  2. or a really radical suggestion - don't buy products in tetrapacks... most liquids can be bought in plastic / glass bottles instead that seem to be mopre recyclable, suggesting that either the cost is lower or the returns greater
  3. AllforNun Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- not sure if anyone one has noticed but there are no direct links from Peckham, Queens road, Nunhead etc into the promised land that is East Dulwich, ...er the train goes from Queen's Road to Peckham Rye then to East Dulwich in about 5 mins flat; and the 484 bus goes from Nunhead to East Dulwich in a pretty straight line over Rye common.....?
  4. if you let the BTP know, they could probably 'meet him off the train' at London Bridge as they have an office there

This happened to me at work a few years back when my employer allegedly failed to fix a leaky roof - I was the poor sod who had to go to court and was at one point (theoretically) facing prison for contempt of court - not much fun and I certainly kicked the maintenance manager's arse to get it sorted!
  6. I sold my flat about 3-4 years ago (with Bushells) and whilst doing the rounds of the local estate agents to view houses Acorn were by far the most obnoxious - I think it was pretty much summed up in their questioning of my choice of Bushells as sales agent - quote 'we call them Bastards at Acorn' - needeless to say I did no more viewings qith them. If they slag off the competition that much I don't want them getting any of my cash!
  7. I've online banked with NatWest for years - never a problem My cashpoint card did get cloned a few years back and the service was excellent - massively extended overdraft whilst it was resolved, no charges and all sorted within a few weeks The phone service is great too - you never have to speak to more than one person - who is (get this) actually in your branch! (either that or they've employed lots of people with the right accent for the north west Cheshire branch that I branch at from my childhood)

  9. Quickest routes I've found are: any bus to Camberwell then 36 or 436 to Paddington - it's pretty much bus lanes all the way so quicker than you might think; otherwise 176 or 40 to Elephant & Castle then tube to Paddington
  10. Before Caffe Nero opened (pleeeeease don't debate whether this was a good or bad thing again), Paddy Power applied for a licence to open up in that space, but got turned down (I believe) because there were already enough bookies in the area - I think the council was applying a 'one-in, one-out' policy - William Hill was presumably ok because they simply relocated; so presumably the same rule would apply to the Woolwich site - unless Ladbrokes are planning to relocate from near Nero?
  11. I swear by online film rental through amazon or lovefilm - loads of choice, hardly ever any out-of-stock issues, very cheap and no late fees!
  12. No worries! A few more points - it's Network Rail not National Rail (which is a wholly different body); they are undertaking the consultation because they have a statutory obligation to do so, to ensure that the limited supply of taxpayers money is spent on those parts of the network where it can really do benefit rather than simply to maintain services because they have always been there. As a regular user of the Victoria - London Bridge service in rush hour, even with just two carriages it is clear that on most days there are seats available suggesting that it is not the most heavily used service. By comparison the Dartford service, which also stops at Denmark Hill, is invariably packed to bursting despite having 8 carriages (or more) suggesting that this service is of more use to the wider community - hence the reason that there is no plan to curtail this service in the consultation. Perhaps a more in depth reading of the document would be beneficial.....?

  15. Northern Rock is about the safest place you could possibly put your money right now - it's backed by the Bank of England! Buy shares in it I say - sure to be bought out soon for a profit

    Pink drinks

yep - up for trying it again - perhaps a Thursday would be more successful than Mondays?
  17. without wishing to knock these guys' service (which sounds great); Southwark Council will collect most types of large waste for free if you phone them up - broken furniture, piles of wood, old carpets etc
  18. This is very exciting - I have never seen a thread on here that states 'contains rudeness' - i was drawn to it instantly! Maybe there should be a new x-rated section?? Going back to the original post, as a gayer I always applaud PDAs from other gayers - not sure I'd have the guts myself on Lordship Lane - though I did snog my (then) bloke in Liquorish last year and no-one batted an eyelid
  19. Brendan Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > the blue waste paper bag. i don't think they can be recycled because of the glue in the spine there's an organisation called www.bookcrossing.com - basically you tag your books with a unique ID then leave them somewhere like a cafe or park bench, when someone picks them up they can log on to tinternet and you can see how far round the world your book has gone!! alternatively you could donate to an old folks home, or hospital
  20. Bushells were brillant when i bought my flat through them and just as good when i sold through them 3 years later - the staff are really friendly and very 'human' in the way they dealt with me
  21. you could try the 'gay drinks' at the Rye next Monday - see the thread in the Lounge
  22. i heard that it was the pub where the great train robbers celebrated after the event - anyone else heard that?

That's nothing Sweden was still doing this until the early 1970s (if I remember correctly - could have been Norway or Finland)
  24. having failed miserably as organiser (I blame the rain) - I'd love to come along as simply an attendee! When were you thinking of?
