Gay marriage? Let's have a referendum
???? replied to silverfox's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Anyway, in terms of the original propsal in the EDF Referendum it looks like For a referendum - Silverfox Against - Everyone else -
Although I do have to admit that it is less tasteless watching people trying to justify self-righteous idealism and well meaning idiocy than prejudice and exploitation. Agree with that, It's why I still tend to prefer the company of lefties to righties, despite the fact they'd have us all bankrupt before you could say Polly Tonybee :))

Keef, at the edges you are right. so people with a small non-sate pension will be affected. I think this sort of thing is inevitable with tinkering with allowances etc (see also the furore over Child Benefit) but understand why these poeple would be affected and it's unfair to a degree but many and a growing number of 'pensioners; are really pretty well set up - it's not like 20 years ago when many pensioners were people who had been through the war and were relying on state pensions solely, ans were seeing their benefits frozen and VAT put on fuel by Major's govt...now that was fucking disgusting. Basically it's Mick. Keef's, Paul and Ringos generation who are retiring right now I guess the only way round this is some kind of means tetsed benefit but that's not easy or neccessrily ideal. PS I made the point of saying Private and Public sector pensioners together BTW, on this issue at the moment there's not huge differences as most Private sector workers who are nw retired WITH a pension have a final salary pension, not all and not all of them are massive as you allude too.

It's part of my Persecution Complex* *Dr Signumnd Hugenot diagnosis

What Mick said, anyone earning 70k-120k with young families are the worst affected overall (TO BE CLEAR I mean relatively, obviously it's very decent money), going to be a few of them round here. Given London house prices etc I guess in the long term something will have to give....discretionary spending in all those nick nack shops/school fess for those that do/moving out away etc)

Brendan - the Office od Budget Responsibility produced the figures, they said there are some significant caveats but I guess I'd trust them more than someone who didn't even seem to get the very basics of the budget. Go away and read some of it thn just spouting maybe? Won't hold my breath. shhhhs I'm amazed you live where you do given your hatred of city types.... The incraesed stamp duty on ?2M+ properties and the closing of the 'company' purchasing on residential property will cover the ?1.5bn the 50% rate was actually raising, and won't give our country such a bad reputation as a place to do business. As I've saide before great jobs that they do - teachers, doctors and our army can't pay the UK's way in the world (well Eton, Harley Street and mercenaries can contribute) so sadly we have to try and keep some of those scummy, rich business people, enrtrepreneurs, wealth creators and dare I say even some bankers and even attract some foreighn ones I'll go an wash my mouth out staright away and tatoo the Guardiuan masthead on my arse in penance for even mentioning this unpleasant reality.

I spend far too much of my time hoping both teams lose RD ;-)

Express, Telegraph and Mail Chippy? Not quoting their readership age profile for any reason?

Papers largely read by older peple sticking up for a significant section of the readership shocker. If you are on a minimum state pension solely you won't be affected, it's just freezing tax allowance from earnings above ?10k back down so it's nearer to everyone's personal allowance - given that pensioners get winter fuel allowance and free travel then this is hardly mugging old grannies relying on the state pension it's just freezing personal allowance for those pensioners who earn above it. Predictable haedlines though - another emotive load of cack given that increasingly people retiring at the moment and over recent years (from both Private and Public sector jobs) have very generous final salary, index linked pensions, something future generations will only be able to dream of The other moan to expect in the longer term is the fact that this budget will make the bottom 10% poorer (in relative terms) as the raise in personal allowances will incraese the earnings of anyone in work. If you are going to reward work for the poorest workers, you're going to create a gap between them and those on benefits. That'll be hitting the Guardian front page when the lefty think tanks start doing their sums.

Anyone any experiene on challenging school allocation/transfer?
???? replied to ????'s topic in The Family Room Discussion
Hi Prickle, Transfer from Primary to Junior for child with a statement - allocation that's not (in our view) consistent with provision thus far. Feels like a wrangling between junior school and Southwark re funding/resource rather than anything to do with our child's educational or personal wellbeing. Thanks -
The tax was initially boiught in as a temporary measure to raise an extra ?3bn according to the government it has failed to do this. The government claims it isn't raising any significant revenue and has driven some very high earners away or to evasion, these are significant tax generators (45% tax on annual earnings of ?1million + adds up to an awful lot more than 50% on someone earning say ?200,000) The 50% rate is the highest in the top 20 economies - it says in an internationally competitive market AND MORE CRUCIALLY to business looking to invest in the UK (whose execs maake the decisions and will fall intoi the hiigher tax bracket). It says, the UK is a high tax environment. Nice message when we need as much foreighn investment as possible. It needs to go, unfortunately in small picture terms that means that the highest earners in the UK do get a significant tax cut which in current circumstances looks grossly unfair, and of course the left will go on and on about this but it was an ill thought out, politically motivated, impractical and long term damaging tax in the first place. The rise in tax on high value properties and 'company' sales of domestic properties makes much more sense and will bring in more revenue.

So he can stick even more dosh through his limited company tax avoidence scheme?
-
..will take some convinvcing for say Yanks ...with the exception of Gingerbeer

Is there really a significant market for this in general (let alone in SE22)? There's lot's of press coverage on all sorts of crap, don't mean much. Various random hypothesis from me. 1) Can't see many people breezing in for the whole shebang, a week maybe 2) Not sure the foreighn viositors number will be quite what we expected - ex-pats in UK and dignitaries yes but otherwise not convinced 3) SE22, hardly on the tourist map, not near a tube, infact in South London..will take some convinvcing for say Yanks

Enraged SJ? Nope, just chortling at it - I genuienely love all you smug, hypocrtical, liberal metropiltans. Nothing unites you like having your easy prejudices and 'safe ground' positions questioned. But you're becoming a too easy target - maybe I'll go an pick on the Scientologists. With my anger and wrath..oh and persecution complex :))

I don't especialy attack religions per se. I'm quite happy to state that I think it's all a load of ridiculous mumbo jumbo accross the board as I frequently have. Just observing hypocracy....

Not sure about that Fox, more likely to go to the the Drawing Room where people are as rude, offensive, slanderous and personal as they like at complete liberty ::o
