  1. I cant speak to the state of the jakes. I didnt partake. This is very much Hibbs' department and I would not dare to interfere in her business. I am not sure that the food is quite as superlative as Mucky describes. It is good, one would be disappointed if it were otherwise at these prices. Its not orgasmic. The hygiene is good though. Apparently.
  2. Which of the LL restaurants have staff living upstairs and how do we know that the Ganapati staff dont live upstairs themselves? I have no problems with them differentiating themselves from the rest of the local curry restaurants. However they sell same-same popadoms at close to ?4 a portion (carefully broken up and piled high) and their ingredients are the same as any other curry house. Their rent must be lower and they probably pay minimum wage. I am suggesting that overall, their overheads are on a par with any other curry restaurant. There is a conceipt in selling authentic street/cafe food in frankly uncomfortable surroundings at a higher price than is nescessary to generate a reasonable margin. People go because it is different. I would go again but probably not for a year or so. People also go because they cant be bothered to walk to the Lane on a cold and wet Tuesday evening. I think local competition in Bellenden would make a difference. ED Indian/Bangladeshi Restauranteurs are you listening?
  3. Good night at Ganapati, good food and company. My thoughts are that Ganapati is somewhat expensive for what it provides. It identifies its food as being south Indian street food, but at ?36 a head, that is very expensive street food. Granted the menu is not the usual curry house menu, but the ingredients are the same, the decor is south Indian cafe stylee so attractive but basic and the rent in that part of Peckham is unlikely to be hugely inflated. So why the high prices? I guess because they can and it is a way of differentiating themselves from the competition. They are usually busy, although there were a number of empty tables yesterday. I wonder whether some competition, another Indian restaurant opening in Bellenden would bring prices down, as people would have an alternative in that part of town? Anyway, February - Lets go Swadesh as we did Mirash in December. Wednesday 29 February.
  4. Noooooooooo! Am in Ganapati. India Pale Ale is good.
  5. Looks like we are all meeting at Ganapati at 7.30.
  6. Good stuff one and all Strawbs *Oh Might Spider Killer*. We havent started to think about February yet. Where would you like to go? X
  7. OK MM - see you in the restaurant at 7.30. Who else is coming by the way?
  8. Tomorrow everybody! The table is booked for 7.30pm, with dire warnings if we are late. Meet at the Victoria at 6.45 for those that want to? Who's coming?
  9. Ganapati's details can be found here. We could meet in the Victoria beforehand.
  10. If you are taking away, then a Nero or Starbucks cup with insulating cuff is practical. If you are drinking in their is the comfort of familiar surroundings and product wherever yu may be. I think most people have a coffee for many reasons, the quality and taste sensation is only one of these. For me Nero is convenient, parked as it is on the Lane. I cant be faffed wandering around the backstreets to find an indie coffee shop. I am working from home today and at some point will try out Jacks.
  11. Pleasure. And, because its a more contentious and so interesting coffee chain than any other?
  12. Big recycling bins at Sainsburys?
  13. Starbucks or Foxtons? You decide ....
  14. There is an alot of coffee snobbery to be found. It is usually to be found in those who spit on Supermarkets and prefer their vegetables dirty and expensive. I like Starbucks, its a non challenging brew that I am happy to drink when I have no time for masturbatory reflections on the melange of taste sensations to be found in my low fat cappucino. Which is most of the time. I like Nero to, every so often they give me a free coffee, when I have enough little stampy things on my special card.
  15. Liked the by-play that took place between the young Morse and a young female employee of the local Newspaper. Newspaper person "Havent we met before?" Young Morse "No, I dont think so" Newspaper person "OK, different life perhaps?" The Newspaper person was played by John Thaw's daughter. Nice.
  16. Having been away over the holiday I say down and watched *Sherlock* and *Endeavour" last night, back to back. Thoroughly enjoyed both. I too hope that *Endeavour* becomes a series.

  19. I have sent an email booking a table for 10. A word of caution, I tried using the online booking tool on their website but it wouldnt take the booking. I hope that this is a glitch and that we will be OK. It will have to be first come first serve I think. So far we have: Allycat and Floating Onion Hibbs Mathilda Mucky Mick Mac Me

  21. OR we could try Ganapati - although we will be limited to a table of 10. Which is about what we usually get. Could those Curry Clubbers not sozzled or all mince-pied out let me have thoughts? Ta
