  1. Brilliant- can't wait ( well I can but...)
  2. Funny this. I read a small book some years ago called 'How to manage people in 30 minutes' or similar. My manager at the time was doing the exact opposite of the guidance in that book (the guidance was very sensible) and so I realised why work was so annoying. The ironic thing was that my manager was obviously unhappy implementing some of the crap coming from above so I carried on doing things my way and got away with it for 5 years. Anyway, the powers that be then created a new layer of management with it's attendant admin so we were being micro-managed. I resigned. When you get to a point in your professional life where you are not allowed to be creative and have to do absolutely everything someone else's way it gets very stressful.
  3. Children...! You must be joking.
  4. Yes- I went to a few WRP and SWP parties and all they do is stand around quoting Marx and Engels and talking about how they are going to lock up alcoholics and drug addicts (although they firmly believe(d) there wouldn't be any in their idea of Utopia) and set up a workers militia instead of the police- the frightening thing was that not a few of them were teachers!
  5. It doesn't really matter whether there are rules, bye-laws, laws etc. because the irresponsible dog owner will still exist and make peoples' lives a misery anyway.
  6. Apologies for reviving this but dog owners are getting lazy again or there are new owners being anti-socail. Spotted no less than 5 piles in CPRd near Sylvester and large pile in the middle of the pavement behind a skip so it was not illuminated in Goodrich that some unfortunate had stepped in last week.
  7. Came past on the night bus 2 am and stuff was in full swing!
  8. The dog exercise area is around the edge of the park and that is the only area where dogs are supposed to be off the leash- but given the number of owners who probably do not adequately train their dogs these things are going to happen and the dog will stray off the area
  9. Yes- where is all the money coming from for these re-modelling schemes? It is ridiculous in Lewisham as well.
  10. It was sold to facebook and is a text messaging app that enables people to message internationally on the cheapor free as far as I understand it
  11. I wonder what the council tax is in these other boroughs? Also if the council didn't take the stuff people would dump it like some people I have seen from their business premises because they have to pay for removal- and don't say I should have reported them because they saw me and know where I live and they are not particularly pleasant
  12. If they catch a bus or train into London, be prepared to pay through the nose for a season ticket and stand the entire journey- your parents, like my cousins, did the right thing by emigrating, we are creaking under the strain here now.
  13. If remedial surgery is being carried out and the medical staff recognise FGM on a victim, surely this comes under the safeguarding rules and the parents could be prosecuted for enabling child abuse? Paediatricians will now be very quick to recognise old bone breaks and bruising especially since Baby P and Victoria Climbie.
  14. There were some damaged on Crystal Palace Road on Saturday night or early Sunday morning. Saw one broken off and others pushed in near the Castle.
  15. Things can only get wo-orse....
  16. There are loads of things that can go wrong on the transport system- since Friends of the Earth publicised their findings that this country can only sustain 30 million people I for one have given up being surprised by any of this type of thing. People are more inclined to stick the knife in since the railways are privatised.
  17. If people conducted proper, up front, honest relationships there would be no need for all this hearts and flowers valentines commercial tripe.
  18. I hope this doesn't prompt EDFers to congregate around the Sylvester Road sorting office on Saturday morning......
  19. We went to Dorset every year when the kids were very young- started at Swanage (loads of sand) when they were small and as they grew and were able to manage the coast path, worked our way up the coast- (not much sand further west except a bit at Charmouth) Durdle Door, Lulworth Cove, Kimmeridge Bay- great walks.
  20. Agreed John Fahey- prompted me to find this
  21. The demands on the NHS are such that the tax payers' pockets would have to be a bottomless pit if all needs were met. I have experienced and witnessed some very annoying things there over the years- including being pestered at length by channel 4 staff when a relative was very seriously injured.
  22. I like Meshuggah- the drums on Bleed are phenomenal.
  23. The sociologist Charles Murray warned Britain in the '70s that we were breeding an underclass and part of this was fuelled by our generous welfare and benefits system. Since the 'underclass' is breeding at almost 3x the rate of the educated classes and has been for decades, then these problems were inevitable and, in fact, predicted by Murray. Unfortunately in their quest for votes, decades of politicians have lacked the will to grasp this nettle.
  24. Shame you had loads of parcels. You could've followed him home and then walked up and down his street from time to time. That was my m.o. when I was about 15. I used to get my brother or sister to come as well (on some pretext) so I could sort of hide behind them. No luck though- but the anticipation- better than any drug!
