  1. I thought Baines and Johnson both improved coming forward, but at the rather obvious expense of their, you know, proper job.
  2. "but when it comes to a final ball or using their brain are found wanting" That summed up everyone though, so why favour one over another? pace and trickery are at least a start!
  3. 404
  4. Get Brooking out of retirment?
  5. when was the last time we had a decent playmaker? Scholes, Sherringham? If we count players who could produce for club AND country i guess that rules out the former. Anyone waiting in the ings to fill that role...bueller....?
  6. "People judge group games too harshly" errrr, except when you don't make it out the group!!
  7. That rather sums it up, defence was patchy and they had the class to cruelly expose it when they needed, and our final ball, shots were just lacking throughout. But it was progress, and I'd rather that than the depressing meek displays of the golden generation.
  8. With Suarez there Uruguay can challenge, without, unlikely. Italy are boring but excellent, definitely first string.
  9. "Why take Stirling off, he was quiet for a while but the Uruguay manager must have breathed a sigh of relief at that point." My reaction too, especially as Sturridge had done little but pass meekly to the keeper over and over (yeah a little unfair but his finishing was woeful).
  10. I obviously watched a different game. I thought we were by and large ok, just lacking any 'world class' players who can unlock a game. Rooney sure as hell isn't that as he missed a sitter and scored a tap-in. Seems ironic that we played better than in any of the last four or five tournaments but won't scrape through for a ritual humiliation like we did in those. The last of the golden generation was at fault for much of our shiutness, i've no idea why any would ever let Gerrard have honour of wearing the England shirt. Quids has it, we're a second string team without any special talents coming through. But we've some players who play well and are hungry. Better organisation, a little bit less ball watching and we can do ok, but without restructuring the doemstic game we'll never challenge again.
  11. "losing is the natural order of the univers"
  12. seriously, lets leave it behind, she's said her piece. I think it's insane, but it'ss her loss. Back to the cup in hand. So far only holland and germany have shown any real potential (I almost said spirit, but we've had that in spades form some of the minnows). But I guess group games are often about just getting through. It's been an interesting world cup for sure, but yet to really light up, be great if England could provide that.
  13. I apologise, wasn't trying to be negative, just resigned because I'm still all sad about last night. I don't get all the (rational) Spain haters though, there's alot of it on social media from light-hearted schadenfreude (perfectly acceptable) to some really pretty nasty stuff. I'm really proud of the last few years of this team, and I'd have thought they delighted us all with their football, but haters will hate I guess. TIme to shake it up a little bit as Del Bosque has said. As for tonight I'm nervous, I will of course be cheering and it will lift the spirits of the nation if they win. This nation is barely acknowledging there's a world cup on at all, "soccer? God no, GAA..." etc. sour....grapes ;)
  14. Indeed he was, pretty sure that's the team I had him in. I think my treasured spurs sticker was Steve Archibald on reflection. Aaaanyway, do i go from 2 teams to none in the space of two days?
  15. To be fair most of the commenters were disturbed by the calls for his execution and the irresponsiblity of cars mounting pavements than some bleeding heart push for hugging a hoodie!
  16. must have got the two teams confused, very easy up stevenage way....:-/
  17. Ah you're probably right Jah, I was just trying to cast my mind back to my early 80s panini album, all very fuzzy. AQ I think it's an utterly ludicrous position to hate Spaniards based on a single facet if their society, but that's your right. I started a long and boring post about the hypocrisy of this but lost the will to live, We'll just take each other off our Christmas card lists shall we.
  18. It's like a template going forward!! "Couldn't give a toss. Spurs have had their day. They were fabulous at their peak (about 100 years ago when Paul mariner played for them) but now way past their best. Hate to say I told you so. Congratulations to west ham, over and over again."

  20. at least i won something tonight
  21. Spain were all over the shop, lack of commitment and ideas, shadows of what they do well. GUtted, but going out the tournament, fair enough on that evidence. Luckily England will go all the way, or my newly adopted Ireland, one of them will win it for sure.
  22. erm, yeah, a bit disturbed by that comment too. But you know, donkeys, siestas, cunts!!!
  23. I'm with them on Avatar!! 6 was an absolute gem!!
  24. I'm not sure he knows that much detail yet but i'll keep ye posted.
