  1. When we go shopping hubby and I wear visors as I have to rely on lip reading. I wear a mask when shopping alone but having a conversation with a shop assistant wearing a mask is a case of pot luck as with limited hearing I have to ask them repeatedly to speak again
  2. Please see below two Covid-19 related consultations. The first one has been jointly developed by NHS South East London Clinical Commissioning Group, Improving Health Limited and Quay Health Solutions. The second consultation is a school travel survey from the Highways department of Southwark Council. Capturing experiences of using Southwark primary care services during Covid 19 Covid-19 has caused changes to the way you access healthcare over the last few months and it will continue to have an impact. Doctors in Southwark are keen to know what your experience of using primary care services has been like over the last few months. What you tell us, will help us plan better for the future. Please complete this short survey www.surveymonkey.co.uk/r/Southwark-patient-exp-c19 to share your experiences. It closes on 8 September 2020. For more information and any questions, please email [email protected] School Travel Survey ? Travel after Covid-19 Southwark Highways department is asking all parents or carers of school-age children to respond to the new School Travel Survey. We want to know how your children get to school currently, and how that might change from September. We know there is going to be a lot of pressure on our roads and public transport network, and this will really help us judge the scale of the issue and determine what we might be able to do about it. The survey is online at www.southwark.gov.uk/schooltravel2020. Closing date: 6 September 2020
  3. Most people I know who are working from home have a work mobile phone, I have never heard of having to use your own phone. Were your employers going to pay your phone bills?
  4. My daughter who is a NHS worker states that on her ward when they had a covid patient (in a single room) they were advised not t0 spend more than 15 minutes in the room, to wash hands before and after going into room and wear mask and apron. As Penguin stated above - just walking past someone in the street is fairly risk free - less so if they are coughing and sneezing and neither of you are wearing masks .
  5. I feel that pubs should be like restaurants and have a booking system and a maximum stay time. Many restaurants if you book for say 7 pm they ask you to vacate your table by 9.15 to accommodate another sitting at 9.30 pm. Hubby wet to Plough last night and talking to bar staff was advised that they watch numbers carefully and deny people access if the place gets crowded, also with table service they only have a minimum of staff of each shift.
  6. When I was working in social services - if someone died and had no known next of kin/or next of kin with no access to finances, the local authority will take responsibility for funeral costs. Very basic coffin . I had one chap who died but his wife was sectioned under S2 in hospital and was not deemed capable to understanding the situation or to handle finances. There was a daughter (wife's daughter) who refused to get involved. We were aware this guy had some money ( a lot in cash and rest in bank) Agreement was that when someone was appointed by probate office to manage finances . LA would be reimbursed some/all of costs.
  7. According to In Health in the last few days - it is not known when the Chadwick Road clinic is open again
  8. It may be classed as a bonfire which are illegal in Southwark.
  9. I am afraid that I do not have a contact - assume that it must be environmental services.
  10. Yes we are a smoke free borough. I have a feeling that the residents in question may be new to the area - if someone can identify the location (Barry/ Plough Lane/Landells would be easier.
  11. I am with In Health as Kings outsourced it audiology services many years ago. You need a GP letter and In Health appear to provide audiology tests/batteries/ear moulds for 3 years only and you have to get a renewal latter from GP every 3 years. I tried to get an Audiology appoint just prior to Lockdown but all the clinics had closed down. I was then emailed saying that the clinic in Hornchurch Essex was open and an appointment had been made for the next day.I declined this due to distance. I emailed recently and was told that my normal clinic held in Chadwick Road was not yet opened and neither was the clinic in Streatham.
  12. Will the resident living around top end of Barry/Plough Lane/Landells Road - consider others who do not want their laundry smelling of smoke. High plumes of smoke last week for a couple of hours late afternoon (could be seen and smelt by drinkers in the Plough PH gardens)Also again yesterday around 4.30 pm but only for about an hour.
  13. A friend recently experienced Rye Lane - took a bus from Peckham to ED - almost an hour journey due to the number of cars in Consort Road and other side streets trying to to figure out the new system
  14. We also know an elderly person who until lockdown did not have a fridge or freezer. She moved into a HA flat from a private rental which had inadequate electrical sockets. She moved to the new flat with the fridge which later 'died'. despite offers of help to take her to shops to purchase new fridge. she declined as felt that since she was able to go out daily to do local shopping. It was only by chance during lockdown she commented to a sales assistant that she had neither fridge or freezer, and was immediately contacted by someone who was getting rid of a fridge freezer. This kind couple installed it in her new flat free of charge.
