  1. >>Some ladies known to the landlady wanted to meet SimonM............the lucky git.<< Pricks up (rat-like) ears....B)
  2. Both parks are nice in their contrasting ways. But Dulwich did not "get rid of" the aviary - it was vandalized and all the birds killed some years ago: a real sickener for everyone.
  3. It has been much improved over the past few years and, whilst not having brass bands, is well worth a visit!
  4. >>Now I feel like a Jack Daniels. It?s only 9:15<< Never fear: I feel sure that somewhere in this great empire of ours the sun is already well over the yardarm (whatever that may be!) B)
  5. I see from today's Grauniad that Waitrose is planning to open almost 200 new smaller food-only outlets in the near future....
  6. >>>Sorry to be a bore but at least this isn?t about spelling. Jack Daniels isn?t bourbon. Bourbon has to come from Kentucky (I think it?s only Kentucky). Jack is a Tennessee whiskey.:D< I also experimented with a "Southern Comfort Manhattan" - not recommended
  7. It most certainly is not expensive at all! Everything I have had has been amazing value for money, cheaper than both the Peckham Rye Cafe and all/most of the LL/NCR joints
  8. >>To quote Wikipedia, "A Manhattan is a cocktail made with whiskey, sweet vermouth, ice, and bitters<< It has to be Angostura bitters and Bourbon. I got very drunk one night at college with a friend on Jack Daniels Manhattans which I claimed to have invented that night....
  9. >>Although there are some far more pedantic people than me<< A pedant gloatingly writes:- "then I"! Cannot help with the gyms enquiry though alas....but hello anyway!
  10. I cannot believe there would be a third Tesco "convenience"(!!) store within walking distance of where I live: or a small Sainsbury's so close to the Forest Hill one....In any case hasn't the work on the ground floor of these building works been ground to a halt for a while?
  11. I too oppose them for the reasons given above. And although I know they are meant to be "temporary" I shall nonetheless be amazed if they do not remain a permanent fixture.
  12. I agree that all that is needed long-term is a pelican crossing somewhere close to the doctors' surgery (and possibly a box junction at the lights themelves). At present people leaving the surgery to get presciprions made up have a tedious detour to get to the pharmacy opposite, and the temptation is simply to cross directly. (I think the surgery staff are now doing the same to get coffee etc from Cafe 2050! :)))
  13. >>Can't we use Nominative,Accusative,Dative and Genetive Tenses like the good old days? << Those are cases not tenses....oh wait....you were being ironic right?! And it's "genitive"! SimonM ("A" level Latin, grade F)
  14. So the creme eggs and hot cross buns will be in Sainsburys any day now...:(
  15. Is that really where the name is from? :) Agree about the espresso - but the americano is outstanding too.
  16. Yes I saw him in there on Opening Day. Didn't look like a customer either!
  17. I manage a visit every week....even if I do not linger the baguettes, croissants and cake are good to take away and they also sell Monmouth espresso coffee beans!!! Lovely creamy scrambled eggs too...
  18. Enid Blyton was here for about 5 minutes I think? :))
  19. I have to agree the van drivers have always been great whichever company we used. Interestingly our Ocado man told us a couple of deliveries back how notorious ED was for having stuff nicked from the van whilst he was doing deliveries! Even the local toerag thieves are foodies! >:D<
  20. I see Hitler was also a Newcastle fan - and this one's even funnier than the Sheffield United clip! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bx7X4cgh3qI
  21. Fervently agrees!
  22. We gave up on Sainsbury's for just the reasons you cite some years ago, happily when Ocado finally reached East Dulwich. It is a rare delivery indeed from Ocado when any item is not delivered. I thought though that Sainbury's home delivery base was somewhere in the Midlands, or at any rate outside London, and had no connections with local branches? You never see the home delivery vans parked around DKH do you?
  23. It is the first I have heard of it but I am salivating already just from looking at the pictures!
  24. Got any recipes???
  25. Well I got the Everton game wrong but - *adopts modest demeanour* - got the Fulham, Man Utd & Stoke games exactly right and the results right at Villa & Newcastle....
