  1. That's good to know. I shall keep my eye (and ears) open and see if I can spot them.
  2. Very exciting to see a pair! I shall have to do more research on this bird. Don't know much about it.
  3. Ps re the blackcap. I now discover they're called the 'nightingales of the north' due to their beautiful song. I hope the one I saw this morning hangs around and sings.
  4. Just seen a male blackcap in the garden. I don't think I've ever seen one in the garden before ....maybe my lack of observational skills rather than rarity though. A brief google suggests there are more spending the winter months in the UK now.
  5. I like your 1970s dream/nightmare riff Sue! You weren't a designer on that latest Smiley film, were you? Not a single bright colour to be seen in the whole movie. Really captured the era. And, I have to confess, I still love all that 70s stuff in the right context.
  6. Perhaps one of those sepia-tinted, 1970s-themed nightmares.
  7. Sue Wrote: > Hope I haven't offended you - thought I'd better > say that in case the whole of your home has cork > floors :)) Only in my dreams Sue!
  8. ...you've probably got a point Sue.

And in my view much more 'natural' than all these 'engineered' wood floors - which simply look like pricey laminate to me.
  10. I think cork or brightly coloured rubber is good (wears well but needs treating annually). Otherwise paint the boards and mask with rugs as Sue suggests.

Thanks so much for posting this link nxjen! Comedy Gold. Can't remember the last time I've laughed so much.
  12. Didn't think we'd get snow today.... looking at the weather map it must to be the tail end of the weather hitting East Anglia.
  13. It's snowing! I hope the semi-hibernating frogs are well ensconced somewhere.
  14. None of that is in conflict with EU legislation is it?
  15. It's not really that simple though, is it? I see the government's error here as one of omission, not commission - but that's not reassuring. For me the central issue illustrated is that one couldn't trust these people to post a letter - let alone undertake the mammoth legislative task ahead of them.

  17. Beautiful bird song in the garden this morning. I'm not good enough at identifying song to know which birds responsible! But really heartening. My neighbour is a great reader and told me about the Thomas Hood 'November' poem some years ago - 'No fruits, no flowers, no leaves, no birds, November!'. Wish Thomas were alive today to experience this glorious morning!

The debasement of public life and political language has been shockingly rapid. Whatever happens over the next two years, we won't get that back in a hurry.

The paralysis that's overtaken political life since the referendum is to some extrent evident in the media too.

I'd suggest anyone pushing you to rate those 'identities' in order is insecure in their own sense of self. The Australian article is good. Can't say I see anything unexpected or strange in it though. Are you referring to Adonis, Clarke and Clegg's trip to Brussels?

When I take a step back from simply being very angry that he's contributing to ruining the country, DD intrigues me. Is he, I wonder, simply very dim (the whole 'thick as mince' theory)? Or has he so surrounded himself with 'yes men', that he really has no idea of how his pronouncements sound to the world at large? I guess taking the latter course is a sign of great foolishness in itself.

OOH LOOK, A SQUIRREL!" I'd agree with the squirrel theory.

  25. I'm so sorry Lynne. That sounds like a very difficult situation - and frustrating to say the least! But yes. In my experience even different hospitals/clinics in the same district have no sharing of information. I had some split treatment between Kings' and St Thomas' and soon found that they were unable to access each other's scan results. I now carry a file with relevant medical records to every appointment.
