they think - they are living in London, FFS!

I like the fact that this has had 463 views since it went up at midday . . .

Great new childrens' books section in Cheners Bookshop!
oimissus replied to Sue's topic in The Family Room Discussion
that's fantastic news, I really like this bookshop, they have a good selection of children's books but my daughter is forever yanking other (non-kids) books of the shelves when I'm browsing! -
not something I read a lot of but I thought England's Dreaming by Jon Savage (about punk) and John Peel's autobiography were both fantastic.

First beaker for milk? Recommendations please!
oimissus replied to emza78's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I've ended up using a bog standard sippy cup, different colour from her water cup - but my daughter never took a bottle so didn't have that particular dilemma. It did take a long while, and several different purchases, to drink from the cup (any cup!), but we got there in the end. -
Baby-friendly accommodation in Sicily?
oimissus replied to Bellenden Belle's topic in The Family Room Discussion
a long long time ago, we went as children (not babies though) 3 times to Sicily, it is a wonderful and very child friendly place. We stayed twice in Taormina (at a place called the Hotel Belvedere, which had a palm tree in the middle of the swimming pool) and once in Cefalu (during the mafia trials in the 80s, our hotel was full of buff policemen who'd be brought in from the mainland - I digress). I can't give you any specific recommendations, other than I recall it being pretty pricy, but it is just beautiful. At the restaurants we went to, my sister and I were doted on by the staff and in one place allowed to watch our lunch being made! When our budget allows I would love to take my husband and daughter there so lots of luck! -
ah, I see, no, we didn't use an extra base, just seatbelts too.

we have a 2002 3 door Ford Ka and we have a Maxi Cosi forward facing seat (can't remember exact style name), fits fine and OK to get our 2 year old in and out of (she went into it when she was about 1), Halfords on the Old Kent Road helped us and fitted it, maybe go the them for some advice, they were very helpful. I'd think if it can fit in a Ka it would fit in a Focus. Didn't realise some weren't suitable for a 3 door car.

that's a good point about the Victoria, I wonder if they'd be up for having their room used for Tippee Toes - will suggest it to Kim.

aye, fair point! Just feeling very cross about the class being cancelled . . . Will wait to hear what JB comes back with.
