  1. I can't wait to hear Misha B's generic voice rocking that generic album !!!
  2. My dear old Grandmother taught me this sweet rhyme to help me remember the rules on this one. Does this look like it fits in my house? Do these look like the clothes that I wear? Give it some thought 'Cos these things that you've bought Are returning to sender.. next year
  3. My dear old Grandfather taught me this sweet rhyme to help me remember the rules on this one. After a bath, but before a poo You can forgo the y-fronts; just long johns will do But if you've laid cable but not washed your ass You'd best wear your pants, lest a streak comes to pass
  4. You're right - Little Mix will never match-up to the incredible singing talent that was THE SPICE GIRLS
  5. Believe me, Ted - I take no pleasure in seeing a show fail. Even the ones where someone else got the job. None whatsoever.
  6. .. and Lee Mack's All-Star Cast?
  7. His track record in commenting on tv (various columns / blogs / and the most excellent Newswipe) is somewhat at odds with the quality of Zeppotron's actual TV output proper. I expect he's beginning to discover that slagging off sh1t telly is considerably easier than making good telly.

    Board Games?

Some more suggestions were made here
  11. There was a bed in one of them a few weeks ago.. have they made their first sale? I know because I watched someone sitting on the end it, putting their trousers on - whilst I sat on the P13, picking my nose.
  12. Not suggesting there is any kind of racist intent, Otta - just giving some historical background!
  13. Back to the old slavery thing. The historical (and logical) interpretation of why there is 'white trash' but no 'black trash' is because a white person who was of distinctly lower class was particularly worthy of remark - whereas black people were not because (by nature of being black) they were already condemned as lower class. The phrase took on a slightly different slant depending on who used it: used by whites it basically meant (to use language of the time "no better than a n*****") whereas used by blacks it meant "look, there's someone even we can look down on". Thanks to Springer, Kyle etc the phrase has become widespread, popular, seemingly acceptable - apparently losing its racial element - but it's there all the same.
  14. So what we have here is one crackpot's Pavlovian response to the UK's premier twattish rag, followed by a swathe of pretty positive opinion in response. Why close the thread..? On the contrary, if I were 'the accused' I'd print it out and pin it up on the wall.

Nice conflation! I believe the strike is "justified" - but my 'pervading feeling' is that they ought to suck it up. One does not discount the other.

Don't most committed teachers just compulsively carry-on teaching well beyond the point they ought to have packed it in? - until they finally go mad? Most of the ones at our school did anyway.

I should say, I don't actually oppose the strike. I think people are entitled to have a crack at better something better for themselves if they feel it can be achieved - and within reason and as such, I think the strike is a reasonable action. If it succeeds I'm not going to be, like, all angry about it. I just think broad sympathy/support is low - for very understandable reasons. And the chances of success are minimal.

They will have have to though won't they? Sucking it up is going to be a major feature of life compared to how things used to be half a century ago. And my time will come - again and again, when I'll have to just suck it up. I have no job security, no pension, no guarantee of any income - and my income is subject to arbitary change. Indeed, it was decided that the source of where 2/3 of it came from would be - literally - halved - just a couple of years back. Bosh. Halved! But the fact was, there was a reason for halving it - and I sucked it up. It's not a case wanting everyone else to be standing barefoot in the same puddle of piss that I'm standing in, it's just that there's so much piss around it's just not fair that some people get given free wellies. Personally I think 'public sector' is a massively broad brush and it would be fairer to distinguish between different types of public sector work - and shift the system in favour of those in jobs which leave them a burned-out husk before they're 60.

The pervading feeling lies outside of the public sector - amongst the other 60 million residents.

Can't say I understand any of the facts/figures/stats - and even if I could it would be impossible to know who to believe. I suspect the same goes for the average chump in the street. However, I do believe that average chumps in street often have a good sense of right/wrong/fair/unfair/workable/unworkable - and whilst many (including me) are sympathetic, there is a pervading feeling that the public sector ought to face what everyone else has to face and suck it up.

    Ask Admin

Is it not possible to make this sort of request to Admin via PM? Ah yes - The only possible reason for not asking in private is so that 'the other party' can read it. Hey - other party - are you reading this?! Eh! Are you!? Take that! Seriously, the determination to play-out every facet of this debacle in public is truly alarming.
