I'm pretty sure posting banal drivel in The Lounge increases my productivity at work. I hope it does because I'm claiming the cost of my ipad on my tax return.

Goose Green path management in peak hours
Dopamine1979 replied to Louisa's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
These suggestions are ridiculous. The simple answer is to ban children from using the path. This can be enforced by installing 'path cameras' at both ends and will have the added benefit of raising revenue for Southwark council. There are plenty of pavements around Goose Green for toddlers and young children to walk on and they can enjoy a closer view of all the cars and buses whizzing by. -

I'm guilty of that. Am I meant to store it in the pockets on my bum? I fear it will get pinched. And someone might try and steal my wallet. -

Good posts LegalBeagle. I think we're all pretty much on the same page here.

I agree Legalbeagle. Victim blaming is quite different from educating both women on how to try and keep safe and men on how to treat women with respect and avoid ambiguous situations. I remember there was an uproar about a public health poster recently which stated something along the lines of ?Women are more likely to get raped if they are drunk?. Of course the perpetrator of any crime is to blame. Any adult man or woman has the right to go out and get drunk if they wish. However given the Modus Operandi of Chad Evans and his ilk (i.e it appeared they were specifically ?hunting? for drunk/incapacitated women) I hope it wouldn?t be deemed as insensitive victim blaming to point out that this poor young woman would probably not have been targeted as the victim of this particular crime if she hadn?t been in that vulnerable condition.

How to teach Muslims about dealing with offense
Dopamine1979 replied to reggie's topic in The Lounge
I think Otta's point is that 'Inciting hatred' in terms of publication of certain offensive material would be illegal in the UK regardless of Freedom of speech. It could be argued that publishing these cartoons would fall within that category. The defence that 'it's only a joke' wouldn't stand up. -
I am not an academic but if your quest is genuine then I wish you luck Davis. If not then I must take my hat off to you as possibly the most eloquent troll in the history of the internet.

Accident on Lordship Lane / East Dulwich Grove

I avoid crossing the road at that junction like the plague and always go (slightly) out of my way to cross at the zebra crossing opposite EDT then use the traffic light crossing opposite The Bishop. I acknowledge this is harder for those with mobility issues though. -

As > happened to my then mother-in-law. You're right of course Sue. Not everyone is as sensible as you though. I think a huge part of the problem is that lots of people turn up to their GP with 'trivial ailments'. This uses up valuable appointments. This makes it harder for people like your mother-in-law to get assessed in a timely fashion. It's tempting to think that privatisation/levying a fee at the point of delivery would solve this problem but research suggests otherwise. It's called the Inverse Care Law. 'The law states that: "The availability of good medical care tends to vary inversely with the need for it in the population served. This ... operates more completely where medical care is most exposed to market forces, and less so where such exposure is reduced." (Hart, 1971).' In other words those that really need help are less likely to receive it. I'm not sure what the answer is but certainly good education of the population about what is 'normal' (e.g colds) and when to seek medical advice would be helpful.

I have been revisiting Street Fighter 2 on my X-box. I spent many of my formative years on that game and would still argue it is the greatest 2 person beat 'em up ever.