  15. Perhaps there should have been more checks that people using buses are using their oyster cards etc. On a short journey from Plough to Goose Green - I witnessed around 10 people of different ages just boarding the bus without presenting their card. Maximum passengers on buses (double decker's) is 30 so one third of passengers not paying. Multiply this by all the bus routes - still amounts to millions lost over a period of time.
  16. We have purchased face shields to wear as I rely most of the time on lip reading and find this difficult when husband (and others ) are wearing a mask. I have no problems wearing masks but find that I have to take off glasses and hearing aid to put them on. Hubby now wears a face shield and I can lip read him perfectly now.
  17. Try British Heart Foundation in Old Kent Road. As far as I can see, most charities are choc a block with donations and with the need to 'isolate' all donations for 72 hours before putting in shop, most places have very limited storage space.
  18. Heard today that Dulwich library is being refurbished and will not reopen until mid August. Peckham is not being used due to having lifts. Grove Vale Library's future is uncertain. If Grove Vale was open we could at least return books taken out in March and select from a limited choice so reading matter to last the next few weeks. Grove vale library was only opened in the last year or so - having been delayed for some time whilst building works were underway. If it is closed then people around the Albrighton Estate. Melbourne Grove and Grove Vale end of LL, will have to travel down to Camberwell or to Dulwich Library. I thought Southwark was keen to encourage reading and other activities in libraries for all children to participate in, but it seems not to care.
  19. Hubby is a charity shop volunteer and has been advised that maximum number of 'customers' in shop at any one time is 8. Donations taken in twice a week only and have to be stored for 72 hours before being put on display. This includes clothes, books and bric a brac.
  20. In reply to penguin68 I am the chair of the Dulwich Hill neighbourhood police team - we usually meet at Christ Church Barry Road but with lockdown etc and ban on meetings, we are not sure when we are able to meet again. Christ Church is anticipated to reopen in September.
  21. I agree and that it is also illegal to cycle on pavements.
  22. Have copied your post and sent it to the Dulwich Hill Neighbourhood Police team if you require their email address please pm me.
  23. Also recommend Tim at Sakura - he cut back a large elm in our garden and also a smaller tree (identity unknown) Observed all safety regulations - harnesses, hats etc. very efficient and reasonable price.
  24. See my post of 14th July. From James Cash previous post Libraries and Museums in England have been included for re-opening in July as part of the government?s phase 3 re-opening plans. The government have advised that libraries cannot open before this point. Re-opening plans for Southwark libraries are being informed by Southwark?s corporate Covid 19 guidelines and advice and guidance from the government's Libraries Taskforce. In current plans we are hoping to re-open six of our libraries in the week beginning 13th July using a phased approach in order to ensure a safe environment for staff and library users (Canada Water, Dulwich, Camberwell, Nunhead, Brandon, and Blue Anchor). It must be stressed that the plans depend upon the Covid 19 situation and government advice- if the infection rate increases or government advice changes then plans will need to be adapted in response to this. In the current plan the libraries will re-open on a limited basis offering an order and collect service where books are pre-ordered and collected in the entrance/foyer area. Books can be returned and there will be a 'grab and go' service of pre-selected stock. There will be no general public access to the library beyond this. If the Covd 19 situation continues to stablilise then during August the service will be extended to reinstate limited public access to libraries, with potential full opening currently scheduled for September/October. All of this will be subject to social distancing guidelines and any other measures that the government advise. No notice on gates of Dulwich Library as to possible date of opening
  25. Whilst I do not object to small children cycling on the pavement whilst the adult/parent is cycling along side them in the road, there seems to be a trend of both adults and children cycling on the pavement. Going to Sainsbury's Local the other day 2 adults with 2 children (around 8 and 10) cycling on pavements from Sainsbury's to Plough Pub and then blocking narrow stretch of pavement by traffic lights as waited for lights to change to cross over to Lloyds bank side. There was a couple with a child in a pram, myself and another elderly person who were effectively unable to get passed them until the lights changes.
