  1. There is a good selection of books about feeding, including baby-led, in the library, quite new ones, but they are not altogether but in weird sections - some in cooking, some in health. The nice librarians might help!
  2. The first time I finished at 35 weeks and my daughter was a little late, so had almost 6 weeks off. Loved it and may never have that amount of leisure time again (sob). Was lucky as had lots of untaken annual leave to extend the mat leave with. It's excellent (though odd) that we accrue annual leave while on maternity leave! This time am planning to work a bit longer, all being well, as am doing a much easier job and find it easier to go to work than look after a toddler!
  3. Love the cuddledry-style towels, they are sweet and can be used for a long time. Some local places will deliver ready-made, home-cooked meals: fab idea. I think any gift vouchers are also good, as it can feel extravagent to spend money on stuff for new babies when already have most things. Congrats Bli - hope you are similarly receiving nice gifts from your friends and family!
  4. Like Trish, can't remember a lot at all! Emotional and hormonal rollercoaster. Congratulations and best wishes Fuschia!
  5. I agree, forget the sleep thing til later! Best wishes for your wedding.
  6. Rip off - ?45!!! Lots of the supermarkets etc. are starting to do similar looking flip flops for under a tenner (without the dodgy fitness claims).
  7. We found out and are having our second girl! Very exciting. Anyone who really doesn't want to know might need to be careful when watching the scan - ours took quite a while (40 mins or so) and there were several times when we clearly saw the relevant bits!
  8. ------------------------------------------------------- > I'd really prefer to leave the allocations team > dealing with parental queries and casework than > analysing the percentage that received 2nd, 3rd > and 4th preferences. Could I ask you to remind me > in four weeks time when I'd hope they'd be freer. James, yes, obviously parental enquiries are the top priority, but surely this should be easily available information?
  9. Don't think that comparing a nanny's salary to a junior doctor's is really relevant - totally different job markets!
  10. We recently paid a ?60 fine online and it was a good thing we printed out the receipt as proof (the email receipt never came through) because we got threatening letters saying that because we had not paid the fine we would be chased up by the courts etc. etc.
  11. Renata, any chance of the further information mentioned above (information about the proportion of people in ED and other areas of Southwark allocated their first, second or third choice)?
  12. James / Vikki, Further to the information that James has provided, it would be useful to see a similar breakdown by postcode but with the number of people in each area not allocated their first, second and third preference.
  13. It would help if, at the time of announcing the places, the Council published the kind of factual information about admissions that Lewisham does, e.g. the number of places allocated at each school on the basis of each admissions criteria, furthest distance for those admitted under the distance criterion etc. etc.
  14. When I have sips of Mr Smiler's beer I just want to down the can/pint! Alcohol-free Cobra is MINGING! Ta for the tips about the other fake booze that is available, hoping the Becks is better. M&S do 4-pack bottles of some kind of non-alcoholic soft drink made with hops - the citrus-flavoured one is tasty, and with a wedge of lime in the bottle can (almost) pretend it is Corona!
  15. Hee hee, glad am not the only one. Had serious citrus cravings with my daughter and have them again this time: oranges, (bags of) satsumas and lemon and limes, at one point was eating whole limes! My daughter loves oranges and satsumas. Late on with my daughter I also loved extra strong mints, eucalyptus and anything menthol: would deeply sniff Vosene shampoo. Condensed milk option sounds nicer.
  16. I like the ad and song too.
  17. Yes, they do save some for the file, they might be nice and let you have those ones.
  18. Info about the vaccine: http://www.patient.co.uk/doctor/BCG-Vaccination.htm My daughter had this done at 9 months (which was just when the appointment came through), no probs, had a little weeping scab for ages and now (aged 2) has a little round red scar, which presume will fade to white at some stage.
  19. Good news, is a total pain trecking to Croydon and don't like paying ?5 delivery fees for internet orders!
  20. hi snowboarder, I had this problem too, but can now sleep well again, there is hope!
  21. The woodcraft folk! Totally forgotten that, went in the 80s, there must be a branch in ED?
  22. My two year old struggles with sssss sounds, it sounds quite sweet. My friend who's a speech therapist says the main thing for smaller kids is that they can talk and be understood. Her little boy, who as you might expect has great language, is nearly 4 and has just packed in the dummy.
