  1. >>Don't know what "accounts" you're reading sunshine - but the ones I read said it's a mystery how we didn't win.<< Ahem...from Saturday's online Yorkshire Post:- "LEEDS UNITED are still searching for their first home league win of the season after needing a Jermaine Beckford goal to salvage a point." :))
  2. Well we're on a hiding to nothing....we got turfed out by Arsenal's "kids" in the 4th round at Bramall Lane last season - Eduardo in full pomp and looking real class (I hope his recovery is coming on well!)....and no doubt again we too will field a weakened team. I'd have preferred a minnow from 1 of the lower divisions at this stage though....Hartlepool would have been nice...or Crewe...or Leeds....:)) And Leeds did not drop 2 points at home today...they salvaged one by all accountsB)
  3. Bloody Hell!!!!
  4. But is rat poison still just warfarin these days? So the little bastards eat it and then their blood thins so much they bleed internally to death behind skirting boadrs, under floorboards etc etc? I'd go for traps....
  5. >>I'll take MU in the next round after we've beaten you lot at the Lane! << In the happy event of a home draw againts Leeds in the next round I'd expect a 1-0 win for us - Kilgallon heading in from a corner :)):)):))
  6. Arsenal 2 - 0 Newcastle Bolton 3 - 1 West Brom Everton 2 - 1 Pompey Hull 1 - 0 Wigan Boro 3 - 1 Stoke West Ham 1 - 2 Blackburn Villa 1 - 1 Pool Chelsea 2 - 0 Spurs Sunderland 2 - 1 City
  7. >>Are the Wendies not still in the competition?<< They were famously knocked out by Rotherham in the 1st round - to much hilarity and wild applause in much of South Yorks! The Rotherham fans have had a lot to put up with these past few seasons and I really hope they get a good home draw.... Alas a game between the Uniteds of Leeds & Sheffield might well attract blokes of discernment such as thee and me, but can you really see Sky going for it?! Now if Leeds draw Merde Utd that might be different....
  8. A supercilious pedant writes... It is not "the hoi polloi" we intellectually arrogant elitist snobs look down upon from our lofty heights, just hoi polloi SimonM (Who misses the glory glory days of the King's on the Rye with its his'n'hers stripper nights....now there was class!)
  9. OK enough of all this rarified Euro-bollocks B)....the draw for the third round of the Carling is at Noon on Saturday and I am confidently predicting that two out oof Leeds, Rotherham & Sheffield United are drawn against each other....
  10. I look out for the kingfisher every time I go through the Japanese Garden but, alas, no sign of it. I have seen the "African Queen" theory before - there is a neat symetry to it as C S Forester lived on Underhill of course - but I also read somewhere that they are all descended from a pair Jimi Hendrix kept in the 60's: so choose your urban myth according to taste! :))
  11. ...and according to the Council posters "A Winter's Tale" is being performed in Dulwich Park, SE1 (sic)
  12. Round the corner from Melford in Underhill, we have had up to 5 parakeets in the garden hacking merrily away at the bird feeders, which hang from the apple tree. They do not seem interested in the apples though. It is fun to watch them trying (and failing) to face down the squirrels. Anything that scares of them bastard murderin' magpies is a good thing I reckon!:)) The other day the same apple tree had two greater spotted woodpeckers hammering away at the trunk....
  13. >>the front bottom seat from The Plough to Notting Hill Gate << Ermm...??? Should I ask??? :))
  14. >>is that the "cheeky thumbs up" emoticon or the "angry finger" one?<< Yes!
  15. There's far too many to choose from!!!!>:D
  16. Colin used to put out a second team for the Carling when he was with Sheffied United, after that season we made both cup semi-finals but lost out on promotion in the play-offs final after finishing 3rd in the league. But, that said, he will be fuming after losing by that margin! Good to see Rotherham doing well too - God knows their fans need something to cheer about these days!. Now if only we can see off Huddersfield tonight it should make the draw for the next round interesting...>:D<
  17. "Hotpots and t'Rovers" are of course Lancashire - well the version of it created by Granada TV any road (I appreciate Liverpudlians find English Geography a bit hazy...). For us in God's Own County though it's flat 'ats, whippets and black pudding....
  18. >>I am not ingorant! BUT, I have thought of one potential noise problem with the Deaf thing. Loads of people shouting "Pardon, eh, what?" at 3am. << As your (somewhat tasteless) message referred to "the Deaf" with a capital "D" can I just point out none of them would be shouting "Pardon" or anything else in a loud Disco. They'd all be communicating quite happily with BSL and enjoying the music through their feet...: it's the people with "normal" hearing who'll be shouting "Pardon?" & "Eh?" etc etc in middle age having ruined their hearing by exposing it to overloud music in their "youth" (by "youth" I imagine I mean anything up to 40 and beyond...). Pete Townshend did not die before he got old, but he did to get to wear a hearing aid, as did poor John Entwhistle and a host of other 60's rock heroes... :))
  19. It was Timothy Evans who was pardoned
  20. Blackburn 3 Hull City 0 Fulham 0 Arsenal 2 Liverpool 3 Middlesbrough 1 Newcastle 2 Bolton 1 Stoke City 1 Aston Villa 3 Tottenham 2 Sunderland 1 West Brom 1 Everton 2 Man City 2 West Ham 1 Wigan Athletic 0 Chelsea 2 Portsmouth 1 Man Utd 1
  21. It was a friendly...they are always dire!
  22. ....write out 100 times "Dulwich Park is in SE21 not SE1" (see the various Southward Council posters dotted around advertising Shakespeare in the Park at the end of the month!)
  23. Not a pronunciation issue, but I do wonder why Dunstan's Grove gets an apostrophe but Dunstans Road does not..:-S
  24. ...alternatively carry a small digital camera, whip it out & begin quite ostenatiously to take photos of him. That would soon clarify his motives I'd think...
