  1. >An Islingtonian friend sent me a text today. Get Stuffed now have a polar bear and penguins! I think ED needs a >taxidermy shop just to compete. Anyone interested?< But we do nonetheless have an exciting range of stuffed creatures just up the road at the Horniman....:))
  2. >>You can get black red-squirrels, though not sure if there are many in the uk; I've seen them in Austria.<< Saw some in St Moritz once (not bragging - it was off-season there! :))
  3. I am just hoping that after last night's amazing dispay at the Emirates, and a hard game on Sunday at Anfield, Arsenal will be feeling deflated and out-of-sorts for a mere Carling Cup clash in Sheffield on Wednesday.... Well I can hope can't I? :)) Birmingham 2 Wigan 0 Chelsea 1 Man City 1 Man U 4 Boro 0 Portsmouth 2 West Ham 1 Reading 1 Newcastle 3 Sunderland 1 Fulham 0 Bolton 0 Villa 2 Derby 0 Everton 2 Liverpool 1 Arsenal 1 Spurs 1 Blackburn 2
  4. I am pretty sure Dulwich Hospital had no casualty/A & E dept as recently as the 1980's. I had dealings with this hospital from the mid 70's and even then there was a big sign at the gate warning people of the fact that King's was the nearest emergency dept.
  5. No she's the one in the hard hat carrying a trowel...:))
  6. I loved it when it first opened....when it was practically a gutted shell of a house with small dark rooms, hard seats but fantastic cakes and great coffee served in cafetieres...
  7. >>My girlfriend swears by Emily's fish bar's chips,<< Had a bag of chips from there for lunch today and I agree with her! Plus the place is spotlessly clean (despite the unprepossessing exterior) and the proprietor is friendly and cooks to order...
  8. >>As for Chener's I just finished reading a great recommendation from one of the staff. Always found them to be super-helpful.<< I have always found Chener's to be a proper book shop, unlike, say, one like Foyle's where some of the assistants might just as well be selling tins of baked beans for all their knowledge of the "product"
  9. Oh it was a photo you were after? All now becomes all too clear......B)
  10. But it was wearing a blue beret which truly damns him....:))
  11. >>Best Pub with Novelty Dog - and its a close run thing between "Clarence" at The Bishop and.... Blue at The Drum! << I keep expecting to see Oliver Reed at the other end of that dog's lead! :))
  12. >>Why are the petition people still out today outside Macey's in North Cross Road?<< That baffled me too! But in the short time I was in the vicinity I saw no takers this week...
  13. I assumed Henri...:))
  14. Dear Lady I suggest you just go to www.popbitch.com and sign yourself up (it is free) - and from there you should be able to locate the grisly evidence....
  15. >>Exercise your right to buy Amanda with a law degree, sell up<< A former Right To Buy "lawyer" writes: She'd have to wait three years before selling up, as otherwise she'd have to repay all/some of the discount...
  16. >>I've heard a theory that cats with bells just learn to move in such a way that they don't jingle until it's too late. ?Don't know whether it's true though. << It is true: they soon learn to move stealthily without a single bell clanking/ringing. We fitted our little mass murderer with three bells and since then the scores of birds we also feed in the garden have remained largely unscathed. Not rhe mice though alas. He is though the only one of 5 cats we have had over the years who distressed us - and the birds of course - in that way.
  17. From this week's Popbitch:- ----------------------------------------------------- James Nesbitt at the NZ v France match, aisle 431, row M, seat 11, wearing a pale blue beret, supporting France, telling the women around him he was an actor. -----------------------------------------------------
  18. "Come friendly bombs, and fall on Slug"....erm...perhaps not
  19. But then you'd not be a chav any more...you'd be landed gentry, voting tory, hunting foxes etc :))
  20. >>Fraudsters or Entrepreneurs?<< Fraudsters - explicity against the law as regards VAT concessions on such vehicles.
  21. >>Bus from Rye Dale to Ed station? None that are straightforward<< P13 down Underhill Road?
  22. And it was practically the unofficial staff bar for KCH & The Maudsley...
  23. >>right so :D
  24. >>Still think we need a cake shop -<< Yes. Everytime I return home to Yorkshire I am reminded what a desert London is for cake shops...Not expensive posh gateaux or boxed Mr Kipling clones, but shops with windows full of small cakes of every description.....time for another pilgramage to Betty's Tea Shop In Harrogate or Elizabeth Botham in Whitby...
  25. >>There is simply NOWHERE in ED that does decent grub to cook at home.<< Words fail me, unless by "cook" you mean "heat through in a microwave"? Shopping at any permutation of Pretty's, SMBS, Moxon's & William Rose would provide the basics for 1001 home-cooked meals far cheaper and more interesting than the overpriced and overprocessed concoctions on offer from M & S (although their creme caramels are to die for...)
