  1. If I were you I'd call back whoever cut your wisteria, as they've obviously interfered with a wire! It seems like it's their fault that your signal has been affected, so they should fix it free of charge! In the meantime a portable aerial may work - although when we were waiting for our cable to be connected, our TV barely worked at all just using a portable. I guess it depends where you live and what the reception's like?
  2. Just did a quick google and it came up with W Coe on Forest Hill Road - I'm guessing that's the one you mean! Thanks :)
  3. Bit random, but does anyone know if there's someone in East Dulwich who could take a look at an amp (circa 1970s era), turntable and speakers and repair it? I can't even begin to think where I'd go!
  4. Whereabouts in Dunstan's Road is this? If you mean the dog that seems to make a constant high-pitched yapping noise at the Forest Hill Road End, then I've heard it too. I hope it's not in distress...
  5. I've walked through this wood a few times in the last year, and each time I have noticed some belongings and a sleeping bag under that bridge. Luckily I've never actually seen their owner! It seems like someone is bedding down there on a permanent basis though. I'd have been really scared in your situation - well done for calling the police! Hopefully they will move him on.
  6. I agree - that bit around the entrance of Peckham station is disgusting! It smells horrible and is almost always strewn with litter. However, did you know it is set to be redeveloped? I think work begins in December, although can't remember where I got that from!

With respect, do you actually work in Central London? There's no way you can even begin to compare commuting in by bus with catching the train from Peckham Rye Station. The former can often take over an hour; the latter, 15 minutes. If I took the bus to work every day rather than the train, that would add an extra 1.5 hours every single day to my commute - not a pleasant prospect to say the least. Also, the trains and buses are chronically overcrowded at peak times as it is. How exactly are the same number of people meant to get to work with half the amount of transport to take them there? Commuting is unpleasant and busy enough as it is with four trains an hour.
  9. I live one street away from Dunstan's Road and haven't heard anything - whereabouts on the road is the house in question? I hope for everybody's sake that the music has finally stopped!
  10. So wait - am I right in saying that as of December this year, the South London Line (Victoria to London Bridge) will be axed, and there will only be two trains an hour running from Peckham Rye to Victoria? That's awful!
  11. My god - how did it all go so wrong? :( http://www.francisfrith.com/peckham/photos/rye-lane-c1955_p289001/
  12. Does anyone know when a decision on this will be made? I would absolutely love an M&S on Lordship Lane - fingers crossed.
  13. How about the East Dulwich Hotel on Upland Road? Very seedy looking place! And nobody would ever find you in there.
  14. You can read the full story here, very sad: http://bit.ly/zSsDi7 The victim was a 93-year-old man called Ernest Maloney. I just hope someone got a look at the number plate.
  15. I noticed this has closed for refurbishment and think it's under new ownership. Does anybody know what it's going to be?

Oh dear, so there definitely were some gun shots fired then :(
  17. I agree with motorbird83. Plus if there were shots fired, surely the area would have been cordoned off with police tape? I walked past there the next morning and there was nothing.
  18. I would highly recommend Il Giardino on Blenheim Grove if you like Italian food. I've eaten there a few times with my partner and we both loved it! There's a review on the Londonist here: http://londonist.com/2010/01/dining_beyond_zone_1_il_giardino_7.php
  19. How about a Waitrose or an M&S on RYE Lane? Now that would be amazing!
  20. Hmm...does anyone happen to know where the collection point is in Peckham Rye park? Thanks!
  21. Nicholas, I am trying to persuade my boyfriend to have driving lessons, so good to know you're on St Aidan's Road! ;) And Mick Mac, thanks for the warning! :D
  22. Hi The Palmerston, Thanks for your message! From what everyone's said here the pub sounds great. I actually popped in recently and think it will definitely become my local if we do move to St Aidan's Road! I think it's a bonus to have a pub at the end of the street to be honest - I just wanted to check it wasn't open til 3am every night playing massively loud music that's all, hehe!
  23. Wow, thanks so much for your help everyone! :) East Dulwich seems so friendly! Family noise is no problem at all, to be honest - I just wanted to check it didn't regularly hold all-night raves or anything like that, hehe! And KattyKit, I might just take you up on that glass of wine! ;)
  24. Thanks for putting my mind at ease everyone! Ss18, that's a great idea about going to have a drink in the pub and seeing what it's like. A "family pub" sounds great though to be honest. EastdulwichNewbie, is St Aidan's Road a nice road to live on in general? Cheers!
  25. Hi everyone, Not sure if this is the right bit of the forum to post this in but here goes! I am looking for a place to rent in Dulwich and recently looked at a property on St Aidan's Road. I thought the house was lovely but am a little concerned about its close proximity to The Herne Tavern at the end of the street. To anyone who lives on St Aidan's Road (or knows the area well), would you say this is a noisy pub? I am moving to East Dulwich to enjoy the quiet life a bit more, so definitely don't want to end up living next to a really loud pub! Any advice you could give me would be great. Thanks very much!
