  1. not really. but i'll take your word for it. I'll never use it without sounding like a twat, but happy to stand corrected. And just to clarify, I never denied the existence of the word math. I was skeptical that math as a singular of the plural maths was real, mathematics being a noncountable noun it makes no sense to have a singular. You can't say one mathematic, two mathematics, so why would the short forms change the meaning? Are you making math = single calculation up?
  2. the side ads not entirely SFW. Well we've had quite a few 1s over the years. Both of the fringe sheeple variety and the more common or garden 'help help I'm being repressed' sort. I think I may have been 11 once or twice *hangs head in shame* And I've definitely been a bit 8 (is that like 8 bit?) *hangs head in shame again*
  3. "The 70,000 figure? That's personal items" Ha ha, no way!! I Thought that was obvious. and math (plural maths) is most decidedly a made up word. It's just a short form of mathematics. maths UK, math US mathematic is an adjective so if you ask me we have it right.
  4. aaaaaah, Phil Conners, Groundhog Day?
  5. I'm not sure I want much more from a sitcom than some take on the standard setup. I really just want it to make me laugh. In fact a part from a couple of irish specific jokes, it could easily have been the inbetweeners follow up in their late 20s. It did make me laugh though unlike most sitcoms.
  6. Anyone watching London Irish? Somewhere between Spaced, The Inbetweeners, a hugely disfuntional Friends and the inevitable Father Ted comparisons, I think it's better than it ought to be. Helped by great performances from Sinead Keenan (Being Human) and Peter Campion (almost unrecognisalbe from the nasty wife beating bad guy in Love & Hate). I have to admit I'm quite enjoying it
  7. Jeremy, I don't think you should make light considering the gravitas of the situation. Anyone would think it was just the opening of a local shop or something.
  8. The chap from Castaway.
  9. Well can you imagine how many books Jeff Mangum must have read!?!?! eta gawd bless t'interweb and allwho sail in her. http://www.atpfestival.com/events/jeffmangum/view/bookclubjeff.php says alot about his lack of output
  10. Agree with Crace's sentiments. Dickens is hit and miss as actual entertainment goes. Woolfe and H James make me lose the will to live by page 360 of having more tea/existential angst with insufferable nobs, and I have nor ever will bother tackling bronte, austen or Hardy, life is too damn short!!!!!
  11. I suppose if you're filthy rich and bring out an album every 10 years you probably DO have the time to actually read those books. I too will admit to viz, private eye and a smattering of others. But nothing looks especialy suspect. He likes music, a bit of history, a couple of stalwarts from usual top list suspects, and some obscure books. I think I'd have a hard time remembering a hundred books that I'v read let alone which ones may have had an impact enough for me to recommend. As per a meme on a different social media, I could only come up with 'The Hungry Caterpillar' and the Asterix books!!
  12. bah, would have been top this week if I'd remembered in time. Mind you I almost didn't remember at all, so swings and roundabouts.

    Breaking Bad

I have it allllllll to come. So can we have a 3 month ban on spoilers except in the spoiler thread pleeeeease. You could try The Americans for size in the mean time. I'm sure its not the same calibre but we enjoyed.
  15. "douchebags." Any smilarieties between this and any other situation are in the eye of the beholder and in no way implied http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/the-dawn-of-the-startup-douchebag-san-francisco-locals-disturbed-as-google-facebook-apple-and-ebay-professionals-move-in-8845193.html
  16. I though I had a shocker but seem to have climbed to 2nd somewhat incomprehensibly!
  17. Lets get a date in the diary. I've also mentioned it to Maxxi, and a couple of others, so lets do it. If we can just get snorks now.....
  18. Awwww, genuinely touched. Would most certainly love to meet up for a couple of beers. I think SJ is probably off first but we may yet pip him to the post, seems we're still in limbo over possible job and house (3 years in the making) is neeeeeeearly done! SJ is off to the Home Counties and I'm off to the Emerald Isle.
  19. I can hold my head up that I've never spent unhealthy amount of time on here, nor quit nor changed my identity in a weak bid to control my participation. .... Doh!!
  20. The run in has improved admittedly but a desperately awful karaokefest full of pretty little insipid clones beckons. Aeneid more crazy brazilians.
  21. He is a he in fairness. And you have definitely quit as well as been banned.
  22. Annoyingly I was going to go 1-1 in the spurs game but I missed kick off by 10 minutes. Grrrr.
