There is a 38 degrees petition on unpaid work trials in support of the private members bill: https://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/london-snow-capitals-canals-freeze-over-as-boaters-share-stunning-images-of-icy-waterways-a3779106.html 'Stop exploitative unpaid trial shifts To All Members of Parliament Petition text Please make sure all workers are paid fairly for trial shifts by voting for the Unpaid Trial Work Periods (Prohibition) Bill. It'll make sure if people are offered a trial period they get paid for the work they do, whatever the outcome. Why is this important? This is exploitation. Ruthless businesses are telling people they have to work for free for up to 40 hours as a 'trial shift' before they can get a job. And people who are desperate for work are doing these shifts for no pay, with the hope of a job at the end. It?s shocking, but right now the law lets businesses get away with it. We all want to know that the hard-working people who serve us in cafes and restaurants are paid and treated well. Right now that isn't always the case, but together we can make sure that people are always paid for the work they do.'

But right now some GPs are being offered cash incentives to cut the number of patients they refer to hospital - including people who might have cancer. [1] This plan is dangerous - GP groups and medical experts have already raised the alarm. [2] But if we want to stop this scheme before it spreads across England, it will need thousands of us to tell Health Secretary Jeremy Hunt to put an end to it. Jeremy Hunt is probably hoping this all blows over quickly. A huge petition, signed by hundreds of thousands could make sure that doesn?t happen. We can show that NHS patients (like you and me!) won?t stand for targets and money getting in the way of the care we all need when we?re sick. If 100,000 people sign the petition in the next 48 hours, we?ll send it straight to Jeremy Hunt. So, will you sign the petition now? Our NHS is struggling because the government hasn?t given it the money it needs. [3] It means NHS bosses are looking for any opportunity to save money. But setting financial incentives and arbritarty targets for GPs simply doesn?t make sense. And when it comes to the care our families get when we?re sick, it?s not right to force doctors to compromise. [4] Now we?ve got a chance to stop these targets for GPs. But we need to act quickly, before they spread even further. If thousands of us add our names to the petition, we will deliver it straight to Jeremy Hunt by Friday. So if you want Jeremy Hunt to put patients first, sign the petition now. It only takes 30 seconds: https://speakout.38degrees.org.uk/campaigns/3553?utm_source=email&utm_medium=blast&utm_campaign=28_2_2018_gpreferals_50ktest&bucket=email-blast-28_2_2018_gpreferals_50ktest Thanks for all you do, Zo?, Cathy, Bex and the 38 Degrees team NOTES: [1] Health bosses across 11 areas of the UK have set up schemes which use targets or financial incentive schemes to reduce GP referrals to hospital or specialists. Fake ' Sponsored walk for Red Cross' - back in the area
IlonaM replied to J27's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
The British Red Cross do door to door fundraising (see advert below), but that is different to collecting for a sponsored walk. British Red Cross Door to Door Fundraiser https://www.charityjob.co.uk/jobs/british-red-cross/british-red-cross-door-to-door-fundraiser/556255?token=Pjm%2bhF660UA%3d&utm_source=jobalert&utm_medium=email&utm_content=regularjobfiltered&utm_campaign=daily&tsid=3 I have to say that I tend to say I will make any donation through the website. I have no intention of giving my bank details to a complete stranger on the doorstep (or the high street for that matter). When I lived in Soames Street we were always having various charities knocking on the door. Thankfully they don't seem to come down here. -
Glad I could be of help! Hopefully the mystery will be resolved soon and you'll get your bin back.

Try http://fivewayshire.co.uk/fiveways/fiveways_home.html Silver vehicles with red star - pictures of various trucks here: http://fivewayshire.co.uk/fiveways/fiveways_vehicles.html Look very similar to your mystery binmen. Hires out vehicles so police should be able to find out details of who hired it.

My neighbour is in the middle of moving and left a locked Luton van on Underhill Road at about the level of numbers 12 - 16 last night, Friday 23rd Feb. Sometime during the night or early hours it was stolen. It has been reported to the police who think it is probably going to end up abroad, but I thought I would post here just in case anyone saw anything or has CCTV overlooking that part of the road. I do not have the reg at this point, but it was a new Mercedes Luton van (only about 400 miles on the clock).

Would Veolia or the Mayor's Office/London Waste and Recycling Board (https://www.london.gov.uk/what-we-do/environment/waste-and-recycling/london-waste-and-recycling-board) be able to identify the logo?

I sympathise as I have had some very noisy and intractable neighbours over the years and it can be very stressful. Unfortunately a lot of the building stock, particularly conversions or terraces, can have very poor sound insulation and noise travels through walls, along floorboards etc. However, that said I am strongly of the belief that we all need to be considerate of each other and, knowing the problems of the lack of sound insulation, I have always tried to keep my noise down. I would hope that my neighbours show me similar consideration, but it doesn't always happen. How about keeping a noise diary for a week or two to record times, dates, frequency, loudness, what was on tv, and the effect it had on your enjoyment of your home/sleep/stress etc.? Once you have surveyed the problem you can approach your neighbours to work out a compromise or the noise team (but I would try the neighbours again first). There is a mediation team in Southwark which can deal with neighbour disputes as well which be something to consider. One thought, is their tv standing against your shared wall? If so, could they relocate it? Barking dogs left on their own is not an unsolvable problem. The neighbours would have to put a bit of time and effort into it, but the dog could be trained to deal with the neighbours going out [https://www.petfinder.com/dogs/dog-problems/dog-barks-left-alone/]. If no progress can be made with them, I have been known to research sound insulation for walls and ceilings as a potential remedy when it all gets too much! That might be an option if you are an owner-occupier.

The bad publicity has arrived at the Evening Standard (and Daily Mail apparently): https://www.standard.co.uk/news/london/row-as-trendy-east-dulwich-caf-asks-customer-to-leave-over-crying-baby-a3763571.html -

2 x 8 Underhill Rd with different postcodes
IlonaM replied to IlonaM's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Hi Penguin, Yes, on further research it appears that someone is using a shorthand rather than the full address which is resulting in confusion for deliveries, post and taxis. I have written a note on the parcel for the resident requesting they use the full address. I will try the sorting office as well. Really don't want to be losing my mail etc.! Hopefully it will sort itself out if the full address is used. -
former East Dulwich councillor - how can I help?
IlonaM replied to James Barber's topic in General ED Issues / Gossip
Dear James, I have just posted in the General section regarding two no 8 Underhill Rd with two postcodes - http://www.eastdulwichforum.co.uk/forum/read.php?5,1905185 I am rather concerned that, although 8 Underhill Rd SE22 0AH is a longstanding address at the low numbers end of Underhill, a second address has been created on Picketts Terrace SE22 0QR/9DX. Although the Post Office postcode finder quotes the full address as 8 Picketts Terrace, 242 Underhill Road, LONDON, SE22 9DX, I have received a parcel for 8 Underhill Rd SE22 0QR and it has caused some confusion with taxi drivers who have gone to the wrong address in the past. I was wondering whether this was something you would be able to look into please. With kind regards, Ilona
