  1. Because it's an amazing human feat that especially those among us who cycle (at half the speed) can appreciate. Technically too, it's fascinating if you're interested in the training, the psychology, the stamina, the aerodynamics. And then there is the Wiggo effect, as you say. I doubt everyone watched every single second of it, but I'm sure many people found it exciting and inspirational.

There's hardly anyone in that place whenever I walk past. There's another retail space that's crying out to be turned into a productive shop, restaurant, or... well... anything really. Anything except an estate agents.
  4. I miss RPC's posts. Could someone with the same wit and humanity please impersonate him/her? On the subject of Iceland, I shall miss it too even though I didn't use it much.
  5. I have a Mark V Golf, and the dashboard lights up more than an overdecorated Christmas tree. The entire electrical system seems terribly fragile. Hawley, if I were you, I'd get a friendly car mechanic to give the brakes a quick once-over and reset the dashboard light. And then read the other thread about buying a new or secondhand car...

  7. Nice summary, littlep. The bit about having Southwark's own party wall surveyor handle your side too is key - no possibility of misunderstandings, mis-communications, and disagreements between surveyors, so overall a smoother ride and probably slightly lower costs too. An earlier post recommends a Southwark-supplied document that guides you through the party wall legal process (and the associated 6-metre process, I think it's called). A word of caution for anyone considering that. If it's the same doc we used, created by John Prescott when he headed the Office of the Prime Minister about 10 years ago, beware that some of the details in it are incorrect. We relied on that doc for a legal matter in the small claims court. The case turned on one of those details, and we lost because the doc was wrong - well, insufficiently precise compared with the Party Wall Act 1996 might be kinder... A small point, but one that's always riled so I thought I'd mention in case it helps.
  8. Happened to me too, sandnot. It was a young kid, not an adult, and I didn't think it was suspicious. The only weird thing was the time. He rang the doorbell after 10pm!
  9. Fence-sitting required on such a sensitive subject. Dildo or dildon't.
  10. I'm fairly sure a few years ago you could park down only one side of Bellenden Rd. The Council tried this for a while but soon reverted, presumably after pressure from shop owners.
