  1. >>it's a classic accompaniement to steak - should have gone straight to Sainsburys<< I could not find it in DKH Sainsbury's on my last couple of visits and assumed they had discontinued it? Where have they hidden it then?! :)) Occasionally there has been a French Farmers' market in the Dulwich Hamlet F.C. car park and one of the stalls there stocks the full Benedicta range including, of course, the delightful Bearnaise.... I really do not fancy making it myself...
  2. >> feel that michaels point about the disabled access is much more important than my rant. I would love to see a copy of >>their access statement and their risk assessment<< Oh well.....for the record I was there on a scooter around noon....and yes the front of the marquee was seriously congested and there was a neat row of parked, empty buggies to one side. Being sly and experienced in these kind of affairs I betook myself around to the rear entrance of the tent hwich was (a) gratifyingly people-free and (b) sublimely close to both Anna's oh-GOD-these-are-heavenly-let-me-die-now cake stall and the cheese guys who were also selling excellent baguettes. These two alone were worth the price of admission....oh wait....it was free I think??:)) It was busy....in many ways like trying to negotiate The Lanes in Brighton but I thought pretty damn good for a first attempt and I feel sure lesons will have been learnt (tu)
  3. That is the P.C. Hammond who was stabbed in SE22 - whilst off-duty too I might add.
  4. It was a sweet shop not a newsagents. George was very seriously stabbed indeed - by a seventeen year old as I recall - and spent many months in King's in intensive care. His kidney function was irretrievably damaged and he had to have a renal transplant after a lengthy period on dialysis.
  5. >>Studio?<< Then why don't they call it that? As things stand I suspect they are trying to flog a bus sheleter...:))
  6. I was intrigued by the 2nd item on the SE22 list - a 0 bedroom flat. How does that work?!

    re

I feared the worst when I saw the Stabbing Times (name changed to minimise the possibility of any additional sales...) placard outside the Grove Vale newsagents - "Dulwich ex-junkie wants your vote" - but thankfully the article itself inside was not at all bad, especially as it was nearly all direct quotes. You'll probably now sweep the poll!(tu)
  8. How about a purpose-built secondary school: I am sure this site is larger and altogether more suitable than the one by Peckham Rye...
  9. >>If we all allow big business to compete unfairly, which is what I would suggest Nero are doing here,<< Caffe Nero had permission to open as a coffee shop.....it's allowing people eat hot paninis which has stitched them up. The words "sledghammer" and "walnut" come to mind in the Council's wanting them to close completely...
  10. >>(Raymond) Bushell - that's five. Have I missed any? << Alexander Pritchett SimonM
  11. >>Life is Sweet was great too.<< "Liver in Lager! :)):)):))
  12. Aston Villa 2 v Arsenal 1 Blackburn 2 v Newcastle 0 Chelsea 2 v West Ham 0 Portsmouth 2 v Everton 1 Reading 1 v Middlesbrough 2 Sunderland 0 v Derby 1 Wigan 0 v Man City 2 Liverpool 3 v Bolton 0 Tottenham 2 v Birmingham 0 Man Utd 4 v Fulham 0
  13. >>Another show I'm in to and I can highly recommend is Weeds << Oh ym goodness yes! The lecture by the uncle to the young nephew on the subject of masturbation in the last series was just hilarious!....as were all the subsequent visual jokes involving snacks of bananas...:))
  14. Is Besiktas winning a good thing for Liverpool. I thought if Marseille won, then Besiktas would be out and only 2 from 3 could go forward. Now it's 2 from 4...?
  15. Well done Liverpool! But gosh what a very flattering scoreline at the finish! :))
  16. >>Being the only accessible coffee shop on LL is not a reason to allow them to stay. It's only because of their might >>that they can afford to comply, i.e. completely rebuilding the entire shop front; << Sorry that is nonsense. All the places I named in my previous posts have had substantial refurbishments/rebuildins in the past few years. If you cannot comply with the law then you should not be opening a business and Southwark should certainly at the very least be enforcing planning and associated legislation against everyone. In any case it seems to me the Council is choosing to haul Nero up on what is after all no more than a technicality simply because it is perceived as a chain and and therefore it's not poor, hard-done-by local entrepreneurs that will suffer: clearly though large numbers of its customers will be inconvenienced to some degree.
  17. >>It failed to do so and Southwark Council told them it had to apply. They applied. Southwark refused to grant it on the >>basis that LL has a 50/50 limitation on the number of retail vs cafe, bars, restaurants etc...<< I rarely use Nero but will sign their petition as a matter of principle. Nero is almost alone in all the new businesses which have sprung up along LL in the last year or two which has complied with the spirit and letter of the Disability Discrimination Act. Foxtons & Chandwlier - to name but two - got the nod from the Council Planning Dept whilst blithely ignoring provisions for reasonable access to their premises. Nero is the only accessible coffee shop on Lordship Lane. If the Council wants to demonstrate how tough and fearless it is then it should enforce all planning rules and not just this pitiful ,crowd-pleasing, anti-chain gesture. If they are going to stand up to Nero then they should at least be consistent. It could start with the EDT, the Bkack Cherry, The Bishop...and look I have obly reached the first junction! :))
  18. Part of Underhill Road - from the junction at Belvoir Road about 200 metres north - has been taped off to traffic all day. from very early this morning to late this afternoon. I saw what looked like three SOCOs (in white overalls) leaving the house late this morning and police have been out on the road all day. I have already had the door-to-door so this incident is obviously much more than just a burglary - I just hope noone has been seriously hurt...

Not liked it nearly as much since Keeley Hawes (once of ED) left...B)
  22. Sounds like "DeathWish SE22" to me...:))
  23. Will children be allowed on the grass near the Chandelier stall? B)
  24. Two hours without a break eh? Sounds like a pilot...
  25. >>Oh, and they haven't won a league title since I've supported them, think I'm bad luck.<< Yeah...same with me and Sheffield United! :)):)):))
