  1. there's a link further back to a playable version of chuckie egg, it has stood the test of time!!!
  2. aaah, paratrooper!! edited for failing memory, as opposed to parachute, which was always the fun bit
  3. if you're going to do it, use some humour at least
  4. kids, wife and 3 hour gaming sessions? not possible without thatcher like requirements for sleep. hence why most of my gaming is quick fix, touch screen based these days. Still manage the odd bit here and there and it gets easier the less your kids need you. Soon they'll be locking themselves in their room for days on end and i'll be free, free to do what i want, then I'm gonna get [chuckie egg] loaded [up], i'm gonna have a good time!!! Yes, I own slippers. Still, there's a beer fridge in teh entertainment room, though I may skip on the pills and trips these days.
  5. i lent mine and never saw her again :(
  6. atari 2600 -> zx81 -> bbc b -> atari lynx -> snes -> n64 -> playstation -> PC -> dreamcast -> gamecube -> PS2 -> xbox -> xbox 360 -> ipad -> phones -> PC I guess there's some concurrency going on there, and spent much time on mates' speccys and megadrives. Haven't plumped on my next gen yet, but no rush as only really beginning to get any mileage out of my entertainment room, and for the most part that's snatches of music and a good book so far (though i have reembarked on baldurs gate on ipad and Fallout 3). weirdly enjoying ninja revenge on phone as current toilet game.
  7. i dunno, i was a sucker for mortal kombat II. ...and that first soul caliber on my old dreamcast, gawd rest 'er soul.... *sorry HMB, i had a feeling this might be the seventh thread of hell for you*
  8. ooh, goldeneye, the exception to the above rule.
  9. Yeah, loved kick off, i think NHLPA '93 was the sport sim i spent most time on. The moment they became actual sims as opposed to top down arcade games, they became pointless, and agree, the same very much goes for footie, i find them tedious in the extreme. Speedball, now there's a game they should do in real life. or rollerball of course, loved that film. Thinking about it video games that became films are universally terrible, but that's a film that is really a live action video game!!
  10. ha, yes grabot & otta. apparently the head bouncing sound was made with a chopped cabbage. I've no idea why i still remember that salient fact.
  11. yeah, that last one sums my parents up nicely. Still we had elite, and....erm.....and frak? As for the atmosphere i guess two things, one we were young and our imaginations were wayyyyyy better as kids, and two, games these days do all that for you, they're so pretty and realistic it doesn't leave you anything to do, and they definitely lose something in that. Elite, or x-wing still fizz my bunghole more than Eve online or Wingcommander. Though Homeworld was pretty special, and actually a little bit excited about Elite Dangerous
  12. and talking of groundbreaking games, Zarch on the archimedes (by Elite's dave brabham). Obviously my mate was the son of a headteacher, i doubt normal people had an Archimedes. Can anyone remember a game, on the speccy i think, where you basically had to try and maintain world peace and react to events to try and limit nuclear races and eventually wars which acted out as little pixels pinging around the planet, usually getting through your star wars defences? My memory of it was that it was awesome, but can't remember a name for the life of me. of course the dangers of nostalgia. i remeber this strategy game being amazing, its kind of unplayable now http://www.80stopgames.com/site/node/1993
  13. http://joncom.be/experiments/thrust/
  14. Thrust on the beeb (though ported to speccy) was a particular standout, the first (?) of what we'd term physics games these days? Finely honed gameplay and skill needed rather than just memory, timing and persistence. Quite an achievement for the hardware.
  15. ooh, Pedro on dragon 32. held a certain resonance for me that one....
  16. Yeah, I never got into the 'community' thing. I didn't mind delving into quick bursts of COD WAW multiplayer, but quickly learnt never to don a headset after a team member proclaimed 'die like an effing jew' Okkaayyyyyyyy, byeeee
  17. Deus Ex!! though we're sort of into RPG territory here too i reckon, a la Elder Scrolls etc
  18. original, i do have them (game and console), and they work on a 360 which is nice (can't bloody save though, which believe me is necessary!!!) I loved the first COD, that beach scene was quite gut wrenching until you worked out it was quite easy. And they've had a few moments here and there, but there quickly came a point where rails shooters were ten a penny and all the same game with different bells and whistles. But have been bright moments in there. First Halo (despite some boring and overlong level design), clive barker's undying i remember fondly, marathon. In fact i highly recommend Outlast, an FP rather than FPS as you just have a video camera. No recourse to the shooty button and very scary things afoot is a brilliant combination for getting through underwear!!!
  19. ooh shinobi, good shout. Did you play any of the ninja gaiden games on xbox? could be punishingly hard at times, but basically just a (much) prettier 3d version of same game.
  20. http://terriblerealestateagentphotos.com/ oh.....my....... still if you're in black helicopter survivalist central, it'll probably add value
  21. really? you look down on people rather than just not like those sorts of games? I think that's the difference. Music can be about posturing, but in gaming you either enjoy the experience or not I'd have thunk.
  22. this thread has got me going, i have just managed to get a ps2 emulator up and running and mounted the ICO iso. Best, or atleast most beautiful, game of its generation by a country mile. Ripe for a reboot in the source engine? Configuring the controller to the keyboard is going to be a right bastard though!!!! It's funny there isn't game snobbery in the same way there's music snobbery is there.
  23. here's metacritic on it http://www.metacritic.com/game/ios/sorcery!. yeah, all of the above, but I'm sure you also built camps, kicked a ball, fumbled at bra clasps and bought cheap cider from the corner shop non?
  24. try "sorcery!" on android/ios. a really good attempt to meld the ff books idea into a gui. I guess my street cred is pretty low on here anyway so i have nothing to lose with this admission.
  25. I see reptomn is still as annoying as it used to be.
