  1. I'm thinking of getting a bigger 4x4 than my current one because of a minority of dickheads who drive normal cars in East Dulwich thinking there is enough room for our two vehicles to pass each at the same time, forcing me to slow down and sometimes even stop. I think a bigger 4x4 is now needed to get these people to realise they need to pullover and allow me to pass unhindered.

Lewisham is a good performing hospital that has had a considerable amount of money spent on modernising it recent years but it is now being clobbered because two other hospitals can't manage their budgets properly.
  3. Awareness of Tourettes has been around a while. I remember watching QED's "Johnnie's not mad" as a kid. The next day at school, everyone had it! Also, not so much a disease but binge drinking - this was just called "a big night out"!
  4. Otta Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > no one on this thread has moaned about kids. What? When you write stuff like: "these inconsiderate parents are so noticeable, that people tend to tar all parents with the same brush....I can't for the life of me understand why people take their kids to the pub. I can't relax in the pub when my kids are there.....When I see small babies left in prams for ages, even when they cry, I want to scream at parents "Pick him/her up for the love of God!" --- that's moaning in my book. Don't get me wrong. I'm with everyone else - parents should remove disruptive kids and they shouldn't be there after 7pm, but not only has the area changed in the last 10-12 years, but so has society, which means you see plenty of kids in pubs these days. If you don't like that, don't go to places that target families. Don't go to The Herne or The Actress, but go to House of Tippler or The Castle instead. Or go in the evening. Or if you go in the Actress, sit on the righthand side. Or here's an idea...accept that society has changed, that kids go in pubs and if you don't like that, socialise in each others homes ;-)
  5. Kids go into pubs - some of them are annoying, some of them aren't. Just like adults really. Why anyone lives somewhere like East Dulwich, a part of London that is known for the density of young families and the cafes/pubs/restaurants that cater for them, and then moans about kids is beyond me.
  6. Not had a delivery go missing, but a recently posted a LoveFilm disc back using a local postbox that didn't get there.

WOW...I've read some controversial things on this forum before...but you can't get into The Sopranos! Worst troll ever! ;-)
  8. Hmm, I did wonder about the Kindle Fire - is the Amazon App store any good?
  9. I'm looking at buying the Blackberry Playbook. I want a tablet that is smaller, lighter and cheaper than an ipad and as far as I can see, the main criticism of the Playbook is the lack of apps in Blackberry App World. But, reading some of the techie forums it sounds like you can get the Android Market on the Playbook if it is the OS 2.0. So, with my lack of tech speak, is the OS 2.0 the same as BlackBerry Tablet OS QNX (which is what I'm thinking of buying)? And if so, is it easy enough for a non techie like me to get this onto the Playbook? I'd be grateful for your thoughts/help!

Heber wouldn't have made it up! What they said would have been based on what they were told from the other school/police. What you are surmising seems to be based on an "anonymous" post on an Internet forum!
  11. Like e-dealer says, this has already been stated earlier, but as you appear to have missed it, the exact text word for word was: "This morning a man tried to abduct a yr 6 child on his way to a local school. If you dont want your child to go home on their own please contact the school." I used the word "attempted" in my second post (rather than the word "tried" which admittedly is what Heber used), but nevertheless it seems pretty clear to me.

There is no inference - "attempted abduction" is the exact wording used by Heber School on their communication to parents. With all due respect to WoolWitch, I'd rather heed the official communication from the school sent direct to parents than a post made on an Internet forum.

  14. Well, when I was in the playground this afternoon EVERY parent I spoke to thought it was very responsible of the school to send the text and are pleased with this sort of information distribution the school now has.
  15. "This morning, a man tried to abduct a yr 6 child on his way to a local school" - that was a message sent to parents from a school. Seems like a pretty clear warning rather than "unnecessary scaremongering" to me.
