  2. that reminds me of smoked lager i had in germany. mmm mmmmmmm
  3. Billie Holliday's best work? God Bless the Child, Lover Man, Press Gang, The Rachel Papers, Band of Brothers? Bugsy Malone surely!!
  4. "and a deeply depressing one that people are too worried about their futures in the current financial climate to be creative." That seems rather back to front to me, traditionally times of hardship and difficulty were associated with explosions of creativity. For want of any research or deep thought into the matter i'd posit that it's hard to counter culture when the prevailing culture is one of liberalism and tolerance; one where your parents and teachers have probably done as much drugs as you ever will. One might even argue that grumbling about immigration and voting ukip is the real countercultural act of rebellion today ;)
  5. well we *did* look ridiculous when we were younger, the point being as long as it aided our chances of getting Greta Appleton into bed because she thought that ridiclous look was cool then it makes sense.
  6. I was very lukcy, I'd long prepared work for the idea that I was emigrating so they could get a replacement. In the end they asked if i'd like to carry on working for them from home in a contract capacity? errrmm let me think about that!!! It has been life saving in terms of making the transition easier.
  7. There's a good one just outside Bridgend!! http://www.mcarthurglen.com/uk/bridgend-designer-outlet/en/plan-your-visit/getting-here/
  8. I can't stop staring at this lead performance. It's weirdly brilliant in a sort of hi-speed car crash fashion. He channels a bit of everything from Jim Kerr via David Brent via Napoleon Dynamite, to Cookia Monster via Paul Shane (via Vic Reeves). And those sliiightly mistimed punches, sick genius!!
  9. So where were we? Not picking up an accent but a few bad habits. I had a uni mate swing by the house on Monday. He moved from Co Down (via london) to Farnham about 15 years ago and now sounds like Pam Ayres. Also saw ice bucket challenge of an old friend who'd married a guy from the deep south USA a few years back. Full on Scarlett O'Hara and talk of god. *shudders* Any of our illustrious alumni speaking weirdly?
  10. Genuinely don't and have never liked Stella, it tastes of.....matter... I guess if I'm on the gary lager for the night it has to be refreshing yet inoffensive. Heineken is about right. Whatever happened to Oranjeboom as the lager du jour, or should that be pils van de dag. Craftier lagers can be nice too.
  11. I looked, you're right, on all counts ;) Learn something new and all that.. Ironically the english gerund isn't formed with el gerundio but with el infinitivo "Corregir gram?tica..." Anyway, perhaps back to the matter in hand before everyone dies of boredom.
  12. A false friend perhaps; in spansih gerundio *is* the present particple, and I'm afraid that's where I learned grammar. Damned comprehensive educashun ;)
  13. "Not had a decent takeaway since we left!" definitely this!! I'm a very long way from haselmere. There's a weird topogrpahy of accents around here (deepest SE ireland), some of which I really like, and some of which are rather flat and almost a bit whiny frankly. Eldest Piblet has hung on to his london accent so far, with some admittedly jarring hybrid moments, but it won't last. I am thinking that I'm finding myself using the gerund too much.
  14. I know MM was being tongue in cheek, but just to clarify i was seconding the good stuff in Clare's post. The better quality of life, everyone says i look dramatically healthier, albeit as a result of no sicial life but hey. There are terrific positives to my new home. On the kids thing, London is great for young kids, but I think I may have become nervous as they grew older and became vulnerable to less savoury influences, like that MLE accent ;)
  15. wow, bonkers. I love the bit about trying to encourage 15 year old girls to stay on in education being followed by: 'domestic science is useful for a girl. It's useful right away when she marries, but it may be equally useful to a bachelor girl doing a job first.'
  16. west brom, man u. get in!!!!!!!
  17. blimey i must have had a good sunday, my satdurday was a shocker
  18. change 2/12 years for 7 months and it's word for word what ClareC *waves hello* said. Actually scratch the new friends, one or two nice parents via kids' schools is about it. I do miss ED though, especially Moxons and William Rose (the butchers here are friendly but terrible, and the fishmongers is lovely, very fresh produce, and stocks anything you want as long as its cod...or ling on a good day). Miss the variety of SE London really, the colours, the smells, the people, the food, our friends.
  19. should have had a smiley, sorry.
  20. has anyone *not* collaborated with Brian Eno?!?! Anyway, a magical collaboration!!

I'm with maxxi all the way, I don't cre we're having a purple patch, although i tend to agree it's a number of circumstances contributing to it. But too much bad blood, too much egotism and arrogancve from that man, oo dismissive of the desires of the fans, *that* cupping (ooeerrr missus). I'd take a fall down the table (hell its coming anyway) to be shot of that arsehole.
  22. well it's better than i recall, though it appeals to me more tha it would the old me. But neither is it necessarily something i'd put on again ;)
  23. I can't say as i know their whole output, I just remeber them coming on, whatever it was, the tube? and expecting something I'm not sure what, but not that 'oh my, boring aor' I am now spotifying them to see if i have done them a disservice.
  24. oh no, Utopia series 3 cancelled. Boo Channel 4...boo!!!!
