New advice: swaddling with the arms OUT?? What's the point?
Cora replied to Sanne Panne's topic in The Family Room Discussion
We swaddled alot with arms loosely swaddled....my feeling was that the body swaddling still gave a tight security around the body while the baby still had hands to suck on and learn to comfort himself...I also found a swaddled baby easier to lift and position and put back in the cot in the middle of the night -
anyone else getting internet connection probs in ED area?
Cora replied to Karrie's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Just spoke again to Talk Talk to say I cannot get on the internet in the evenings and that it seems to be an area wide problem but they insist it's just my equipment......so frustrating....wasting my time.. -
anyone else getting internet connection probs in ED area?
Cora replied to Karrie's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The last four of five evenings I have had problems with my Talk Talk wireless connection between about 7 and 8 pm. Spoke to them tonight.....hoping they will have logged the problem?! -
I think this is so draconion (spelling?) - part of what makes ED feel local and friendly are these adhoc sales, requests for help etc...it certainly doesn't blight the area (although I agree that organisers should take them down after the event).....reminds me of the aggressive 'catch them out' parking enforcements - not really serving the community we live in...

Yes, If I were her I would just ensure I never sat for them again..They're crazy to treat someone as precious to them like this..It will be them that loses out in the end for not appreciating her and treating her properly - I'm sure there are plenty of childcare jobs around, she just needs to get her name out there....

Where do 3 and 4 year olds hang out in SE22 and SE23?
Cora replied to sglanzer's topic in The Family Room Discussion
I'm up for a meeting of 3/4 yr olds in the afternoon! Pm me if you decide to meet up East Dulwich way..... (Dulwich Park, Horniman Sands, Wildlife Garden etc)...My experience is that there is not that much organised stuff for this age group. We just tend to meet up with friends - but my 3yr old, being the middle one, could do with some more mates of his own. -

I thought my 3yr old might have German measles last week and like you was diagnosed with a viral rash - The Dr pointed out that as he had had his MMR this covered Rubella (German Measles) - hadn't really clicked it covered this thought it was just measles. I too was worried about pregnant friends but was assured it was very unlikely that a pregnant woman is not already immune to Rubella.

Primary school place allocation chaos has started!
Cora replied to tallgirl's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Tor, I know it's so scary and emotional when you want to provide the best for your child and you're not in total control of the choices but please feel reassured by the fact that the large majority of primary schools in this area are fine/good - I cannot think offhand of any so called 'sink' schools. You may not be able to walk to your nearest school straight away but the alternative should not be a disaster and remember the waiting lists do move and you may find yourself torn in the future of staying at school farther away that your child loves or moving them nearer because it makes life easier/was what you had planned.....that will be my dilemma should/when we reach the top of the waiting list....as a result I no-longer check where I am on the waiting list as I do not want to make that decision! -

But you didn't get in because there were more people that lived even nearer than you ie within 400 metres or who had siblings at the school - What would you want the school or council to do, make the school bigger? If so at what point do they stop building/adding on? -

Peter John I don't get this - so everyone should just apply for the top 4 schools in the area and expect to get in - surely logistically that just doesn't work? 175 across the borough didn't get into their top 4 choices out of how many? If the decision is unfair against the criteria set-out then all of these will win their appeals won't they? And won't a large number of these get into their preferred schools after the shake-down? I do agree that Southwark should copy Lewisham's letter's of rejection though (although sent in one envelope instead of one per school choice) as I think it explains the decision and lets parents know why they haven't got their choice. It prevents feelings of random decisions. I applied to 4 schools in Lewisham, didn't get into any but knew straight away why. It was depressing but fair enough... I guess where I'm coming from is that not everyone can get into their nearest school as the area is just overpopulated with kids but the focus should be in ensuring that ALL schools are attractive to parents and that parents have to be realistic in their expectations. -

Prdarling, does the P4 pass somewhere near buds if so it stops 5 mins from Bessemer on Red Post Hill then you can walk 10mins through to the station via Sainsbury's. Bessemer early years is fantastic and has much more outdoor space than all these poor schools like Heber and Goodrich that keep having to squeeze more kids in. -

help needed- applying to schools im very confused
Cora replied to ludoscotts's topic in The Family Room Discussion
From memory you will apply the autumn she is 4 with the deadline around the January; to hear where you have a place around May and start in the Sept. -
Is this about Surestart money being targeted to those with most 'need' - I fear it might be......If so it really winds me up - all parents need support and being a parent is one thing that brings people together regardless of background. Surestart sessions have been a godsend for me and although my background would be considered 'middle-class' my children would never have had the start they've had in life had it not been for Surestart.... I fear we may find these exclusive restrictions popping up more and more....

SDO club may have changed age range but my son certainly did it aged four. I think they have the insurance, it just depends on how independent the child is ie are they happy that most of the other children will be a bit older than them.

The Saturday drop off club at Dulwich Sports Club is excellent and they do holiday clubs too. Should be able to contact them by searching on the forum.
