  1. ahem... Clarence: You must be out yo goddamn mind! Joe Louis is the greatest boxer that ever lived. I'll be with you boys in a minute. He was better than Cassius Clay, he was better than Sugar Ray, and that new dude, what's his name, Mike Tyson, looks like a bulldog, he was better than him too. Saul: What about Rocky Marciano? Clarence: Oh there they go. There they go, every time I start talkin 'bout boxing, a white man got to pull Rocky Marciano out their ass. That's their one, that's their one. Rocky Marciano. Rocky Marciano. Let me tell you something once and for all. Rocky Marciano was good, but compared to Joe Louis, Rocky Marciano ain't shit." Saul: He beat Joe Louis' ass. Sweets: That's right he did whoop Joe Louis' ass. Clarence: Joe Louis was seventy five years old when they fought... Saul: I don't know how old he was, but he got his ass whooped. Clarence: Joe Louis had come out of retirement to fight Rocky Marciano and he was seventy six years old. Joe Louis is always lying about his age. He lie about his age all the time. One time Frank Sinatra came in here and sat in this chair. I said Frank 'you hang out with Joe Louis, just between me and you, how old is Joe Louis.' You know what Frank told me, he said 'hey, Joe Louis is 137 years old.' A hundred and thirty-seven years old! Saul: Oh Man you ain't never meet no Frank Sinatra. Clarence: Fuck You! Fuck You! and Fuck you! Who's next? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Saul: A man has the right to change his name to vatever he vants to change it to. And if a man vants to be called Muhammad Ali, godammit this is a free country, you should respect his vishes, and call the man Muhammad Ali! Morris: His mamma call him Clay, Imma call him Clay.
  2. They all good but it's the Sexual Chocolate performance of "The Greatet Love of All" which gets me every time And the name... Sexual Chocolate
  3. people people!! Spoilers.... please be careful!
  4. Keef IS Steve Earle.. I like it
  5. He was cool as F*** And he directed the final episode And the first 2 episodes of series one And in the creator's earlier Homicde: Life on the Street err... I'm a fan Another great scene - Rawls in THAT bar in series 3 What was it.. 3 seconds long? Took me 10 minutes to recover
  6. Flicking through the channels a few days back we happened upon Coming to America and for want of lack-of-will-to-do-anything-else (feckless middle age) we decided to give it 5 minutes even though we've both seen it several times Ended up watching the whole thing. Again What's not to like?? (apart from typical 80's cheesy party ending) And the ex-boyfriend doesn't half look like a young Avon Barksdale ( I checked. It isn't)
  7. Ahhh but who is more wrong - the previous owners for ditching solid furniture and replacing it with "space age" tat or newbies with an eye for (overpriced but it's the market innit?) quality?
  8. A favourite line in Dead Set last week was when the producer of Big Brother shouted at someone and was told to treat people properly, he barked "yeah alright Shami Chakrabarti..." - it just reflected how many people hold civil liberties in low regard There is a a lot of consent being manufactured in recent years it has to be said - so no surprise to hear I'm with Brendan, Piers et al on this one...
  9. Truly this is the best "let's have Keef, Piers and Sean only" thread ever ;-) But we are enjoying it so that's the main thing Something I did like about the newspapers in 5 - How all of the major themes that dominated the first 4 series, and 5 as well, are only so much backstory to people's lives. Communities are no longer communities not just because of "the baddies" or drugs or whatever - but the things that made them communities - local schools and local papers amongst them - are no longer local. There are no roots. And when important stuff happens.. it doesn't get reported or even if it does it's "below the fold". We are all just walking dollar signs.. Errr. or am I reading too much into it?
  10. Shame is an interesting concept. As I woke up and was able to function on Saturday I felt no shame. Had I gone on to EDT and Liqourish, I suspect I was no more than 2 cocktails away from yer actual, genuine shame Jamie - I popped back to Hoopers on Saturday for the Arsenal v Man U game - the game itself and the result certainly helped but it was definitely a nice spot to watch some football with a good crowd in there too. Nice spot of lunch too The staff were extremely busy on Friday night but if Jamie gets that many in every weekend I expect he can ramp up staff numbers. Up to us I guess ;-)
  11. Yep - that's the one. I think the whole lot are being bundled with the 5 series box set And enough with the SB stuff Mr Piers ;-)
  12. Agreed it's the least good of the 5 series. The McNulty storyline barely redeemed itself and the newspaper stuff didn't bore me it just.... well the bad guy was the only bad guy who was one-dimensionally bad. The internet is full of newspaper people who love the Wire but feel the writer let his own experiences get in the way a bit and there is truth to all of that that said while the middle of series 5 was comparatively average (but relatively great) I thought the last few episodes were worth the whole thing. Snoop driving Michael to his execution only to have the tables turn and only THEN did she reveal a soft side... another great moment
  13. All this talk of guitars reminds me - in 2 weeks time when I finally have the space it's going to be wall-to-wall Rock Band and Gutar Hero World Tour round mine shhhh - don't tell Lady Mac
  14. Another thumbs up for prop Joe here Have you scene the young prop Joe scene on youtube? Why not have a look
  15. Good shout Keef Where to start tho, eh? Online I've seen plenty of best moment/character type threads so in that spirit Favourite Character (not same as nicest person obviously!) Plenty choose from - and some of them are only minor - but I thought the whole Stringer Bell arc was great and Idris Elba played him really well. And his ending, when it came was great. Favourite Scene The one that keeps sticking in my mind was the one with McNulty and Bodie in the park. the sun was shining, Baltimore looked better than the show usually portrays and a reprehensible character (he shot Wallace FFS!!) is finally realising the whole game he plays is rigged. Could he change? Just a few minutes later we found out...
  16. So the gist of the argument appears to be that because the residents of West London have been organised and petitioned successfully, we in South London suffer a little bit more? But if we in South London petition more successfully then the people in West London suffer a little bit more? Wow....solidarity brothers and sisters
  17. I believe that is you being droll MP? Adventure Bar - interesting choice.. why not
  18. I'm more worried about how I became SB?? And it was a big plot moment for be! Tom Wait's version for me - sometimes covers surpass the original but not in this case (although I love Steve Earle's version for Series 5) Cheers for the (now retroactive!) heads-up Piers - where are you watching it btw? DVD or FX?
  19. giggirl!!!!! Major Spoilers ahoy! Any chance you can edit that ,message to remove ?
  20. I've heard more about your boulevard today David Mc than I have anytime I've met you... everything ok? ;-)
  21. I was sat next to a Man U fan in Hoopers watching the game - he spent a lot of the game telling his partner and kids (all Man U from what I could tell) - "What an amazing game" End to end stuff - much better than most recent games between these two - dead jealous of you being there LadyG
  22. Tillie - I hear you were speaking to yet another household neighbour of mine late last night in the Drum?
  23. If people have allegations of wrongdoing, either state them and back them or take them of a public forum. I would politely suggest. Surely it can't be write to accuse anyone, business or person, of wrongdoing wit the benefit of anonymity? Or else I could accuse x of infidelity with y for example?
  24. I thought I was being "good" by giving the EDT a swerve but like IndieP I got in much later than I realised. A fun night with soooo many people to talk to. Great to see Hoopers so busy too
  25. you mean the "lemon grass"?? ;-)
