  1. As in 'professional display'
  2. A poem must convey everything just by words. The magic, indefinable element of a song is the symbiosis of words and music. IMO a song is a song and poetry is poetry - and the most successful forms of each are not interchangeable simply by adding music or by taking it away.
  3. If you're looking for the wow-factor, the words you should be looking for, written on the side of the firework are 'for display only'. I'm assuming your friends have a 50m garden so that the crowd can retire to a safe distance. I quite like the verging-on-pathetic nature of the anti-climactic selection box. Those all-in-one display boxes look quite good but seem the ruin and ritual of the one-at-at-time-ooooh-is-that-all-it-does fun.

You're way ahead of the curve, KK. Future buyers on a second viewing will turn to each other and say: "I love the spiral staircase wine cellar and the dedicated home cinema - but darling, where are we going to locate the cess pit?".
  5. Personally, I think the outside toilet it going to make a comeback. Once all the loft conversions, side extensions and basements have been completed, the good denizens of East Dulwich will be looking for new ways to put their unique stamp to a property. In the fullness of time, there may well be a thread on here entitled: "Stairs over the outside toilet - is it really worth it".

  7. Just as plenty of bog standard 'curry houses' will also survive ... so long as there are people whose only experience of 'curry' is Chicken Tikka Masala, Jalfrezi and - of course - Chicken Madras. Everybody's happy. (ish)

Exactly.. when we've got eight Greek restaurants, all turning-out the same stuff following the 'identikit Greek food handbook' step by step - then a complaint might make more sense.
  9. Which came first, centuries of ongoing general fear and hostility towards the travelling community - or certain elements of that travelling community stopping caring about what condition they leave areas the areas they pass through in - and what other people think of them? Either way, a few piles of highly visible dumped shite in the local park are likely to do little for improving relations, busting stereotypes and will only serve to propagate the commonly-held opinion that ?that?s what they do?.

  11. never had one hoping it stays that way
  12. Mike "Hookem" who is UKIP's "Defence" spokesman said "we hugged like a pair of tarts". Wishing Steven a speedy recovery so he can return as soon as possible to the UKIP party business of utterly shambolic f@ckwittery, week in, week out.
  13. This particular - albeit small - section of the travelling community have done their bit to chip away at persistent and unfortunate stereotyping.. by flytipping a load of shit and buggering off.

  15. I had a distinctly average meal at the Crooked Well fairly recently, seeing as now seems like a good time to mention it. Shame as I'd taken some friends from overseas there, it was all very very ordinary, verging on 'not good'. When I went for a piss I could hear the Chef bollocking his crew about the culinary offerings they'd turned-out that evening, like it was all their fault. Perhaps it was a an off night, but it take a lot to return when there are so many other places to eat. LL is pretty decent these days with a reasonable spread of eateries for families who like food. There are solid performers and some very welcome new additions. I'd say it's improved a lot in terms of 'draw' over the last few years. Camberwell and Peckham have always had the food edge - but sometimes the Emperor has his new clothes on .. and the Insistence On Hip can start to get on your tits in some places. Peckham, Camberwell, ED.. we're lucky to have lots of choice, with new stuff opening up seemingly all the time. Huzzah!

The finer points of the fiscal machinations of Kanye West inc and understanding of 'debt' are - sadly - beyond the wit of Kanye West. But then he's not an accountant - and he never did know when to keep his mouth shut, so no surprises there really.

So I already have a longstanding affinity with the Caribbean. Hopefully 'Turtle Bay' will provide the same thrills.

She's SO right - we've all seen the crowds qoggling at the windows of Franco Manca or Meat Liquor to see who might be in there eating their cheap and cheerful sub-?10 plate of food. And I see the diners inside bristling back at the crowds of onlookers - with their look-at-me faces - and the food they don't even like left sitting uneaten on the plates. THIS IS EXACTLY WHAT HAPPENS MAKE NO MISTAKE ABOUT IT
  19. I can do an occasional Krispy Kreme for 95p or whatever it is, but that's my absolute doughnut red line.
  20. I thought he was talking about her walk, which is a bit odd.
  21. Hopefully that was for all five? Suspect not though..
  22. I've never been into a Subway. It's the colours they've chosen for their logo. Put me off right from the start. Dunno why.
  23. Despite walking past it almost every day, I have no idea what this shop is, what it wants to be, or why I would want to go in there. I'm not sure if they know either.
