  1. yes - and that's added to the fact that the EHRC were giving out incorrect information about the Equality Act - how many schools will have gone there for advice and have no idea that what they were given was wrong? The regulatory capture is a real scandal.
  2. The Department for Education has finally taken note of what is being taught in schools and has issued new guidance, which is very good news as it should keep the likes of Mermaids, GIRES and Stonewall out of our children's school, as well as those peddling other inappropriate materials. https://schoolsweek.co.uk/cancel-culture-gender-stereotypes-and-extreme-political-stances-what-new-dfe-guidance-says-about-rse/
  3. Does anyone know how the waiting lists are ordered? Is it by distance or by preference? Do people who live closer get on the waiting list first, or those who've put the school as their first choice? And does Kingsdale operate its' own system as it's a lottery and a banding test? Also, if anyone has a child at Charter ED, how are they finding it? Trying to get an idea of this school as they've not exactly gone all out on providing parents with much of a feel for the school, in person or virtual! thanks
  4. Can anyone let me know how to dispose of shredded paper? I?m clearing out my mum?s house and am going to end up with about 2 bin liners worth of shredded paper. Thanks
  5. Sometimes I think I must live in a parallel universe to the EDF. I?ve been to the DKH Sainsbo?s several times since the rules came in and haven?t seen any customers not wearing a mask, and quite a lot of the staff wearing them. Same for the small one on Peckham Road.
  6. Seriously? It's a 2 day heatwave, many parents will be working themselves so can't just down tools and go to the park. The children are plodding through months of social isolation and boring monotonous schoolwork delivered by non-professionals (ie their parents) and you're moaning because they're out in the garden having fun? Put some headphones on or move to a different room.
  7. the Villa parent is the same as the Lyndhurst parent.
  8. trinidad - I live about 10 minutes from Peckham Rye station. We've had controlled parking for about 2 years. It was extraordinary how the streets emptied of cars once it was introduced, it appeared that nearly half the cars parked on our road did not belong to residents. Obviously I would prefer not to have to pay for it but given the very obvious positive impact it has had I am happy to do so. I would have preferred it if our road could have been 12 - 2pm, rather than 8.30 - 6.30 However, I agree that Southwark do have a war on cars, the continued closure of the bridge on Camberwell Grove being a case in point (making Champion Hill one way is another) but I don't have an issue with this.
  9. I know that the EDF is in general averse to controlled parking but I and my neighbours love it, since it was introduced where we are the streets have been much less crowded and it's actually possible to park on your own road - even outside your own house! Something that rarely happened beforehand. I haven't had to do a visitor's permit for ages but it was no problem to arrange. And I would dispute that dropping the kids to school by car is valid - given you have to live pretty close to your children's school I can't think of many good reasons why you wouldn't be walking them to school. Staff driving is something else, however... I have plenty of issues with the council about their hatred of cars but this one I can totally see, and reap, the benefit of.
  10. Has anyone ever done a Gambado?s party for an older child? DD will be 9 and has said she would like this but I?ve only ever been to parties up to about 5 years old. There wouldn?t be that many children, maybe about 8. The other thing is that she is veggie but none of the other children are but from what 8 can see you either have to order all veggie food or all non-veggie food, you can?t just get the veggie option for the veggie child. Is that the case? I?m really not sure about it but she?s said for a while now this is what she like! Any info gratefully received.
  11. I think it?s brilliant that there?s a playground suitable for older kids - my daughter is 8 and has pretty much outgrown all the local playgrounds so really looking forward to taking her here. The area is very well served for playgrounds for younger children so I don?t think anyone?s really got anything to complain about!
  12. Thanks for this info. North Dulwich is one of the packs we're interested in. In a way 6 is better than 5.30. Can you park near that one - if it's that late I'm going to need to drive and I think parking is an issue at our first choice (Denamrk Place). Nunhead, how can you find out that kind of info? miss Oi would definitely prefer something more active, though she does like a bit of craft, and I'm crap at it, so that could be win-win. Thanks for this info, very helpful for a brownie novice!
  13. Do Brownie packs always meet at around 5.30 after school? I've heard back from one near Miss Oi's school (but not that close to home) to this effect, and it would be really inconvenient for us! But is this the same for all packs in the area? Off the top of my head I think the other two I put in the form were in North Dulwich and Herne Hill. Any info about Brownies very gratefully received. I always wanted to do brownies but never did so v keen for Miss Oi to have a go.
  14. Southwark Gymnastics are based at Camberwell Leisure Centre and Brunswick Park Primary School, they do sessions for this age.
  15. thanks both. I've been to winter parties at the Herne and my experience was that it was very cold in there! Plus at least 3 children (including my daughter) are veggie and there was no veggie option other than just a plate of chips at the parties I went to, though that might have changed. I don't want to fork out for their food anyway, tbh, money is quite tight right now. That kind of size is good though.
  16. thanks both. It's for 5 and 6 year olds. Both those suggestions are a bit far away from us - the nearest place to us would be the baptist church on Bushey Hill Road but I worry that we'd be rattling around in there! But maybe they'd just like being able to race around in a nice big space.
  17. can anyone recommend a small venue for around 16 children? Numbers are just a few too many for our house, but we won't be getting an entertainer or anything so we just need a small, not-too-expensive place to hold our DIY party in. Peckham/Camberwell. Thanks!
  18. veggie sweets - I tend to stick to chocolates. So in our trick or treat bowl we have lots of chocolate skeletons, eyeballs, spooky choc coins, that kind of thing. Choc buttons or coins in between pass-the-parcel layers. Sandwiches are always cheese or jam. That list isn't a surprise for us, unfortunately. One thing I find a total bugger is buying any kind of chocolate pudding (like an Aero mousse or simeilar) - none are veggie. You can now buy veggie pesto, though - Sacla have brought one out which is a handy store cupboard staple for us, as we were having to make our own - which is lovely, but not speedy or especially cheap! (Sainsbo's basic fake parmesan is veggie).
  19. at aged 3 1/2 I think most children would be witches, skeletons, pumpkins or cats. I think it depends on whether or not you think he would mind being different from the rest? I don't think the other children would notice or comment.
  20. not an allergy but if you've got veggie children around, Haribo aren't veggie (in fact most sweets aren't).
  21. if you like architecture check out the Communist Party Headquarters, it's one of Oscar Niemeyer's very few European buildings. Very 1970s James Bond.
  22. my husband got 2 weeks full pay, plus another two weeks full pay to be taken any time before the child turns 5. An employer who only offers 3 days isn't decent and the fact that men are just accepting this isn't great either. What does your employer think about shared parental leave?
  23. Bravissimo do good bikinis etc (should you be bosom-tastic).
  24. Blah Blah Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > This is certainly true for southwark property. not in my house it's not, we own the right hand fence, it's quite clear on our deeds.
  25. there's a BBQ area in Burgess Park.
