What a contrast Salsaboy and DirtyBox! I would happily have either. Or both even. -

Its no longer 'this week' its last week, so I thought if I added 'with recipes' we might have a few more interesting additions...' -

Thanks KidKruger, looking forward to it! In answer to Dopamine1979's request..here's a delish, simple supper I enjoyed last night... Chicken with courgettes and limes. Serves 2 6-8oz skinned and boned chicken meat 12-14oz courgettes and 2 limes a little olive oil and soy sauce. Cut raw chicken into small strips. Toss it in 2tsp oil with a good shake of soy and a good grinding of black pepper. Cover and leave to marinate for 1hr-or all day if more convenient. Top and tail the courgettes and cut into matchsticks or grate thickly. Saute them in a non-stick pan barely filmed with oil. Remove and keep hot. Add chicken and flavourings and stir-fry until tender and just cooked. Quickly pour on the juice of the limes, return the courgettes to the pan, season well with s+p and toss to mix. Serve on hot plates. Nutty basmati rice goes well. -

North Cross Road Market (where's it gone?)
Jacqui5254 replied to Ron70's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Sue, my point was not that we are under any obligation to shop but that we shouldn't give the stallholders a kicking because they haven't turned out in full force over the last few weeks when the weather has been so bad, that's all. Maybe I should have given a bit of a "rant warning". Or maybe I should have just addressed my post to unlurked... -
North Cross Road Market (where's it gone?)
Jacqui5254 replied to Ron70's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hands up, all those people who tried to shop in Northcross Road Market on each Saturday, post-Christmas, when the wind was blowing the stalls over and the rain was coming down in sheets and most people didn't have any money?? Not just to buy your "one off" favourite pie, but to buy clothes, antiques, records, pottery? To linger and have a coffee, freshly made by the lady with the van, although it will take a few minutes, so if you don't mind getting completely soaked... Or did you just have a sulk because you had planned your dinner party around the cheese you were going to buy..just pop out, brave the rain... and goddammit, those selfish stallholders who had planned their stock, spent days baking, organised their clothes, brought in extra antique furniture stock, packed up their cars...hey, they decided it wasn't worth it, selfish people, because its only about profit and who the hell wants to go out in the rain to make a few dollars? Seriously, guys...are we that selfish and lacking in a bit of common sense? I know a few people for whom the Northcross Rd market is an important part of their livelihood, and god knows, since the beginning of the year, financially, trade in NXR market has been sh*t. To paraphrase Ron70..."Just been down North Cross Road, where did the customers go? :-( " See you Saturday. -
North Cross Road Market (where's it gone?)
Jacqui5254 replied to Ron70's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Was there last Saturday when the cake stall near the Palmerston blew over, scattering a third of her cakes all over the road. Then the stall collapsed. Guess there wasn't much profit left that day... -
Burglary Friern Road (Dec 11)

I don't know if it will help but do you have an outside security light with a movement sensor? I can't help but feel that if they were trying to break in under the glare of a light, they might think twice. Its only one small thing but everything helps... Really sorry to hear of your break in. Jacqui. -

Bogus Caller Sponsorship For 10 Mile Walk for GOSH
Jacqui5254 replied to FatherJack's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
There is no way that GOSH has a handle on the hundreds of fund raising events that are done in their name. For most people its the go-to charity when they think of children and hospitals. A friend of mine was upset when GOSH didn't send someone to formally 'receive' their cheque at the end of their fund-raising Golf Day. Their response..."we have hundreds of these events and we can't attend a fraction of them". Personally, I think it would be nice if some of the lesser-known children's units received some of the attention and funding also. -

Dropped keys down drain, help!

A twisted wire coat hanger once worked for me. That, and a crowd of nosey neighbours giving their opinion. Good luck! -
Rang 101 and reported my daubing this morning. [to add to the three times my car has been run into since I moved back to ED in January!] Anyone heard anything more? Horrible to see the car with DIE DIE on the windows at the end of Dunstans Road.

Stolen handbag in The Bishop Saturday 8th June
Jacqui5254 replied to stephanieod15's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Absolutely!! -
And it happened around 9.30pm when the flats around were occupied. There were no lights on at the front so maybe that made it more of a target. Police stressed importance of having front door frames reinforced with metal strips as well as good locks. Really sorry to hear that it happened to other people last night also.

Dancers on the Goose Green Roundabout
Jacqui5254 replied to citizenED's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
About 20 women, doing an organised dance routine, with a few cars driving slowly round the roundabout, with about half a dozen people watching from the pavements. Took a few minutes. Great cause, but probably a silly place to hold it as there is enough to concentrate on at Goose Green roundabout. Maybe a better audience/response elsewhere? -
Rucksack & wallet stolen at Sainsburys - take care
Jacqui5254 replied to lagoa's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
DJKillaQueen Wrote: ------------------------------------------------------- > And there's no need to assume it was that guy > either. I wasn't assuming it was this guy, I was saying we must be vigilant...whilst I was reaching into my car, loading my shopping, he was standing next to my trolley and would have had an opportunity to help himself. It only takes a second. I purposely didn't describe him as being homeless/alcoholic/off the streets, etc because its not about that. However, that stripey jumper, mask and bag over his shoulder with SWAG on it should have rung MY warning bells... -
Rucksack & wallet stolen at Sainsburys - take care
Jacqui5254 replied to lagoa's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
I was told by security last week that a bag had been taken from the end of the checkout counter whilst a lady was packing her bags. There was a guy hanging around in the carpark at around that time yesterday, asking if he could 'return your trolley'. I suppose in order to keep the ?1. Definitely need to be vigilant. -
parking ticket for forgeting to write registration on permit
Jacqui5254 replied to bushymusic's topic in The Lounge
Was it a daily/hourly ticket or a monthly one that could be passed to someone else to use? I have contested tickets like this before, not locally, and it was an hourly ticket. I impressed upon them that I had shown my intention to pay...and surely they should be spending their resources on those avoiding payment not tricking those who have. That seemed to do the trick. Good luck. -

East Dulwich Police Station/Waitrose
Jacqui5254 replied to Meg1001's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
If you want serene and peaceful, wide aisles, large windows you have to pay for it through high Waitrose prices. They have a price match with 1000 Tesco items. That means that the remaining 8760000 items cost MORE than Tesco. -
Could someone tell me what the point of this thread is?

Lunatic roaming East Dulwich road
Jacqui5254 replied to pkpickles's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
What is wrong with some people?? How hard is it to imagine the difficulties faced if you were hungry, homeless, tired, depressed, penniless, unwell, had nowhere to go, nowhere to SLEEP. Completely empty of basic resources fl0wer...what you wrote made me want to weep..."I saw a few weeks ago that someone was sleeping rough in that area, slumped against an apartment building's porch. More recently a very end-of-tether, thin lad was running round ED asking householders for casual work, saying the temporary homeless shelters were hell." DJKillaQueen you are right. Most of us are where we are by nothing more than an accident at birth. Get real, people and stop feeling entitled, start feeling grateful and share some of that luck you had...there is plenty to go round. -
I agree about simple skills exchange!! I am definitely NOT looking for therapy [as bodsier posted] or heavy duty work. Just some simple, friendly, one-to-one 'help each other out' type of stuff. I imagine there must be LOADS of it out there. And, as others have said..maybe keep it to EDF?..a simple exchange of simple skills? Can we have a section on EDF??? Can we??
