  3. On behalf of weirdy-beardie-speckies I do protest!
  4. >>Your summary on Sainsburys is not quite correct.<< I think it was. This was referring to the occasion several years ago when Boots opened a branch inside the DKH Sainsburys. Mr Tanna and other local chemists raised objections to this being a dispensing chemist and won the day, and good for them! There is now of course a dispensing chemist in the middle of the new Supersize DKH Sainsburys, but I;d never think of using it myself. (I have regular repeat prescriptions - some of the stuff quite expensive and you really do need the local/personal touch in this situation) Mr Tanna is now retired and sold up to the Lewis chain so I'd not have thought he still retained the same level of vested interest. I think its fair to say though that local chemists offer so much more than any Sainsburys-type system. I am not terribly objective about Mr Tanna as he was "my" chemist" before retirement and offered me an excellent level of service above and beyond the call, as it were. That said, dispensaries inside GP surgeries are generally a fine idea!
  5. I certainly remember the year she turned on the the Christmas lights in the Village - oh how we laughed! I also recall that she ordered this house whilst the Estate was still being built, so they had to vet all the builders to check no IRA sleepers were going to plant semtex under her loo.....
  6. I remember that 1983 campaign. Hughes was a beneficiary rather than an instigator or active supporter of the repugnant homophobic smear campaign against the Labour candidate, one Peter Tatchell (what became of him? :)). The canpaign was "masterminded" by assorted "old" Labour diehards like Bob Melchett. Hughes did not exactly cover himself with glory at the time but politics is a dirty business innit?
  7. So we just need the one pair of bus stops on LL then eh? >:D
  8. >>I'm just going to embalm my feet in vinegar if thats ok<< As long as it is balsamic (this is ED after all B))
  9. That's an ex-hearse, parks there all the time and is now covered in "witty" slogans ("some people are dead inside"). Owner by a club DJ or comic or summat now I believe..
  10. >> about turning Maggie's home turf into a safe Labour seat << Hardly "home turf". The Thatchers bought that house as an investment and I doubt the Woman herself spent more than a night or two there. Dennis might have enjoyed longer periods there because of the adjacent golf club...
  11. >>It is just that people seem to think that simply because we are stinking rich, it is ok to take a pop at us<< Yes. And your point? :))
  12. Myself I was somewhat reassured by how many people (the overwheleming majority for the short time I was watching) just walked past and ignored the trestle tables festooned with photocopies of scaremongering rag sheets...
  13. >>The owner is alleged to have said (again on good authority) that he spent a lot of money on furnishings and doesn't >>want the place trashed by young, out of control children. He has a point I suppose.<< Then why not put a nice big sign in the window to advertise the fact, and allow people to decide whether they wish to patronise the premises before they enter? The CPT follows a variation of this policy and consquently I have never risked going in there in dirty work clothes...:))
  14. I thought the Haka lost all its remaining credibility a few years back when, before the France v NZ game, some of the French players generally minced around a bit and blew kisses to the All blacks Corps de Ballet as they performed their risible pre-match routine...
  15. It's not so much the leaves as what the roots might do to your house foundations....
  16. >>and used Darrell and Crystal palace road as some of their location shots.<< And Upland Road. Robbie Coltrane's garage was through the arch near the Music Shop.
  17. Sainsbury's today...1 security van and 3 police cars...
  18. Announced today that Palace have appointed Colin as their manager. As he has 2 young children who will need decent schools I wonder if he will move to ED? :))
  19. Cyprus 0 Wales 3 England v Estonia 2-0 Greece v Bosnia-Herzegovina 1-0 Rep of Ireland v Germany, 0-2 Scotland v Ukraine 2-1
  20. >> What ever happened to his side kick, Saint?<< I am reminded of the old story - true or not, I don't know, maybe a Liverpudlian hereabouts can confirm? - of the poster outside one of the Liverpool churches which screamed "What will you do when Christ comes to Liverpool?!", to which some scouse wit had added in ballpoint "Move St John to inside right"
  21. 5th and 7th pics are Underhill Road: 1st one by Honor Oak Mansions looking up past the cemetery, the last one at the junction with, I think Upland, (but might be one of the others paralel)
  22. >>I'm not hugging - far too girly << But you know you really want to....:))
  23. You really should open an exhibition of these....I am still choking...
  24. >>Jumping jacks and aeroplanes? Are they mega fireworks or something<< Well....if you at the photograph at http://www.cyber-heritage.co.uk/museum/box6.jpg , there is a small jumping jack at top centre of the photo, the one looking a bit like a startled snake. They were (allegedly) dangerous because they jumped all over the place once set off. An aeroplane looked like a large banger with a strip of cardboard attached at right angles across its centre, so looked vaguely like a biplane. You stuck it on a wall and it "flew" off loudly and in a horizonal plane... Learning to cope with "dangerous" fireworks was a good toughening-up exercise and an excellent preparation for life! Eho needs 8 fingers and 2 thumbs anyway?
  25. That second one had my spluttering tea all over my keyboard.....:))
