  1. Huzzah, Is there an Olympic sport I could take up at 43? Surely the middle aged can be inspired too!
  2. My son was exposed to it on numerous occasions, but he only caught it recently at school, age 7. He literally had about 20 spots, and wasn't ill at all. I used the Poxclin mousse, a bit expensive but it did the trick.
  3. We visited the pool and sandpit twice last week, but by mid afternoon on both days the place was filthy. Bins overflowing with picnic leftovers and nappies on the ground. I'm dismayed how easily people trash their immediate environment without a care in the world. Though I think Lambeth council should provide larger bins/recycling facilities next to such a busy area, but would anyone bother to walk a few extra metres to use them I wonder. I absolutely agree about the loo situation, we walked up to the ones by Brockwell Hall, and they were dreadful, sinks blocked and overflowing, so impossible for anyone to wash their hands. The children however, were having a fabulous time, though I did wonder how the toddlers managed amongst the older kids who were charging around with giant water pistols, spraying everyone in sight, I got caught in the cross fire loads of times!
  4. I've noticed a repeat offender when I walk my child to school. Dog likes to dump a big poo on the grass alongside Goose Green playground, the owner seems to pretend that she hasn't noticed, looks away and chats to other parents. Last week I drew her attention to her dog's mess and she made a half hearted attempt to rummage in her pockets for a bag, though it was obvious that she didn't have one.
  5. I feel a bit daft, walked from East Dulwich to Elephant & Castle this morning - 70mins! Usually take the 63/363, but assumed they weren't running after checking the list.
  6. I've also used the guys in the digital photo shop on Lordship lane, great photo at the first attempt, would recommend.
  7. I may be entirely wrong, but when I checked the route a couple of weeks ago, the nearest place to East Dulwich to see the torch, was going to be Crystal Palace Park on July 23rd. Though perhaps more details have been added since...
  8. The Prince Regent or The Lido Cafe
  9. Brixton has a lift from street level to the ticket hall, then a short escalator, which is manageable with a light buggy. You'll also have to use escalators at Oxford Street, and a few steps up to street level. I've done this route many times with a buggy, and I wouldn't say it's a nightmare, people always stop and help if you're struggling up the steps. Obviously avoid rush hour if you can!
  10. My son was observed for two years, and I agree with melbourne groover, it was a really enjoyable process. I've also been an observer as part of my psychotherapy training, and it was by far the most satisfying part of my studies!
  11. I've been going to Brockwell Park fireworks for the last decade at least, and I only recall music two years ago, which wasn't that great, more of a background annoyance really. Last night on the other hand, there was an attempt to choreograph the display, which worked pretty well. Have to agree to disagree over the length, I thought it had finished after 25, but then the finale started up. It was very busy, I hope everyone managed to make it on time, the 37 isn't to be relied upon at the best of times, and a 30 minute walk would have been a bit long for some.
  12. I agree, Brockwell Park fireworks were fantastic last night. As it was the 200 year anniversary of Brockwell Hall, they were extra special - set to music and lasting 30 mins!
  13. My mum loved fancy dress competitions, one time when aged about 7, I had to be 'A well bread lady' Basically just 30 of those waxed bread wrappers that were used in the 70's, pinned to my dress
  14. I've sent you a PM.
  15. Like Helen GV, fanny and willy
  16. Sudocrem is great for sunburn
  17. Coach Beth You comment on the 'startling lack of diversity at St John's in comparison with other local schools in the area' The school has a very mixed intake across all years, no different to any of the other local schools in my opinion, what a mis-informed statement.
  18. My child attended this nursery 18 months ago, the majority of staff were lovely, though the premises were a bit neglected. However at the time we left, quite a bit of refurbishment was taking place and I thought the place was improving. Just my opinion, but I believe that group daycare isn't ideal for small children, ie under 3s, and this Upland Road branch seemed better suited to pre-schoolers.
  19. The pool temperature does vary considerably, mostly it's ok, but I've had a couple of visits where it has been freezing. A recent Friday evening for example, it was so cold I couldn't stay in with my child who usually doesn't mind if it's a bit chilly. I think it's fine if you're swimming lengths, but not enjoyable if bobbing around with a non swimmer. There must be a reason why they can't maintain a consistent temperature.
  20. I was also wondering about single parent meet ups, and found this thread after a quick search. I'm newish to the world of single parenting, and it would be great to meet others in a similar situation.
  21. That's great news. The meeting I referred to is on June 2nd at Harris Academy on Homestall Rd - 7pm. The police will be present to discuss security issues, and Altima Court residents are invited to attend.
  22. Sorry to hear this, a really horrible experience. I've lived in this building for about 4.5 years, and unfortunately there have been a number of incidents involving thefts and break ins. I wonder if because the development is gated at the back, residents have a false sense of security - I don't necessarily mean you, but for example last summer our neighbours on the first floor were burgled, however they had left their french doors unlocked, and the thief/thieves had climbed up onto their balcony with relative ease and gained entry. Foolishly we used to leave our ground floor doors open on summer nights before this incident, but not anymore! There is a meeting with the police on June 2nd with regard to Altima Court, I will check details and let you know more, though I suspect the notification may have been posted in response to your break in and you will be aware.
  23. By way of reassurance, when my very quiet little boy started school, he didn't know anyone either, all of his NCT and nursery friends were going to other schools. However he managed just fine, small children seem to make friends pretty easily and boys somehow rub along together without being too concerned with having a best friend. (Just my experience of course!) But obviously a nice idea to know a few friendly faces beforehand.
  24. I haven't tried beetroot though, will give it a go this Easter, thanks for the tip.
  25. When growing up, we used to hard boil the eggs, but wrap them in layers of onion peelings first, followed by a couple of layers of newspaper tied tightly around with string. We added a few more onion peelings into the pan and boiled for 10/15 mins. The results were lovely, marbled patterns in deep red, orange and yellow, we used to keep them for about a week before eating them, or rolling them down the biggest hill on Easter Sunday. I think that is a northern tradition however, have yet to meet anyone else who did the same!
