Much as I hate to disagree with Mockers I think that if they do "get football in there" then they will just alientate the locals even more. The pub is after all quite isolated in the middle of a residential area with lots of families. The noise and cars of the little used Ivanhoe caused enough grief, the thought of more noise and more cars from a footie-fan attracting Hoopers would cause apoplexies and flying writs. To get on the right side of the locals and drum up sustainable trade they will need to sell some good food as well as beer and make it a bit more family friendly. Footie on overly large TV screens does not a well rounded and successfull community pub make.
Oh, the cost of those huge Irish weddings. I have just been talking to a colleague about the hugeness of the whole thing. The sandwiches and tea at 3 am are a particularly good touch to keep you going. Of course the non-Irish contingent will need to be instructed to learn a song. But you knew that already.
I am increasingly feeling a little exposed with my all too public posting name. So after much grovelling on my behalf the Administrator has allowed me exceptional leave to change my posting name. So, from this afternoon on I will known as "Michael Palaeologus". Cheers
Ironically, I wont be there as I am on holiday in France. How about the Gowlett? Its round the corner from Goose Green, its a big pub with a beer garden and they are happy to reserve an area for large groups.
Yup. The idea was for an introductory message to new members about the forum and its doings: Brief history Purpose of the various areas Culture i.e. we are nice to each other even in disagreement The traditional greeting and response The EDF Drinkie Stuff
I get paid on the 25th, so there you go! The first Friday of the month seems to be as good a day as any and something mid- month would be bad for everybody - except Jah Lush!
*Still mourning the lack of DM - feel hollow and empty* *Need tea and toasted bagel to recover - why, why, WHY !!!???* *Stagger off to bed, wont sleep mind* *...and no Shambles - NO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!* *Its just so wrong*
After much lubricated discussion the following is proposed: EDF drinkies on the FIRST FRIDAY OF EVERY MONTH - that ensures that the salaried will have been paid in the previous 7 days. Venues to rotate - happy to accept offers and inducements from local hostelries that will attract 20 plus civilised heavy drinkers to your establishments with the resulting follow on business and positive public discussion :)-D Georgia and I are happy to coordinate - within reason. Thoughts?
You can type! In your condition - what an amazing man! Great evening. Steph, you have to start that "Has anybody got ...." thread! Shambles? DM, your secret is out.
My Dad used to swearny soapy water and encouraged Ladybirds - and of course they are both organic. Talk to them sternly Mark! Remember you are British.
I cannot help a touch of paranoia that I and my mate Trev will be the only ones there what with outrageous excuses such as "stag nights" being banded around. Whats wrong with an evening of ales and finally, a kebab to celebrate the end of your singleton days, hmmm?
You can renew your Oystercard in the newsagents next to the hardware store opposite the garden centre at East Dulwich station - "Mark & Sons". The advantage here is that you can do this by credit card and not get charged an extra credit card fee that the other newsagents seem to charge.
