Tbh you are going to struggle in those areas looking for a 2 bed on your budget, your choice may be limited. If you are hoping for an area on the up, look for good housing stock( even if much is not in good nick), decent and improving transport links, at least one pub/deli/shop that wouldnt look out of place in ed. Stratford is all very new build. The olympic park is amazing, and hackney wick has a vibrant arts scene, but housing stock not great. You will struggle on your budget in wanstead, plaistow more likely. Imo west ham has a long way to go. Really scruffy high street and you will be very dependent on the tube. Good luck!

I say ban people from the roads who cannot puncutate and who are totally unaware of grammar.

Have you tried to get watchdog involved? I reckon they would lap this story up, massive over charging and then sitting on your funds. Proper dodgy.
-
That's how I read it - corrupt individuals in the council, overpaying presumably in return for backhanders. Given the astronomical charges SOuthwark (and other councils) have been making for works, to me this appears to be corruption in plain sight - just very dificult to prove. Having a national newspaper on the case will hopefully have a bearing. Good luck all - I hope this makes your battles a little bit easier

Sorry PR - I was using my tablet app, which does not give you a web address. I reckoned people would figure it out - an lo and behold you have, and you are welcome.

Have you all seen the latest news in the independent? Looks like southwark council has been caught red handed giving back handers to contractors. If I was you I would contact the paper. They are running a campaign on the fleecing of leaseholders.

MMR and Autism- whats your opinion...
reeko replied to malwinka11's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Ask yourself would you vaccinate if there was an outbreak? If the answer is yes, then do it now and protect your kids and others.every unvaccinated child increases the risk of an outbreak, and during an outbreak every unvaccinated child is at risk. -
Daily mail fodder if ever there was. I wonder if they will do their fact check properly and figure out that it is the constitutional club and not the conservative club?

Nice walks - possibly along Green Chain
reeko replied to devsdev's topic in The Family Room Discussion
Yep look at the time out guide to walks around london. Plenty of options there, all accessible by train. To make things easy look at kent and sussex, they nearly all go from london bridge. If you don't buy the book this site is a good free option http://www.walkingclub.org.uk/book_3/walk_21/index.shtml -
... both from a recycling standpoint and ensuring any security info on it doesn't fall into the wrong hands. I managed to stand on my Toshiba laptop yesterday resulting in a cracked screen, it wasn't so bad that it was unusable but today while attempting a speed test using a Ethernet cable with a short reach I managed to pull it off the table ensuring that it is now properly knackered. It was fairly cheap and I'm not heartbroken that it's gone but I would like some advice regarding disposal. Cheers, M.

celebrity big brother - not happy with what I've just seen!
reeko replied to Louisa's topic in The Lounge
Easily solved. Stop watching this drivel and it will cease to be commissioned, simples. Watching Big Brother and then complaining it is distasteful is like ordering a vandaloo and complaining its too hot. -
I concur. Saw his latest venture on a mooch around portobello yesterday. It is a shop come cookery school come restaurant. It is called ... wait for it .. Recipease. I shit you not.

I am still clinging onto my 30s and I found the leaves really slippery too! I think if I had been a few ales down I could easily have come a cropper. The roads between peckham rye station and maxted road are all pretty treacherous.

Been there and I had to get very specific. Down to the level of detail of asking how long it took to make the lovely name plates, what value they added to the event versus being available to deal with weather induced travel chaos. Perfectionists are great, you just have to point them in the right direction.

former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
reeko replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
How about unlurked sets up a triage system for your mails James? He seems very keen that people go through the 'proper' channels. -
Yep - I don't think I would fall for it, but it is pretty fricking clever and I can understand why some people do get caught out by this one (as opposed to the Nigerian scams for example).

no Jeremy, the latest scam involves someone observing you using a cashpoint and following you home. Obtaining your home phone number (I guess from directory services) and calling pretending to be from your bank. They tell you to call the number on the back of your card and then they appear to hang up. You call the number, but as they have not hung up, you are still connected to the scammers. They then 'answer', confirm your address and that you took money out from X cashpoint the night before. They then send a courier around to pick up the card and go on a massive spending spree. Very very slick.

Erm lane lover, I don't think it is pugwash that is being difficult, I think it is the system. She did not wish to adopt her husband's name when they got married, yet the UK insisted that she use her married name on her passport, not her maiden name (god how I loathe that term). This is what has caused the confusion - not Pugwash. How about nobody changes their name, everyone just sticks with the one they were given at birth regardless of maritial status. That should minimise confusion. Also Jeremy, I think I get at least three calls a week pretending to be from my bank, there are some really sophisticated scams out there. Refusing to deal with them over the phone seems a reasonable precaution. Pugwash, although banks do have to be cautious, they must also be able to exercise common sense as well, which they clearly haven't in your case. I am not sure you are at the point of going to the ombudsman yet, but I do like Margaret Drabble in the Times - she might be able to get you some compensation for the inconvenience. As an aside I was in HSBC this week in Angel and there was a very irate lady at the customer service desk - I think she was also having trouble with ID (perhaps it was you!).

Crawthew Road closing for 18 months
reeko replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Yep James ain't telling no lies. Get the party wall stuff sorted, and up your insurance. This is currently unfolding in Hackney central http://hackneycitizen.co.uk/2013/11/23/hackney-central-residents-evacuated-homes-structural-threat/comment-page-3/ Lovely old building with two thriving businesses and 8 flats has to be demolished due to sudden structural failing. Road closed and general traffic chaos abounds. The exact cause has not yet been decided, but you will note that there is a massive hole in the ground right up to the foundations of the crumbling building - the groundwork for a Travelodge. The appearance of this gaping hole and the crumbling of a building that has stood for around 200 years may of course be coincidence. It will depend on which side can hire the most expensive surveyors -
What's going on with the phones at DMC??
reeko replied to jennyh's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
As we have a national health service that we all pay for, I absolutely think GPs should consider cost when referring people for testing, otherwise everyone with a stomach ache could demand an MRI and millions of pounds would go down the drain. If we had a system where the cost was borne by the patient or insurers, then by all means test away, but we have a national health service, where we need to spend money wisely. That means all clinicians needing to be aware of the financial implications of their decisions. Obviously cost should not be the primary concern when considering a referral, but it should absolutely be a consideration. -
I knew if we waited long enough your middle class pretensions would come through. Can't live in ed for as long as you have without getting a touch of the balsamics.
-
Who are you OP and what have you done with louisa? She has been very clear, spending any more than ?1.50 on a burger is middle class wankery, yet the white company has a single candle for sale at ?56, and that is a sale price, used to be ?70. Something is afoot I do believe.
